It's a shame because the initial scene before the opening when the Gov stabbed Milton was promising. I was like, "Nice, shit's going down tonight."

I thought the opening scene was one of the show's best. Ever. The Governor's ploy to Milton, making her kill Andrea--one way or the other, and a fantastic line of dialogue (that I'm not quoting perfectly):

-"What would your daughter think if she could see you now?"

-"She'd be scared of me. But she'd be alive if I'd been like this from the beginning."

^That was a good scene. I liked too how he was punching someone but it didn't show who it was at first. I thought it was Andrea, but it was Milton who he was pummeling. Andrea deserved to die though. Like hurry up and get the pliers or whatever they were and get free, AND THEN converse with Milton, you dumb bitch. He's about to turn at any moment, how about a sense of urgency?

Can't wait to see what happens with Rick's group now. looks like they added about 20 people to the prison, mostly of the elderly variety. I thought they were running low on food and water, so I'm assuming they just took all the food from Woodbury, or something.

I have no fucking idea why they would take in what is basically Tyreese and an old folk's home and children.

Keep the group small.

Because the show has poor writers. A baby that never cries, a bunch of characters who were poorly developed, a lot of the killings seem like they were just put in there to have someone die.

I don't think Herschel really embellished that much Mav... He (Herschel) also had a gun pointed at the kid from cover. What was the boy going to do? Hit the gun out of Carl's hand, then get shot in the face by Herschel ?

If Carl was out alone, maybe you can justify his actions. But, the way it went down? He shot a young guy down at point blank rage in cold blood.

Not saying it was because of that scene, but I really don't know if there is anything the writers could do to redeem Carl, in my mind. I really hate his character. And I cringe as they shift the focus to him. I didn't like poor little innocent Carl, and I despise hardened douchebag Carl. It's probably just his name.. Who the heck names their son Carl these days.

He's turning into what Rick was with the whole Ricktatorship stuff and I hated that whole thing. Not gonna change with some punk kid. lol

Ya.. Most definitely just his name.

lolz you expect old man Captain Hook to quickly pull that trigger in the instant the kid leaps at Carl when he's like a foot away? Okaaaaaaay.

I'll concede Carl didn't have to murder him. A simple shot in the leg would have done the job. But it was too risky not to take a shot at him. Why didn't the kid just drop the gun where he stood and backed away? I think the director purposely had him slowly approach Carl not dropping the gun just to put this very thought in the mind of the audience.

I agree with you about the name too. Don't care for the name Carl at all. :nope:

Herschel isn't THAT OLD. If the kid moves to do anything, he would be dead. Maybe Carl's gun gets flown out of the way, but the time it takes to work that shotgun he had? Ya, Herschel would have gunned him down first.

Oh, and on the opening scene stuff. I am slightly biased because I liked Milton and thought he could be valuable to the group. I didn't liked the writing that built up to that moment, either. They showed Milton rebelling some, yes. But the Governor figured him out like 2 episodes ago and they walked away from each other without anything more than the Governor snarling. Then jump forward two episodes, and Milton has gone missing from the town which nobody seems to have noticed and he is being held captive and being beaten by the Gov.

While it was pretty sick to set it up so Milton killed Andrea, I think the awesomeness was lessened a little because the Governor had just left zombie Merle for Daryl to find. Being that he already had that in his history, and just one episode before, it wasn't as awesome as it should have been. And wasn't as shocking or revealing as it should have been either.

And the dialogue was solid, better than most of the episode (except the Andrea death scene), however, I expected it do be better. Milton knew the Governor in the real world. He was the last connection the Governor had to his life before. I expected a pretty deep and emotionally charged scene between the two. Didn't really get it, which is a shame. Milton's death was pretty frivolous, IMO, as they wrote it.

So, even though it was one of the better scenes of the finale... Still pretty disappointed with it.

Vin's notes (a day later):

Andrea's death is gonna affect people (characters on the show).

Writer's didn't really want to kill off Andrea, but did it anyway.

Nobody is safe.

"Merle's death was really about activating Daryl in an interesting way that will pay off in season four."

"season four is going to be extremely different than season three in some very startling and cool ways."

"Rick is changing. This is the moment where Rick takes a turn; he's no longer going to be pushing people away, he's no longer going to be doing what ever he can to protect these people in ways that hurt other people. He's not going to be the guy who would leave that guy on the side of the road -- the backpack guy in Episode 12. He's letting the people of Woodbury in and tying to tell Carl that these people are like us, you have to be open to this and the only way to survive in this world is to have people and be in a community. That's going to be a big part of season four."

They mishandled Andrea.

Prison is easier to defend than Woodbury.

The Governor was always intended to survive past the first season.

"There's always going to be new locations and new places to discover and explore. I don't want to reveal too much; Season 4 is still five months away. But I will say that as we see at the end of Season 3 we're definitely going to start Season 4 at the prison. We may be there the whole season and we may not be… But there are going to be some big differences from Season 3."

Zombies will be deadlier (or characters won't be as superhero-ish) GAH: I think that our band of survivors might have become a little too complacent about the threat that the walkers pose. They're a very serious threat. I think the complacency towards walkers has probably run its course."

Mazzara's leaving wasn't a firing, but a contract that wasn't renewed.

Robert Kirkman can pick up almost anything with his feet.

We should be "very worried" about Carl.

"As far as what [The Governor's] role is exactly in Season 4, that will have to remain shrouded in mystery for the time being. But I will say it's going to be very different. We have The Governor, we have Rick, we have the prison. These are elements from Season 3, but everything is going to be radically changed and radically different in some very cool ways. I wouldn't expect the same conflict or the same stories coming into Season 4. Things are going to be evolving quite a bit between seasons."

"We advanced things in the third season to where humans were a more present threat than the zombies, and that may continue into Season 4."

"One of the things that we've been striving to do for Season 4, that Scott [Gimple, new showrunner] has really been pushing and that he's going to take charge of, is really just making sure that.... every character has big moments — to really amp up the character development. I think we have the action and fast-paced story line stuff locked and we did that really well in Season 3. But getting to know the characters more and teasing a little bit more emotion into the stories is what we're striving to do in Season 4."

We hear that lame thing everytime "Next season is going to be so much different". In reality that means next season is going to be terrible too.

Given they're actually going to try and stay consistent with their "show runner" and writer, it may be different.

And this season wasn't terrible. It just didn't live up to the hype the first two seasons gave it. It was still a very good show, just wasn't the greatest.

HA! Please. There were a good four episodes of dog shit while the writers decided what to do.

Also..

They just changed the show writer AGAIN for season 4. Glen Mazzara was the lead guy with Gimple as a producer and writer.

JUst because they are going to "try" to stay with the same runner doesn't mean they will. Once again, a new season of Walking Dead is going to be very different from the others. And if the people in charge don't like the direction, they won't be afraid to get somebody else in there. We won't know if they are committed to consistency until after S4 ends. To hype it up now is just ridiculous.

Perhaps. At the very least, he's written some fairly memorable moments: the death of Otis, the Sophia reveal, the Shane/Rick fight in S2, "Clear, death of Merle/Andrea etc.

Also, not sure if anyone cares, but Robert Kirkman and Michael Rooker are going to be on The Nerdist this Saturday (10 PM eastern, BBC America) Note: If you don't like Talking Dead, you probably won't like this either since it's hosted by the same guy.

I liked a lot of those moments. I kinda knew Sophia was in the barn, but the episode it was revealed in, was very well done.

I watched the first season and just kinda forgot about the show while waiting for s2 to come around and it took me until about 1 month ago to realize my error and catch myself up on s2 and s3.

I'm so glad Lori and Andrea are dead. Lori for being a manipulative bitch and Andrea because I couldnt stand her face, that sideways smirk was too much.

I had a weird take on the writers because I didn't know they changed at any point, but I realized the quality of the episodes just seem to get worse and worse at some point. It used to be that in the final 2 minutes of the show, shit would go DOWN and I couldn't wait for the next show. Then all of a sudden, at that final 2 minute mark, they'd play some stupid song and it would end. The episode didn't seem to progress the story, it was like the shows wheels were spinning while trying to make it to the end of the season. It was like nothing happened. Once I finished s3 and was ready to find out what the internets take was and why things seemed to get worse...writers.

I was really starting to like Merle and Milton. I thought they could be great for the show, especially Milton. I kinda get Merel being killed off, we already have a survivalist who has a nasty streak in Daryl. I felt like a science guy would be a nice add to the group.

I'm still annoyed by Carl. Is it the character or the actor? He justs seems like a spoiled brat vs a kid that is becoming a cold killer.

The finale was lame as most of you already mentioned. Gov dips even further into the batshit insane role and guns down his people and his two generals basically accept it and fall in rank?

This seems to go totally with his batshit insane personality in the show.

Trailer was pretty awesome. I think they revealed a little too much... though if some of those people make it, it will be interesting/stupid how they make it out of those situations.

I've been yelling at them for 6 months to fortify the outer fence of the prison, that's just common sense.

I hope Daryl and Michonne have a baby... it will come out of the womb killing zombies. :yep:
