Washington Redskins 2015 7-Round Mock Draft

Thanks for the feedback. I use this site to get an idea of where a player is projected to go: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1865418/anthony-harris I'm no draft expert, so I certainly could be wrong. Some sites say his value is in rounds 2-3, while others say 3-4. Yes the Redskins drafted Murphy, but he isn't nearly the pass rusher that Fowler is. Fowler has a much higher ceiling and has been compared to guys like Justin Houston, Khalil Mack, and Terrell Suggs. A guy like that is too good to pass on and the Redskins have so many needs that they should draft the best player available. I agree though that the Raiders or Jaguars could select him earlier. There are so many talented pass rushers in this class with Leonard Williams, Randy Gregory, Shane Ray, and Vic Beasley so anything could happen. Fox Sports just came out with an article that said this pass rushing class could be the best in a decade: http://www.foxsports.com/south/story/10-pass-rushers-that-will-turn-this-draft-class-into-best-in-10-years-030215

The Redskins finally have a first round draft pick again. Who should they draft in the first round and beyond? http://profootballspot.com/_/nfl/nfc-east/washington-redskins/washington-redskins-2015-7-round-mock-draft-r7282

    Redskins Mount Rushmore

I was debating for a while between John Riggins and Art Monk. In the end I gave it to Monk because he was a part of all three Super Bowl winning teams and Monk never had a great quarterback throwing him the ball, whereas Riggins had one of the better offensive lines you will ever see blocking for him. I don't have any problem with people thinking Riggins should be on that mountain though. This was an incredibly hard list to narrow down because I had to leave several Hall of Famers off of the list. If I included coaches I would probably swap Monk for Gibbs. If I included coaches Gibbs would absolutely deserve to be on that list. He is in the Hall of Fame for a reason.

    Redskins Mount Rushmore

With 82 years of history and 20 Hall of Famers there are a lot of players who deserve to be on this list. Here are the four best players to ever play in the nation's capital. http://profootballspot.com/_/nfl/nfc-east/washington-redskins/pfs-rushmore-series-washington-redskins-r3418
  5. The Redskins have 23 free agents this offseason now that Ryan Clark decided to retire. With new general manager Scot McCloughan the Redskins are likely to experience a lot of roster turnover. Which unrestricted free agents should the Redskins re-sign? http://profootballspot.com/_/nfl/nfc-east/washington-redskins/which-free-agents-should-the-redskins-re-sign-r7122

    RGIII's mechanics have regressed?

His mechanics could improve, but they are certainly better than last year. A big part of the game against the Ravens was his hesitancy. He threw a lot of balls late that were designed 3 step drops where he is supposed to get the ball out of his hands really fast.
  7. The Washington Redskins beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-10 in a game in which all the Redskins starters sat out. Although the game doesn't count, a number of Redskins players made a great final impression. Which players guaranteed themselves a spot on the final 53 man roster? http://profootballspot.com/_/nfl/nfc-east/washington-redskins/who-impressed-in-redskins-win-over-buccaneers-r3907
  8. I'm the commissioner of an ESPN fantasy football league and I need 3 more players. Sorry for the late notice, but the draft is tomorrow night. 8 team league standard scoring. QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, Flex, TE, K, Def. is who starts every week. If your interested reply to this message and give me your first name and e-mail address.

If there is any corner that can compare to Sherman it is Patrick Peterson. He is more valuable to his team since he plays special teams and doesn't have as much talent around him. Sherman definitely benefits from having one of if not the best safety tandem in the NFL. Here is a quote from http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/is-patrick-peterson-a-better-cornerback-than-richard-sherman/ "Looking at their component stats, there’s no area where Peterson beats Sherman: Since 2012, Peterson has allowed a higher completion percentage (53 percent to Sherman’s 49 percent) and a much higher touchdown percentage (7 percent to Sherman’s 2.8 percent). Peterson also has a lower interception percentage (5.4 percent to Sherman’s 11 percent) and a much higher Adjusted Yards per Attempt figure (6.3 to Sherman’s 2.9). Even if you subscribe to the theory that a good cornerback’s primary value is in preventing passes from ever being attempted — which I do — opponents threw at Peterson once every 11.8 snaps, and at Sherman once every 13.7 snaps." The Cardinals have also been the 2nd best team in the NFL against the pass over the past two years, so Peterson has plenty of help as well. It's so hard to compare corners because they show there value often when qbs don't throw to them. There are a lot of arguments on both sides. Julio Jones and Deion Sanders think that Peterson is better. Maybe he is I'm not sure, but all the numbers are in Sherman's favor. The Cardinals defense isn't too shabby either. They are number one against the run and are the only team over the past few years to win a game in Seattle. A big part of winning that game was playing great defense. As far as Foster yes a system does matter, but it isn't the be all end all. Carr's numbers are inflated by the system he plays in for sure, but that's college where it's much easier to throw up crazy numbers. Just look at Colt Brennan and many others. The system certainly aids Foster, but you still need a good running back to put up those kind of numbers. Here is a guy that went undrafted and has had a great career so far. There are backs with better vision, backs who are bigger, and backs who are more elusive and have better cut back ability, but not many can do all of those things pretty well. He definitely isn't as good as Shady, AP, Charles and some of those guys, but he is pretty good. To play in the zone blocking scheme you still need a back with great vision and cut back ability. Some like Foster and Alfred Morris fit in great, while others don't. Morris is another player that people can say is just a scheme player, but he is pretty darn good as well. He is similar to Foster with great vision and cut back ability. He is 5th all time for most rushing yards in a players first 18 games. My point is that the scheme does help for sure, but you also need good players to fit the system.

By the numbers Andrew Luck is overrated, but you can't overlook his impact on that team. The season before he got there they won 2 games and each season he has been there they have made the playoffs. His team was trailing 38–10 a few minutes into the third quarter and they scored 35 second half points for the second biggest comeback victory in NFL postseason history. That's awfully impressive. He also lost his best receiver last year and didn't have the best receiving core, which was upgraded in the offseason. Jackson is a pretty good receiver, but he is definitely not in that top tier of receivers. He finished in the top 10 in receiving yards and had the 2nd most catches of 20 yards or more. Chip Kelly's system definitely helped, but he's a top 15-20 receiver in this league. And he will be our second best receiver behind Pierre Garcon, who is a much more complete receiver. Jackson is not the best blocker, but he is one of the best deep threats in the NFL. Gates isn't overrated for me because I don't see him as a great tight end anymore. Maybe some thing he is still great, but he has clearly lost a step. I guess it depends on your perspective on him. Sherman certainly benefits from Earl Thomas over the top, but you have to give him props. The defense he plays in certainly helps, but he is the best corner in the game. He's not nearly as athletic as Patrick Peterson, but he is the best in the NFL at playing man-to-man. He was rated #7 in NFL Network's top 100 players and the top defender in the NFL. He has 20 interceptions in 3 NFL seasons. He talks the talk, but he also walks the walk. I'm not a big fan of his, but he is not overrated. Just ask Eric Decker how good he is- you didn't even hear Decker's name during the Super Bowl. Yes Sherman wasn't on Denver's best receiver, but he lined up where he was told and shut down the man in front of him. So how does he do against elite receivers? In 2012 he lined up against Calvin Johnson and only surrendered 3 catches (tied for a season low for Johnson that year) and 46 receiving yards (2nd lowest of the season for Johnson that year). Wow that is impressive against Megatron. Foster isn't overrated for me. Throw out his first season where he didn't play much and last season because he was injured. From 2010-2012 he dominated. 2010- 1,616 yards and 16 touchdowns. 2011- 1,224 yards and 10 touchdowns, 2012- 1,424 and 15 touchdowns. He is also a good receiver out of the backfield. You can say he's a system guy, but offensive coordinators pick players that will cater to their system. I don't really care what system he plays in he produces. Now we'll see how he bounces back from his injury last season, but at 27 (almost 28) he should have a few more years of good production left in him.

I disagree about Matt Ryan. He was 4th in the NFL in completion percentage and yards last season. Yes he did throw too many interceptions last year, but he didn't have his best receiver last season, which sure doesn't help. He was also sacked 44 times (3rd most in NFL), which shows you how weak his offensive line was. I wouldn't throw him in that top tier with Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, etc., but I would him in the tier right below.

Redskins Training Camp Battles to Watch

There will be a number of positions up for grabs as the Redskins open up training camp in 12 days. With free agent additions and subtractions, draft picks, and the continued development of young players the training camp battles will be intense. Below are the training camp battles to watch when the Redskins open training camp in Richmond Virginia. 1) Third Down/Backup Running Back: Alfred Morris is the unquestioned starter after racking up 2,888 yards and 20 touchdowns in two years in Washington. He was the steal of the 2012 draft and came out of nowhere to seize the starting running back position in Washington, but who is behind him? Roy Helu is the favorite to be the backup running back because he did it last year and he excels at blocking and catching the ball out of the backfield. Evan Royster, Chris Thompson and Lache Seastrunk should all be in the mix as well. Of that group Seastrunk should give Helu the biggest run for his money. He’s reminds me of Darren Sproles and brings a similar type of electrifying ability. He must improve his pass blocking and prove that he can catch the ball out of the backfield. He rarely caught the ball at Baylor so he will have to prove in training camp that he can be a reliable option in the passing came for Robert Griffin III. Prediction: Roy Helu’s experience as a third down back gives him the edge as Lache Seastrunk and others gain more experience. Seastrunk should contribute down the road, but has a lot to learn. 2) Right Guard: Chris Chester and third-round draft pick Spencer Long will be fighting to see who will be the starting right guard in 2014. Chester had a solid 2012, but took a big step back last season. He will have to improve or Long will take his job. Long is the long-term solution, but will have to learn what it takes to be an NFL offensive lineman. The Redskins also have Josh LeRibeus who played well against the Seahawks in the 2012 playoffs after Kory Lichtensteiger went down with an injury. LeRibeus came to training camp last year out of shape and basically lost a year with the Redskins. He is in better shape this year, but his performance last year left the Redskins with a sour taste in the their mouth. Prediction: Chris Chester holds onto the job because of his experience, but expect Long to start in 2015 at the latest. If Long wins this battle then Chester could easily be cut which would save the Redskins $3 million. 3) Right Tackle: Tyler Polumbus is one of the most criticized players on the Redskins roster. Despite what people say he doesn’t suck and was ranked as the 15th best right tackle by Bleacher Report. That is not great, but it is also not terrible. He isn’t the strongest offensive lineman, but at 6’8” he has the length to help him in pass protection. The Redskins saw a borderline first round talent drop into the third round when they selected Morgan Moses. Moses has already admitted that he won’t be able to get away with the same things that he got away with in college. In college he was bigger and stronger than everyone so he could bully defensive lineman, but he won’t get away with that this season when he will have to face defensive lineman just as big and strong as him. Moses has a lot to learn including improving his technique and learning to stay lower which can be hard for a 6’6” man. Former sixth-round pick Tom Compton will also be thrown in the mix, but will more than likely be fighting for one of the backup jobs. Prediction: Tyler Polumbus keeps his job because he is more experienced and prepared to play this season than Morgan Moses. With more experience and overall improvement in his game Moses should start for the Redskins down the road and possibly as early as 2015. 4) Wide Receiver Depth: DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon and Andre Roberts are the clear top receivers on the Redskins depth chart. Behind them is a cluster of players including Leonard Hankerson (who is recovering from a torn ACL), Santana Moss, Ryan Grant (2014 fifth-round draft pick), and Aldrick Robinson. You can also throw in Nick Williams, Cody Hoffman, and Lee Doss, but they are more long shots to make the roster. Moss should make the roster because he can help mentor the young receivers and should have another few years of production in him. Grant isn’t the fastest player and isn’t a great athlete, but he has some of the best hands of anyone coming out of the 2014 draft and should develop into a solid short to medium passing option for RG3. Hankerson has had a disappointing start to his Redskins career with two of his three seasons being cut short by injury. Aldrick Robinson must prove that he is more than a deep threat. Prediction: The Redskins keep Moss, Robinson, Grant, and Hoffman. Hoffman is a long shot, but he plays special teams and at 6’4” is the tallest receiver on the roster. Hankerson starts the season on the PUP list. 5) Backup Outside Linebacker: Brian Orakpo and Ryan Kerrigan will be the starters against the Texans baring injury. Both are former first-round picks and both have the potential to be stars in this league. Behind them are Rob Jackson, Brandon Jenkins and rookie second-round pick Trent Murphy. Jackson filled in for Orakpo in 2012 and did a solid job. He is pretty good in coverage and made the key interception against the Cowboys in 2012 when he dropped back in coverage fooling Tony Romo and made the interception to seal the NFC East title for the Redskins. Jenkins is more of a project for the Redskins and saw no playing time as a rookie last season. Murphy is similar to Kerrigan in his relentlessness to chase the ball carrier or quarterback. Murphy will give you everything he has on every play and should develop into a solid player. Prediction: Trent Murphy will step in should Orakpo or Kerrigan suffer an injury in 2014 or if either needs a breather. His motor, relentless attitude, and desire to improve will win him the job. Murphy will be moved all around the Redskins front seven especially in obvious passing situations. He has the good fortune of playing behind Orakpo and Kerrigan and learning from them. 6) Inside Linebacker- Perry Riley will be one of the Redskins starters in the 3-4, but they will be searching for another starter. Keenan Robinson, Darryl Sharpton and Akeem Jordan will all be fighting for the starting job. Riley has been groomed by the retired and potential future Hall of Famer London Fletcher to take over as the leader of the Redskins defense. Riley’s experience as a starter should take some pressure off whoever wins the other starting spot. Prediction: Keenan Robinson who is coming off back-to-back torn pectoral muscle injuries will win the starting job. There are definitely questions as to whether he can stay healthy, but he has already been lining up with the starters in OTAs and mini camp. He is one of the Redskins best linebackers in coverage and should develop into a solid starter if he can stay healthy. 7) Third Cornerback: DeAngelo Hall and David Amerson are the starters, but there is a big opening behind them. The Redskins picked up Tracy Porter in free agency who will always be known for picking off Peyton Manning in the Super Bowl to help the Saints seal a Super Bowl XLIV victory. The Redskins also have E.J. Biggers, Richard Crawford, Chase Minnifield, and Bashaud Breeland. There is no clear favorite among this group so the battle should be intense. Prediction: Richard Crawford would likely win the job if he was 100 percent healthy, but it will be hard for him to win the job coming off a torn ACL. Tracy Porter wins the job because of his experience, but don’t be surprised if rookie fourth-round draft pick Bashaud Breeland takes over before too long. Breeland could have been a potential first-round draft pick had he stayed in school another season, but he came out to support his 11-month-old daughter. 8) Special Teams: The Redskins had a terrible 2013 season, but this was their weakest unit last season. Usually special teams don’t lose you games, but this unit was so putrid last season that they were the sole reason for several losses. Kai Forbath and Zach Hocker will battle it out to see who is the Redskins kicker. Forbath has experience on his side, but Hocker has a stronger leg, which would help the Redskins on kickoffs (which Forbath struggled with in 2013). Robert Malone and Blake Clingan will battle it out to be the Redskins punter. Chris Thompson, Cody Hoffman, Richard Crawford, Andre Roberts, and Lache Seastrunk should all be battling it out for both returning positions. Prediction- Kai Forbath has the weaker leg, but is the better and more experienced kicker and wins the starting job. Robert Malone wins the starting punting job. Andre Roberts who was upset and not being a starting wide receiver will be the starting punt returner. Lache Seastrunk will be the starting kickoff return man. Since there are technically two kickoff return men Chris Thompson will get the other slot (if he makes the roster).

    NFC East Fan Roll Call

I love Green he was awesome and one of the best corners of all time. Oh man I will never forget going to school knowing that the Redskins lost. I went to bed when they were down 13-0 with 4 minutes to go. The next day I find out at school that they came back on MNF in 2005 to beat the Cowboys. I can't believe that I went to bed before the big comeback. One of my favorite moments was beating Dallas in 2012 on Thanksgiving. Seeing them score 28 points in the 2nd quarter was pure ecstasy. It was also amazing that it was Tony Romo's first loss on Thanksgiving. Beating them later that year to win the division was pretty cool too.

    Best Receiving Corps 2014

I said the Redskins because their team could easily be mistaken for a track team. Yes I am biased and a Redskins fan, so take that into consideration. Jackson is one of the best deep threats in the league. Garcon is deadly just like his fangs mouthpiece implies. He runs like you lit his butt on fire on every play and is one of the best blocking wide receivers in the league. He also lead the league in receptions last year and somehow didn't make the Pro Bowl. With the addition of Jackson, Roberts gets demoted to the slot receiver, but he should excel there. Jordan Reed is one of the best young tight ends in the league and was starting to come into his own before he got injured. Pick him up in fantasy!! The Redskins also have a ton of depth in case any of the above get injured—Aldrick Robinson, Ryan Grant, Santana Moss, Leonard Hankerson. All the names I just mentioned have issues, but they are the 4th receiver or lower, which shows you how much depth the Redskins have at that position. The Colts have too many questions and players coming off injuries. Bears, Broncos, and 49ers are all up there with the Redskins. In the end the Broncos receivers will be the best because they have one of the best qbs in NFL history throwing them the ball.

Rank these young QB's & next year predictions

My Current Rankings: 1. Luck- a reincarnation of Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. This guy will give Aaron Rodgers a run for his money in a few years for the best qb in the league. Yeah he's that good. 2. Wilson- doesn't have to do as much as other quarterbacks, but he's clutch and is getting better and better each season. It's tough to know how good he would be without a great defense and running game. Still he is very productive with no name wide receivers. 3. RG3- a terrible 2013, but I think he will bounce back and have a great 2014. He has a new head coach who will take advantage of all the weapons they have. RG3's wide receivers could be mistaken for a track team. 4. Foles- He had a great season, but I want to see him play a whole season as the starter. Losing DeSean Jackson hurts because they loose a huge deep threat. That will put more attention on Shady and put more pressure on the entire offense. He should have a good season though because Chip Kelly knows what he's doing. 5. Kaepernick- He's one of the toughest qbs in the league to bring down and he has a great start to his career making the Super Bowl in his first season as a starter and the NFC Championship game last year. He will never be an elite qb, but does enough to make the 49ers a serious Super Bowl contender and the Seahawks biggest challenger in the NFC. 6. Cam- I only rank him this low because who is he going to throw the ball to besides Greg Olsen? Who do they have at wide receiver? I can't name anyone without looking it up. He'll do ok this season, but will suffer from a lack of talent on the outside. 7. Tannehill- throws too many interceptions, but should get better with time. He's still the best quarterback the Dolphins have had since Dan Marino. 8. Dalton- he should perform better especially with one of the best wide receivers in the league. He doesn't show up in the postseason and just isn't as talented as other qbs on this list. I still think he could be the Bengals franchise quarterback for years to come assuming he plays better in the postseason in the future.
