BLUE 1,026 Posted October 27, 2011 (edited) Per Rotoworld.com: Bears waived SS Chris Harris.Harris was permitted to seek a trade prior to the deadline, but said he would stick it out in Chicago as a backup after finding no takers. He then started last week's game against the Bucs with Major Wright (hip) a late scratch. Apparently, the Bears have simply had enough. Harris was a second-team All-Pro last season, but has been getting abused in coverage this year. He probably runs 4.8 at this stage of his career, but could help a team capable of using him mostly on run downs. Harris has always been able to make plays on the ball with 12 forced fumbles and 15 interceptions in a seven-year career. Oct 27 - 9:23 AM Source: Vaughn McClure on Twitter And: Former Bears SS Chris Harris would like to end up with the Broncos or Panthers if he goes unclaimed on waivers.Harris played for Broncos coach John Fox in Carolina from 2007-2009, and maintains a good relationshiop with former Bears DC and current Panthers coach Ron Rivera. Both teams have younger secondaries and struggling run defenses, though if they really want Harris they will likely put in a waiver claim. A liability in pass coverage, interest in Harris is unlikely to be robust. Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted October 29, 2011 Chris Harris has found a quick way to move up in the NFC North standings. He wasn’t going anywhere with the Chicago Bears, not this weekend anyway with them on a bye, but the Detroit Lions claimed the veteran safety off waivers. Harris is familiar with his new team and the division. What’s interesting is Harris’ quick slide out of town began after he allowed a 73-yard touchdown pass to Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson in a loss for the Bears earlier this month at Ford Field. Perhaps the Lions will look to pair Harris with talented free safety Louis Delmas. They have been using Amari Spievey at strong safety. Harris doesn’t have the speed to help in coverage but could be a box safety for a Lions’ run defense that has been trampled in recent weeks. Harris is in the final year of his contract.
