    Buy or Sell

Buy. I would bet my house on that since Smith already said before the season and the Achilles injury that this would be his last season, and Manning looks basically done and I'd be surprised if he doesn't hang it up after this year B/S: Carson Palmer makes the Pro Bowl

Sell. They look like the clear best team in the NFC, even with their flaws on defense that have started to become very apparent B/S: Rams finish this season above .500

Sell just because it's almost impossible to have a single 16-0 season, much less 2 of them in a decade B/S: Matthew Stafford is not the starting quarterback for the Lions in the 2016 season

    Honest NFL Headlines

I love Sports Pickle. Their flow charts are genius
  9. The Lions were 9-7 in 2000 and only missed out on the playoffs because of a last second loss to the Bears on a 55 yard field goal. They were then 33-111 for the rest of the decade, including the 0-16 season in 2008. Their total for the 2000s is 42-118. They were the worst team of the 2000s decade The Jags were 8-8 in 2010 and missed out on the playoffs because of a 3 game losing streak to end the season. They have been 15-55 since then, bringing their total of the 2010s so far to 23-63. No other franchise has come close to matching the ineptitude of the Jaguars up to this point in time, and it's hard to see it getting better. They look like they will be the worst team of the decade by a pretty substantial margin

    YOUR NFCE LEADERS

I still have the Eagles as the favorite to win the NFC East. I still maintain they can be a 10 win team, especially since Peters' injury last night that looked like it had the potential to be awful wasnt anything more than a minor setback and he'll be back for them after the bye week. Look, Bradford is a really frustrating quarterback at times. But there are some plays where he's a very accurate quarterback, most notably when he gets adequate pass protection. Did anyone see the throw he made earlier this year at Washington to Miles Austin? That was one of the best throws I've seen this year Not to mention, the NFC East is absolute horse shit right now. I know Dallas is only 1.5 games out, but I'm going to effectively eliminate them from the division because I see them winning maybe 1 game before Romo gets back in Week 10. That will put them at 3-6. Do you know how many teams have made the playoffs after a 3-6 start? Three. That would be the 1995 Lions, the 1996 Jaguars, and the 2012 Redskins. One of those teams had one of the best offenses of all time, the other team had an up and coming contender in the AFC, and the last one had a huge fluke run by RG3 to a divisional title. Does anyone see ANY possibility of the Cowboys making the playoffs at 3-6? Because I sure as hell dont The Giants would be the team to beat if they had any consistency at all. They look substantially better than they have the last 2 seasons, but I dont trust their defense at all in key situations. The Redskins are a decade long 6-10 / 7-9 team encapsulated into a single season. I have no problem putting my cards all in on the Eagles at this point in time, especially given that they havent even played their best football yet

  12. Are they a championship contender? Do they beat out the current day Patriots to win the AFC East? Does Pennington complete over 75% of his passes? To answer my own question though I think they'd win 10-12 games and be anywhere between a 2-5 seed in the AFC. I also think Pennington would put up about 4000 yards, 30 TDs, and 10 INTs while completing 66% of his passes
  13. In both the cases of Eifert and Freeman, they caught the ball outside of the end zone and then lunged over and broke the plain. The play should have been over at that point in time. The problem is the rule has been written to make us interpret stupid shit that normally wouldnt apply When the Calvin Johnson catch initially happened 5 years ago, I remember a lot of the argument being "if CJ had caught the ball on the 1 yard line and then dove in he would have been fine and wouldnt need to control the ball all the way to the ground!" Well now theyve changed the rule to where that's no longer an option apparently. There is no specific way to tell what is a catch and what isnt. You basically have to go by the guess and check method The ruling over what constitutes a catch and what doesnt is about as consistent as the NFL's rulings on domestic violence
  14. No way. Youre telling me that moving the extra point back from the 2 yard line to the 15 yard line increases the chances of a missed attempt? What a concept, I did Nazi that coming

    Is the Patriots' Window Closed?

Barring an unforseen upgrade at a key position, I say yes. This was their last real shot to win it all IMO. They'll still probably win the AFC East next year but I don't see them as a true championship favorite, even if they do still have Brady and Belichick
  16. This more than anything. The Panthers defense has been so much worse than last year it's not even funny. But at the same time, Hardy should not be this valuable to a defense that was only ranked behind Seattle last season
  17. No, ignore that actually. I meant for you guys to look at the stats from both teams from that decade in a vacuum
  18. As a fan, this is honestly a very tough question to answer. Let's compare the 1990s between 2 polar opposites, the Bills and the Rams Bills (1990-99) - 103-57 total record - 8 winning seasons - 8 playoff appearances - 10-8 postseason record - 4 Conference Championship game appearances (and wins) - 4 Super Bowl appearances - But no titles Rams (1990-99) - 58-102 total record (45-99 excluding 1999 altogether) - 1 winning season - 1 playoff appearance - 3-0 postseason record - 1 Super Bowl title So basically, would you rather watch a team be flat out dreadful for an entire decade and then catch lightning in a bottle during 1 season and win it all, or would you rather see your team be extremely competitive, come so close time after time again, and fall short over and over? IMO, if the Rams situation guarantees a championship, you go with it and put yourself through those years of being horrible for the payoff at the end. But if it doesn't, there's no other reason to want to put yourself in that situation. But if a championship was guaranteed, it's hard not to endure all that misery in exchange for a title

    Update: HOF finalists named

I'll be honest, I'd rather see Ricky Watters get into the HOF before Davis. Yeah, Davis was better in his prime, but Watters was the definition of straight up consistency, and at a position that has notorious shelf life, he was still rushing for 1200 yards a year up until he was 32. He was a very good runner and often didn't get a ton of credit for being a great receiver out of the backfield And if you want to talk postseason achievements, why don't we talk about the guy who set a record with 5 touchdowns in a postseason game on 118 yards and 5 ypc against a pretty damn good Giants defense that was ranked 7th in fewest rushing defense and was tied for 5th in fewest rushing touchdowns allowed. And he was a stud in Super Bowl 29, he scored 3 touchdowns and would have been the MVP of the game if Steve Young hadn't overshadowed him It's a very close debate. I normally tend to lean towards players that were pure greatness for short periods of time over sustained longevity, and in another similar comparison (Rich Gannon vs Donovan McNabb as an example), I would have almost assuredly taken Gannon. However, at a position where players are out of the league as fast as they came into it, I value long term consistency a ton and will almost always take a guy who I can count on to be out there, as Watters was for all but 5 total games before his final season. He was underrated for a long time and has higher rushing totals than a lot of players that are already in the Hall of Fame, not to mention won a ring as well. I don't know why more people don't want him in the HOF

    Update: HOF finalists named

I'm really starting to dislike the fact that there are only 5 players that get in every season. They need to expand it to at least 7 or 8. There are too many players not making it because of this, and now Tim Brown probably won't get in get again, yet Andre Reed gets some sort of pass despite being on a better team throughout just about all of his career, having the better QB for most of his playing time, being far statistically inferior, and being on a team that lost 4 straight Super Bowls. It makes no sense how Reed is in yet Brown is not
  21. It's basically Denver vs everyone in the AFC, just like last season. But it's kind of a close race for who will be the 2nd best team in the AFC. Essentially, it's a 4 team race between New England, Baltimore, Indianapolis, and San Diego. All of those teams are 5-2 at the moment Right now, I'll take Baltimore as my pick for 2nd best team in the AFC. I'll be real here: I was 100% wrong about the Ravens this offseason. I ultimately predicted them at 7-9 after deliberating about dropping them further, but their defense was never the issue with me. I knew their defense would still be as legitimate as it's proven to be, but I felt that their offense would struggle to put points on the board. I did not count on Steve Smith's resurgence and Justin Forsett not only becoming serviceable, but also breaking out. They're looking like the 2nd best team in the AFC next to the Broncos, and while part of that is due to the AFC being weaker than last season, it also has to do with the fact that the Ravens are playing like one of the best teams in the league right now Only real issue is that they haven't played any true contenders, but I really like them to win this weekend at Cincinnati. They've got a tough stretch of schedule coming up soon (@Cincinnati, @Pittsburgh, @Saints, Chargers, @Dolphins in 5 of the next 6 weeks). We'll see if they can solidify themselves as a contender. I think 11-5 for this team is a very realistic possibility

    Best team in the NFC?

It's the Packers, and I don't think it's that close either because this is a QB driven league and Aaron Rodgers is just that much better. FYI, the Cardinals are one of the worst teams against the pass, ranked 29th in pass yards allowed per game. Their run defense is legitimately scary, but their secondary leaves a lot to be desired, although you'd think the exact opposite if you watched Deion Sanders and NFL Gameday crew rave about the Cards corners. I think that says more about how bad NFL Network has gotten though. Patrick Peterson is so overrated it's not funny. Even Cardinals fans are starting to realize that he's not arguably the best corner in the game. He gets burned a lot And this is with 6 performances coming against the QBs already listed? We've seen what happens when they face a team with a good QB. They get lit up. Are the Cards a good team? Absolutely. Will they win the division? It looks more than likely right now. Will they do much in the playoffs? Don't count on it

2nd Best Team in the AFC?

Do you remember how I said a few weeks ago that if the Chiefs kept up this level of play and beat Seattle, that we could have a conversation about whether they were the 2nd best team in the AFC? Well, here we are. Only difference is this time the Patriots are the top team instead of the Broncos The thing that puts the Chiefs into the conversation for me is how well the team has been playing without Jamaal Charles having a single 100 yard rushing game until yesterday. They've completely exceeded expectations. That front 7 can be scary at times, and while not mindblowing, Alex Smith is more than serviceable at QB I have them as arguably the 2nd best team in the AFC, behind New England. I feel like you can argue between the Chiefs and the Broncos as 2nd best team. I still give the Broncos the edge, but it's much much closer than it was at this point in time last year or even earlier this season So in a nutshell: 1. New England 2A. Denver 2B. Kansas City

    Austin Davis Benched

Don't understand this move at all for the Rams. It's not like there's any real playoff hopes there and Hill is 34 and not going to save this team. Davis hasn't looked terrible or anything, I see no reason to pull the plug on him. The pick 6 wasn't his fault, just another one of Kenny Britt's drops
