Julius Peppers hangs 'em up

Julius Peppers announced his retirement after 17 seasons.
Peppers, 39, was selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2002 draft and won Defensive Rookie of the Year honors after recording 12 sacks in just 12 games. Peppers spent the first eight years of his career with the Panthers before striking a mammoth free-agent deal with the Bears and spending four years there before a three-year stint with the Packers. Peppers returned to Carolina in 2017 with 11 sacks as a 37-year-old. Peppers' 159.5 career sacks rank fourth all time behind Bruce Smith, Reggie White, and Kevin Greene. He also picked off 11 passes. Peppers was a nine-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro and missed only six games in his career. He made just as big of an impact off the field. Peppers is a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Easy 1st ballot HoFer. Peppers was a beast from day 1 in Carolina and was always a professional. Too bad he was never able to win a ring, damn you Bostick...

Peppers was a beast, hopefully the hall gets it right and puts him in fast.

I always loved Peppers because he played both basketball and football at UNC. That shows pretty much how good of an athlete he was.

It's pretty amazing how long he was able to be a good player. He was still really good in Green Bay and still pretty decent even these last few years in Carolina.

Julius Peppers man. Sad to see him go, he still had an ok year at the end, but I think he was just at the end of his rope there. It's too bad we couldn't get him a ring, he was an amazing talent and will be missed greatly. Just a great all around dude with Carolina, GB, and Chicago, and one of the best defensive players to play the game. Should be a first ballot, might even beat Steve Smith in as the first Panther Hall of Famer, since WR is so stacked.

He was like... 37 and our best pass rusher.

Not much prettier in the NFL than watching a Julius Peppers strip sack. Truly glorious. Can't wait to see him enshrined in Canton.
