Rams Fire Coach Spagnuolo and GM Devanney

Blank Monday has its first victim.

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that the Rams have fired coach Steve Spagnuolo. ESPN reported last night that Spags and G.M. Billy Devaney would be let go on Monday, and now it’s happened.

Glazer doesn’t mention whether Devaney will keep his job.

Spagnuolo seems like he could be a good coach in the right situation, but St. Louis was clearly not that situation. SI’s Peter King pointed out he lost more regular season games in three years than Bill Belichick has in more than a decade in New England.

The hanging question: Will any other coaches be fired Monday?

It sounds like Chargers owner Dean Spanos wants to take some time to make his final decision. The Bucs ownership has not moved quickly on changes in the past. The Colts or a possible surprise team is out there.

For now, four head coaching jobs are vacant: Jacksonville, St. Louis, Kansas City, and Miami. Of those four situations, the Rams have the most promising quarterback and the best draft pick.

The Rams are smart. They respect the guy and just put him outta his misery instead of hangin' him out there...

...and then there are the dumb fuck Glazer boys...who will drag this mother fucker out there and if they do can Morris they'll be behind in the search for his replacement yet again...

@michaelombardi:

GM Billy Devanney also fired in St Louis as well.

Edited the title to reflect the GM firing as well.

Knew this was coming though.. Rams have had the worst record over the last 3 years (Spags' run). Averaging 3 wins a season will not get you a contract extension as a head coach.

It didn't help that they missed with their #1 pick, who was supposed to be their franchise QB.

Terry McCormick of Titan Insider reports that the Rams have "serious interest" in making Jeff Fisher their next head coach.

NBC's Peter King also reports that St. Louis has set up an interview with Fisher. The Rams' last three coaches (Mike Martz, Scott Linehan, Steve Spagnuolo) have all been promoted coordinators. Fisher would be their first "recycled" head coach since the Dick Vermeil era, which apparently is the way owner Stan Kroenke is leaning amid reported interest in Jon Gruden, as well. Fisher turns 54 in February. He had a career record of 146-120 with the Titans.

The question is...

Do the Rams stick with Sam and try to get some weapons, or do they give up on him and draft RG3 with the #2 overall pick?

I'd move on completely... But I am worried about that contract. Isn't he owed a lot of money still?!

Spags was a good DC, but he was just never cut out to be the kind of HC who builds a team from the ground up. He seems like the kinda guy who needs to walk into a team that has already been set up for him IMO.

The Rams are just historically bad. Doesn`t help that all of their DB`s are injury prone and their QB is heading towards PTSD.
