well, my Denver pick looks kinda laughable, but otherwise I did alright other than injuries to Brees and Thomas, and now can someone please explain to me why everyone was so low on the Rams going into the season?

  2. My personal favorite offseason thread, let us know what names we should be watching for from your favorite team.  I'm going to stick with the standard end of season awards, but feel free to get creative and make some up if you want to highlight certain players that don't fit an established category.

Here are my picks for the Titans:
MVP: Derrick Henry, RB - sure, it's a QB driven league, but the Titans are building the team against conventional wisdom and everyone knows this team runs through the rushing attack.  If we're one of the top teams in the league (which will be necessary for anyone to be in the MVP running) it's gonna be on the back of #22.  After years of teams building faster defenses to keep up with the high-flying aerial attacks I think Henry can do enough to become only the fourth non-QB to win this award.  Others Considered: Ryan Tannehill, QB, AJ Brown, WR

Offensive POTY: AJ Brown, WR - okay, it's actually Henry, but I wanted to highlight another potential star on this offense.  AJ Brown exploded in the second half of his rookie season and made the 2017 #5 overall pick an afterthought in the offense.  He's got great hands and an ability to make plays after the catch that I haven't seen from any other wide receiver in Tennessee.  I don't think we're going to have enough volume in the passing game for him to put up the stats he'd need to actually win this, but he's going to win us a few games along the way. Others considered: Derrick Henry, RB, Ryan Tannehill, QB

Defensive POTY: Jeffery Simmons, DT - Dude was a monster in the second half of the season last year only 8 months removed from an ACL tear.  Nobody really expected much from him last season because of the injury, but in a limited role over 9 games he tallied 32 tackles and 2 sacks from the DT spot.  He's the only reason I'm okay with the fact that we shipped Jurrell Casey (who's one of my favorite Titans of all time) to Denver for a bag of balls.  I think we see him emerge as a game-changing talent and an anchor for this defense.  Others considered: Kevin Byard, FS, Harold Landry, OLB, Adoree' Jackson, CB

Offensive ROTY: Darrynton Evans, RB - not much choice here, our first round pick was a right tackle who might not start out of the gate and the only other offensive player we drafted was a sixth round QB.  Having said that, Evans is a guy who'll provide the change of pace Dion Lewis was supposed to provide but never really did and he adds a dimension in the passing game that we haven't had since Chris Johnson.  Others considered: None

Defensive ROTY: Kristian Fulton, CB - again, there wasn't much competition here, but Fulton slots in immediately as the third corner behind Adoree' Jackson and Malcolm Butler.  Others considered: Larrell Murchison, DT

Comeback POTY: Malcolm Butler, CB - the only players we had that I think would qualify were cut (Cameron Wake and Delanie Walker) so it's Butler almost by default, he broke his wrist mid-season last year and finished the year on IR.  He's a key piece of the defense, if he can get back to the level he played at the end of 2018 he could be in the conversation.  Others considered: Adam Humphries, WR

Pro-Bowlers: Henry, Brown, Simmons - already discussed

Brett Kern - he's been one of the best punters in the league for the last few years

Kevin Byard - he went to the Pro-Bowl in 2017, his second year in the league, and he's only gotten better since, it's time for him to get another trip

Jayon Brown - one of the top coverage linebackers in the league, it's about time he gets some recognition

Taylor Lewan - one of the league's best LTs

Rashaan Evans - emerging as a very good and versatile LB

  3. Well most of free agency is done and we're through the draft, feels like a good time to get this going.  As a reminder, the new CBA increased the roster size to 55.  Here's what I think the Titans will look like in September:

    Offense (25):

QB (2): Ryan Tannehill, Cole McDonald

RB (4): Derrick Henry, Darrynton Evans, Khari Blasingame, Senorise Perry

WR (6): AJ Brown, Corey Davis, Adam Humphries, Kalif Raymond, Cameron Batson, free agent to be acquired

TE (3): Jonnu Smith, Anthony Firkser, MyCole Pruitt

Oline (10): Taylor Lewan, Roger Saffold, Ben Jones, Nate Davis, Isaiah Wilson, Dennis Kelly, Ty Sambrailo, David Quessenberry, Jamil Douglas, Avery Gennesy

    Defense (27):

Dline (6): Jeffery Simmons, DaQuan Jones, Isaiah Mack, Matt Dickerson, Larrell Murchison, Jack Crawford

OLB (7): Harold Landry, Jadeveon Clowney, Vic Beasley, Kamalei Correa, D'Andre Walker, Derick Roberson, Reggie Gilbert

ILB (4): Rashaan Evans, Jayon Brown, David Long, Nick Dzubnar

CB (6): Adoree' Jackson, Malcolm Butler, Kristian Fulton, Johnathan Joseph, Josh Kalu, Tye Smith

Safety (4): Kevin Byard, Kenny Vaccaro, Amani Hooker, Dane Cruikshank

    Special Teams (3):

    Punter (1): Brett Kern

    Kicker (1): Greg Joseph

    Long Snapper (1): Beau Brinkley

I've got two spots where I think we'll be able to find someone better than who's currently on the roster.  One is at WR, where I wouldn't be comfortable starting the season only five deep but I don't see a sixth player worth keeping.  I don't know who that other receiver would be, and it's possible one of the other guys currently on the roster balls out in camp/preseason and takes it.  The second is including Clowney, who hasn't signed anywhere yet.  Tennessee really makes the most sense for him and the fact that we didn't address the position at all in the draft makes me think they're close to signing him, so I think he'll wind up here.  If we don't sign him I think we pick up a different free agent at the OLB position, we've got a lot of decent players there but nobody that opponents have to plan around, so I'd want a good stable to be able to keep everyone fresh.

So we just traded Jurrell Casey for a 7th rounder and I don't even know how to react, definitely don't like the move

I'm still waiting to see what we do with the cap space this move created, not sure I'm gonna like it if it's for Clowney

Titans should resign Tanny. Henry and Conklin. They just released Dion Lewis clearing up 4 mill in cap.  I'd release Delanie as well and clear up another 5 or 6 million. Those 2 cuts alone help us resign all 3 and still have money to sign free agents. Plus the draft.

They released Delanie and Succop today after releasing Lewis and Wake yesterday. Making all of these moves to open cap space has me optimistic that we're gonna see a lot of signing announcements this weekend. No reason to sit on cap space with a team that was in the conference championship game last season.

  7. I'm getting nervous about how close we're getting to free agency with no real news about any of our pending free agents. We're gonna be in a tough spot if any of Tannehill, Henry, Conklin, or Ryan leave. The odds of keeping all 4 were low to begin with, the fact that there's no news makes me wonder if we're going to lose multiple.

PI should just be a fifteen yard penalty.

But we'll never get it cuz "well then DBs would just tackle dudes every play lulz"

I think that's what thana's suggestion addresses. I'd thought about that too, but it's really similar to the old facemask rule they got rid of because of issues with distinguishing them. You could probably accomplish the same thing by with calling the reality bad ones unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that can be added to the PI call.

  9. If Smith is smart he's just milking the Redskins for free rehab and will retire as soon as he's recovered enough to go on with his life. I wouldn't risk destroying what at this point is a bionic leg, but definitely get the team to help with the recovery.

  10. Not much for the Titans:

Only absolute lock (as in could retire now and would be inducted in five years) is Cameron Wake, though admittedly that's not for anything he's done with the Titans

Only others that I think have a solid case right now are Jurrell Casey and Delanie Walker, but neither get the national attention they should so I'm not holding my breath

If punters mattered I think Brett Kern would be in the discussion, but that'll never happen

We have a very young team, and there are definitely some that I could see building a case, but I think the only other names that belong in a serious conversation are Kevin Byard and Taylor Lewan, anyone else I'd mention has less than three years in the league and that's way too soon to tell
