    TGP Power Rankings Week 12

    1. (-) -The Packers will stay here until they actually lose a game, and maybe even then. Their best chance to lose a game is in week 12 and 13 against the Lions and Giants on the road. If they get past those two opponents with an unblemished record, then I don't think they drop one, unless they sit their starters. The Bucs certainly presented a challenge, but Tampa has always played Green Bay hard, and the Packers were still able to pull out a victory. 2. (-) -Another dominating defensive performance made up for a little first-half shakiness from the offense. San Fran is looking like a lock for the #2 seed and a first round bye with the way they are playing and the schedule they have left. 3. (-) -Houston doesn't move during a bye week. The news that Schaub is done for the year could potentially hurt them, but with the way they play they don't need a gunslinger at QB, just a competent game manager. If Leinart can do that, they have a good shot. Whether they can win in the playoffs with Leinart at the helm, however, is another matter entirely. 4. (-) -Good time for a bye for Pitt. They're going to have to go on a winning streak coming out of their bye week if they want to keep pace with the Ravens, considering that Baltimore has the tiebreak on Pittsburgh. 5. (+1) -Another team on a bye. The Saints will host the G-men in week 12, with the Giants coming off of a tough loss to Philly. Teams coming off bye weeks have been pretty bad this year, but considering it's in the Superdome, I expect the Saints to take care of business. The South is theirs to lose, that's for sure. 6. :Patriots: (+2) -A dominating performance Monday Night that would have been impressive if it wasn't against Kansas City. Good to know the Pats defense can completely shut down a QB that has no business being in the NFL in the first place, but the D is still a liability for this team. However, there are virtually no threats left on their schedule, and they should coast to a first-round bye. 7. (-) -Cutler's injury may very well doom their season. Two tough games against Oakland and Denver where the edge would have gone to Chicago had Cutler been playing are now up in the air. They're not done for, by any means, not with that defense and Matt Forte carrying the ball, but things just got a lot tougher for Chicago. 8. (+2) -It's too bad Baltimore can't figure out how to beat bad teams, or they'd be the clear-cut favorite for the #1 overall seed in the AFC. A good showing against division rival Cincy, although things got a little close for comfort there at the end. 9. (+2) -Detroit had better not let Green Bay get up 24-7 onto them, or I doubt they they come back from another 17-point deficit. Green Bay doesn't have Tony Romo or Carolina's defense to give the game back. The Lions must keep pace with the Packers and find a way to slow down Rodgers. 10. (+3) -Oakland is going to be a very dangerous football team down the stretch, once Darren McFadden gets back from his injury. Carson seems to be settling in, and the defense is playing solid. They need to be able to put teams like the Vikings away, however. Denver is hot on their tail. 11. (+1) -A FG victory over Washington in overtime really is not the way to impress people. However, a win is a win, and the Cowboys will take it. With the way the schedules look, and with New York dropping a game to Philly, Dallas is now the favorite to take the NFC East. 12. (-7) -The loss to the Eagles may have cost them the playoffs. They have a ridiculously tough schedule left, and that game was not one they could afford to lose. 13. (-4) -Another valiant effort at a comeback that fell just short. Dalton's attempt to lead his team back couldn't quite make up for his earlier mistakes this time. The outcome might have been different if AJ Green had played, Dalton definitely seemed to miss his favorite target. Still right in the thick of the playoff race. 14. (-) -Took care of business against the Titans on Sunday, but their defense looked a bit shaky at the end against Jake Locker. Hopefully that was just because they were playing soft with a big lead. 15. (+6) -The Broncos are playing great as a football team right when they need to. If any team challenges Oakland for the AFC West title, it will be Denver. Tebow may not be pretty, but he is bringing in the W's. 16. (+4) -A strong defensive showing against Eli Manning and the Giants allowed Vince Young to get a victory, despite his mediocre performance. They're still just two games back with six to play, but with the Patriots coming to town next, they have another tough test in front of them. 17. (-2) -Dropping two games in a row at this point in the season is not a good omen, especially when one of those losses came courtesy of Denver's college offense. The problems, however, lie more on the offensive side of things. The Jets need to be able to put up more points, plain and simple, and they don't seem to be capable of that without a good running game. Sanchez is not a QB that you can rely on to air it out, he needs a good ground game to back him up. Until the Jets are able to run the ball well again, they will keep being inconsistent. 18. (+4) -Seattle has won two straight to sit at 4-6. While unlikely that they are going anywhere this season, Pete Carroll appear to be putting something good together up in Seattle. They are playing as a team, and beating a division rival on the road is a pretty big accomplishment for a Seahawks team that is historically pretty bad on the road. 19. (-1) -A solid performance against Green Bay wasn't enough to get the win, but it did show the Bucs have not completely lost it. LeGarrete Blount's return makes this team a dangerous spoiler in the NFC playoff race. 20. (+8) -Miami's blowout win over Buffalo is a bit more impressive than the close win against the Skins. Things may be looking up for a Miami team that was 0-7 and has now won 3 straight. It's too bad they couldn't put things together earlier in the season. 21. (-5) -And CJ returns to his 2011 form, showing that week 11 against Carolina was a fluke. Jake Locker looked promising in his first real NFL action, nearly leading the team back to a victory. The Titans still have a shot in the AFC South, but they need to put some sort of running game together. 22. (-5) -Buffalo's season is derailing fast. Make that 3 blowout losses in a row. The Bills haven't even looked remotely competitive the last three games. What happened between the time when this team beat the New England Patriots and Sunday when they got blown out by Miami 35-8? The defense has been shaky all season long, allowing lots of yards, but the offense could compensate for their lack, and the defense was getting turnovers. A 4th straight loss would essentially end Buffalo's chances, and doom a once-promising season to yet another mediocre finish. 23. (-) -San Diego drops its 5th straight game to fall to 4-6 when it once sat at 4-1. Norv Turner is squarely over the fire now, and the Chargers are going to need a miracle to salvage this season. 24. (-5) -Arizona lays a stinker against the Niners. Their offense was shut down all game long and John Skelton looked like Jimmy Clausen out there. Arizona needs a QB, that much is for sure, though it's certainly not their only problem. 25. (+5) -Well the Browns got into the endzone. A excellent performance in the run-game and a questionable decision by Jacksonville leaves Cleveland sitting at 4-6. How on earth this team is 4-6, I don't know. But wins are wins. 26. (-1) -The defense is simply atrocious. 49 points given up, and this time none of them were from the special teams. This is made even worse by the fact that the 49 points were given up in 3 quarters. The Panthers have led at half-time in every single one of their games except one. They seem to not be able to play more than two quarters of football. 27. (-) -The Vikings didn't look completely lost against Oakland, but the offense took too long to get things started, and it turned out to be too late for Ponder to lead a comeback by the time it did start up. The loss of AP would hurt if the Vikes had any playoff shot, as it is, Toby Gerhart gets a chance to show what he can do. 28. (-4) -A loss to Cleveland? Really? Why on earth do you throw the ball from the 1-yard line with 3 seconds left when you have Maurice Jones-Drew in your backfield? 29. (-) -Got blown out by the Seahawks at home. The offense looked lackluster and the defense wasn't all that great, either. One has to wonder if Steve Spagnulo's job is in jeopardy if the Rams keep playing like this. 30. (-4) -If Palko is really the best answer Kansas City has at quarterback, this is going to be a long rest of the season for the Chiefs. If they can pick up Orton, they might still have a fighting chance to take the AFC West, but their schedule is still pretty brutal. 31. (-) -Six losses in a row. At least the Redskins put up a fight this time against a division rival. This is the same team that was 3-1 at one point and looking like actual contenders for once. Now they are back to their old selves. Good to know some things don't change in the NFL. 32. (-) -The Colts actually managed to find a way not to lose this week... oh wait, they were on a bye. Well, maybe they can get a few wins coming off a bye week, but somehow I doubt it. They only have two real chances for a win this season, and one of them comes to Indy this week. The motivation not to join the Lions and Bucs as the only teams to go winless might be enough to eke out a victory.

    Waiver Wire for Week 12

D-Will is about to bust one. He's going to be playing against the worst run D in the league in week 12, the Colts. I think both him and Stewart have big games fantasy wise. As far as Kevin Smith goes, I'd grab him, but I wouldn't start him if you have a good RB2 option. Remember, he was playing against Carolina. We suck against the run. We made Chris Johnson look like his 2008-09 self again and then look at what Atlanta did to him. I wouldn't be surprised if Smith is only a good option if he's going against a very bad run defense like the Panthers. And you did miss at least one: Nate Washington, WR, TEN. If Locker starts a few games over Hasselbeck, then Washington is a viable WR3 at the least, Locker seemed to have a rapport with him.

My idea for a Division 1-A playoff system

Thanks for the explanation, but an eight team playoff would still only take 3 weeks, and a sixteen team playoff would take four. The exact same amount of time for the March Madness tourney. So why can't football do this? (The main argument I always hear against it is that there isn't enough time.)

My idea for a Division 1-A playoff system

All right. I don't really know all that much about NCAA basketball vs NCAA football. So this may be a very dumb question. How come the NCAA Basketball can have a sixty-four team, (I think it's 64), tournament, and NCAA football doesn't even have time for an eight to sixteen team playoff? Is the season for basketball that much shorter or something? A sixteen-team playoff would only add one more week. 16 -> 8 -> 4 -> 2 -> 1 for a four-week playoff that would let us know who is the best in the country.

What? Is he seriously using this stupid argument? Yes, freedom of speech has limitations. This sounds like a troll on an internet forum saying his comments can't be moderated because of freedom of speech.

    Getting Paid = losing games

They certainly are playing like they are an AFC West team. Unfortunately for them, they're in the AFC East, and have the Patriots to deal with. Otherwise, they'd just be one game back.

    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Skyrim's NPCs are still dumb as shit. So I finally got into a fight with two dragons at the same time. I was handling it just fine, and had just slain the first one when I inexplicably stagger. Oh, there's a bandit behind me. Wait a minute, you just saw me kill a *dragon* and now you're going to attack me? I decapitate him with one swing and turn to the other dragon, forcing it down with a shout and killing it. As I get off its back, the bandit's partner runs up, nearly tripping over the dead body of her companion, looks at me standing there besides the corpses of *two* dead dragons, and proceeds to attack me with a warcry of "You're out of your league." Are you serious? I used Beast Form just for kicks, two guesses what happened to her. That, however, was not the end of it. I was, at the time, on a mission with a few Stormcloak soldiers, who pretty much just ran and hid when they saw the dragons. They proceed to come out from hiding, take a look at the carnage, and then one of them mouths off to me, "Pretty sure I killed more than you." -_-

Level 26 Nord using 2h+heavy armor. I spent a day just getting a ton of shouts and killing dragons and that really helped out combat-wise. Using the atronarch stone so I have some more magicka which lets me use stoneflesh, (about +60 to armor), magic resist, as well as 50% frost resist from the race bonus and 30% fire resist from items. With heavy armor, it means I'm very hard to kill, and the 2h means I still do quite a bit of damage. Also finished the main quest-line and the Companions main-quest line, (they still have a bunch of sidequests, I think they're just being generated).

Update: Chris Johnson back in tank as the Titans fall

He had 15 touches for 28 yards. That is less than 2yds/touch. Unless you're gonna say he can only bust one when he gets the ball handed to him by his QB, instead of taking a screen pass. CJ cannot break tackles.

    Tim Tebow thread: Chime In

Elway's mad because Tebow ruined their epic plan. ***** One month ago: Elway calls Fox into his office. Elway: Okay Fox, Orton's not our QB, we need to get another one. Fox: Right, we're looking good right now for a 2 or 3 win season and then maybe we can grab Andrew. Elway: Yeah, so lets put in Tebow just to shut up the fans that are calling for him, show how bad of a QB he is, and then we can draft Luck next year and get Tebow out of here. Fox: Right. But we need to make sure he doesn't have a chance in hell to succeed first, just in case. Elway: Hmm, you're right. I know! Let's trade Brandon Lloyd so he doesn't really have any WRs to throw to. Fox: Good idea, I'll go do that. Elway: Let Brandon know we'll get him back once we have an actual QB in there. After Tebow beats the Jets on National Television: Elway: FUUUUUU!!!!!

Update: Chris Johnson back in tank as the Titans fall

Guise, it's all on the offensive lines. They can't block for him so obviously he's only going to get 1 yard per carry because that's what all elite running backs do when their O-line doesn't block well.

I can't give my vote to a team that lost to the Seahawks and Jaguars, as well as nearly dropping a game to the Cards. It's either Pitt or NE. I'll give Pitt the slight edge for now. (And that is ONLY because Houston lost Schaub, otherwise, I think its Houston, hands down.)

What Game Are You Currently Playing?

If you've ever played any of the Elder Scrolls series, it's simply a much better version of Oblivion. I'm going to assume you have not. So here goes. It's nothing like Runescape and very little like WoW. Essentially, it starts as a standard RPG- choose your race, (which gives bonuses to certain skills, or a bonus to resist a type of damage, (frost, fire, poison, etc, as well as a race-specific skill- The Nord, for example, can use Battle Cry 1/day to cause everyone around him to flee for 30s), but then delivers the Elder Scrolls twist. You don't pick a class, you can literally level up any ability you wish. There's quite a few, from professions such as smithing and enchanting, to schools of magic, conjuring, healing, destruction, defense, to bows, to melee, to blocking, and stealth. The thing is, with TES series, you don't level up by gaining XP from killing the bad guys and completing quests. At least, not directly. You level up by leveling up your skills, which is simple- the more you use a skill, the more it levels up. So the more times you heal yourself or others, the more your restoration skill goes up, the more times you hit someone with a two-handed weapon, the more your 2H skill goes up, etc. Each time a skill gains a level, you get XP. Quests simply deliver gold, (generally quite a bit of it). Since the world is so open, (there is a pair of "main" quests, but you can ignore them for as long as you want), you can literally do whatever you want first. (Although I would advise staying out of the mountains till level 10 or so, the Giants are pretty nasty characters.) So in order to keep everything competitive and not have you out-level an area before you even decide to go to it, the world around you will also "level up", though not at the same pace as your own character, (at least not in Skyrim, I believe in Oblivion it was pretty much the same pace as your character). This is the primary feature of the difficulty slider, or so I have been told, as it determines what level the world around you is. There is a ton of quests and a ton of areas. I've found almost 200 different areas so far and I think I've explored about 2/3 of the map, so I'm guessing ~300 areas total. There are also several different factions. The three main ones are the Imperial Army, the Thalmor, and the Stormcloaks. (I am unsure if you can join the Thalmor, but they are a faction.) There are also a bunch of guilds/groups, such as the Companions, (a group of mercenaries), the Mages of Winterhold, the Thieves Guild in Riften, The Dark Brotherhood, (a group of assassins), etc. Each of these guilds has their own line of quests. Every time you level up you get a perk to spend in any of your skill trees, provided you have the appropriate level of the skill. So for example, I have 5/5 on the Barbarian perk, which gives me 100% extra damage when using 2h weapons, which need a corresponding 2h-skill level of 10/20/40/60/80 in order to level up. Perks can be passive, such as causing certain schools of magic to cost less to cast their spells, or they can be triggered, such as the 2h perk that gives you a 25% to decapitate an enemy when using a standing power attack, or they can be active, such as the 2h perk that gives you a special power attack when sprinting towards an enemy that does an automatic critical hit. Basically, it is a giant open-world sandbox that you can do whatever you want. You feel like slaughtering a whole town just because? Have at it. You want to rob a nobleman of every last item he owns? You want to destroy an entire Imperial regiment by calling down a lightning storm on their heads? Well, you'll have to go find out how to do that, first, but then have at it!
