We've only got four more seasons together, and this is the first one where I expect us to make the playoffs. If you look at the above outline, you'll notice that the only difference for us is that we signed LF Matt Diaz in the offseason. He basically took Nyjer Morgan's spot on the 25-man roster. I only kept Morgan around for his speed but we have so much speed in our starters that we don't need to value pinch runners highly. Plus, Diaz gives us a better bat off the bench. Note that the lineup and pitching rotation/roles above are all subject to change based on performance, especially the batting lineup. The first three spots are pretty much locked (nice job Mav, Sarge, and F4E), but after that a lot can change. I'm actually going to start out the season not by simulating, but by playing the first few games (probably the first two or three series on the schedule) manually. Aside from a solo homer in the 3rd inning, Sean Brock's only troubles came in the 5th, when a bad call (yes, umps make bad calls sometimes in this game) evolved into a nightmare inning where Brock surrended three runs. He settled in, however, and pitched through the seventh inning. Thanks to some timely offense reclaiming the lead, the Trolls sent out the best of their bullpen in Dontrelle Hanrahan and Marcus Bishop in the 8th and 9th innings respectively. Both retired the side in order and the Trolls opened their 2015 campaign with a win against the defending NL Central champs. On the other side, Shawn Robles got himself into trouble, giving up nine hits, but was able to pitch himself out of said trouble very well, only giving up two runs. He was pulled after loading the bases and walking in a run in the fifth, but Min-su Sohn induced a 5-3 double play to end the inning. The rest of the game was smooth sailing for the Trolls, as their bullpen (especially Boof Bonser) held the lead. The Trolls have taken the first two of this four-game series. Nice to see the rest of the team doing well, also. And it's good to see/hear that the rotation is getting into trouble, but able to pitch out of that trouble. What game are you using again? Continuously stringing hits together, the Trolls had double digit runs in just four innings. Several key starters were pulled in the seventh inning with a secure lead. Though the Cardinals were blanked by Kendall Harden's seven shutout innings, they fouled off many balls and made Harden throw a lot of pitches. Sylvester Pack gave up two runs in the eighth but got himself out of the jam, and Min-su Sohn pitched a quick ninth to end the game. So stats like plate vision and plate discipline don't really matter since I'm the one pressing X to swing. Your vision/discipline ratings are super high so once we go back on the sim your stats should increase rather quickly. As for the rest of you Trolls, I shall be playing the final game of our four-game series with St. Louis tomorrow afternoon/evening. Thornton relied heavily upon his 99mph fastball early on, and the Cardinals were ready for it, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding another in the third. Thornton adjusted, however, mixing pitches better and using his breaking pitches to set up his fastball. He settled in well and ended up going seven strong innings. The Trolls lineup, meanwhile, faced frustrations all afternoon. Hitters were making good contact on Guy Giles' pitches, but the balls never found a hole, always ending up in the glove of a Cardinal defender. Several deep fly balls were caught on the warning track. They had only two hits through six innings, both of which were by Will Taylor. Things looked bleak after the Trolls failed to capitalize with bases loaded and one out in the seventh inning, but they came right back in the eighth, stringing hits together and finally getting on the board, eventually tying the game. The Trolls' bullpen was once again fantastic as they completely shut the door while the lineup chipped away, finally taking the lead on a pinch-hit single by Jerome Crouch in the top of the 11th. Things looked dicey in the bottom of the 11th when Terrell Flores found himself facing a runner on 2nd with one out, but Will Taylor caught a deep fly ball in left and threw a bullet to Maverick at third base to gun down the tagging runner. Flores got the next batter to ground out to end the game. As a minor note, Jonathan Maverick went 0 for 6 today and looked very sluggish in the process. He was also unavailable for comments after the game. Several unconfirmed reports have surfaced on the Internet that Maverick was allegedly hungover today following a bachelor party he attended last night.
