I think that's what I hate the most about this. The left frames the other side as a bunch of out of touch gun nuts, and the right screams the left is nothing but a communist party trying to take our guns.

It generally surprises people that most people are much more moderate about this. We want background checks, strict regulations on assault weapons, and red flag laws at least for law enforcement. People don't just fall into two categories.

This 10,000%.^ It's so simple, but the extremes are so blindsided that it gets ignored, and therefore the ideas are thrown out.

I also hate it when a ban is proposed; it is too much of a knee jerk reaction by people and never solves anything at all. That happened up here when Toronto recently had an increase in shootings. Thankfully the idea of one was tossed out and different solutions are being looked at.

  2. Management definitely also has a big part to play in this. Irsay needs to get tossed out on his ass for creating this mess by hiring Grigson in the first place.

It won't happen though, because people are fucking idiots and don't care...unless it involves $$$

Andrew, I wish you well. Enjoy your life.

I respectfully disagree. It failed in 1993 for two main reasons: 1) bye weeks scheduled too closely together, and 2) more byes mean fewer games, so fans were getting stuck with bad games on TV.

Problem #1 can be fixed by the schedule-makers, I have no doubt.

Problem #2 is eased by fixing problem #1, but it's mostly solved by the huge wild card that wasn't available in 1993: RedZone. I don't think fans would be stuck in the same situation.

Yeah, good points. The 18-week schedule could also be a huge benefit for teams that play the (still dumb) London games. Extra rest.

WIth CBA negotiations supposedly underway, it seems like the idea of an 18-game schedule is gaining steam. So, what say you, TGP?

Personally, I've had an idea in my head for a while that I think is a nice compromise that keeps everyone happy. It is: a 16-game, 18-week schedule where each team gets two bye weeks. Players win because the extra bye week gives added rest and should, in theory, help with injuries. Owners win because an extra weekend of football means more money (this is a win for players also). Fans win because it's an extra Sunday of football.

    Discuss!

I remember that the NFL tried that back in 1993 but the players found it too disrupting for their routines and the league reverted back to 17. I think the same thing would happen here.

The bottom line, bro... money. The league is trying to reach $25 billion in annual revenue within the next decade. Having an 18 game season would be a thing that would help towards that goal. The NFL doesn’t give a single fuck about “player safety”. Dollar sign over everything else.

This.^ It's why we have massive overexposure.

  5. First round predictions:

    East Conference:

Tampa Bay over Columbus in 5

    Boston over Toronto in 4

    Capitals over Hurricanes in 6

    Islanders over Penguins in 7

    West Conference:

    Dallas over Nashville in 6

St. Louis over Winnipeg in 6

    Colorado over Calgary in 7

Vegas over San Jose in 5

  6. Forget it. Raptors recently lost to Cleveland and Charlotte in the past few weeks. There's little cohesion, and too much sloppy play. They won't get out of the first round, and if they do it'll be by luck. They aren't playing like a #2 seed at all.

So Rivera has to be done at this point, right? 6-2 and looking like a possible contender. 5 straight losses later and now they will have to beat the Saints twice to even have a chance at the playoffs.

You'd think so after today. Feels like Rivera has something on the front office lol.

Hot take: They were never as good as they looked last year, like Philly.

Yeah. It's so obvious the Jags need the run game to hide the shitty passing. And when Fournette got himself tossed, that killed everything.
