Jags' HC Interviewees

Recommended Posts

There seems to be quite a few of them, so it's time for a dedicated thread :yep:

The Jaguars have requested permission to interview Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey for their head coaching job.

Mularkey has been in charge of the Falcons' offense since 2008 and was the head coach of the Bills from 2004-05. He's known a a quarterback-friendly coach, something that Blaine Gabbert sorely needs. Current Jags offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter is not expected back.

The Jaguars have requested permission to interview Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski for their head coaching job.

As one of the most creative and effective offensive minds in the game, Chudzinski could be a godsend for Blaine Gabbert. However, he may want to set his sights higher. After helping Cam Newton to a historic rookie year, "Chud" will have his pick of head coaching gigs over the next couple of years. Gabbert's rookie-year struggles won't make the Jacksonville job very attractive.

The New York Daily News reports Jets OC Brian Schottenheimer will interview for the head coaching job in Jacksonville.

Schottenheimer is reportedly on the outs in New York after his offense averaged just 311.8 yards per game, but he has been a head-coaching candidate in the past. The son of longtime NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer, Brian at least has a strong pedigree. He'll be far from a lock to land the Jags' top job, but it's becoming apparent he won't be back with the Jets.

The Jags haven't formally removed interim coach Mel Tucker, but the writing is on the wall. They've been aggressively tied to head coaching candidates on Black Monday. Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer will be interviewed, and the Jaguars hope to do the same with Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski. Mularkey is their most experienced target so far.

The Panthers have granted the Jaguars permission to interview OC Rob Chudzinski for Jacksonville's head coaching job.

Chudzinski, 43, has worked wonders for Derek Anderson in Cleveland and rookie Cam Newton in Carolina. His loss would have the potential to be a significant blow to the Panthers. Carolina's 2011 offense set a franchise record for yards (6,237), a year after finishing last in the league. Only the Packers, Saints, Patriots, and Lions scored more points than the Panthers this season.

Add two more to the list:

@AdamSchefter Jaguars requested and received permission to interview Patriots OC Bill O’Brien, who still is squarely on Penn St.'S radar.

@taniagangul ESPN also reported the #Jaguars will interview Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy. So that's five offensive coordinators so far.

Not impressed with any of these names so far.

Based on the names mentioned to this point it seems like the Jags' top priority is finding a coach who can make Blaine Gabbert a winner.

Definitely looking in the right direction. Not so sure any of the guys they are looking at will be able to get the job done, however.

The Jaguars will interview Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey for their head-coaching job on Tuesday.

Mularkey's stock took a hit when his offense failed to score a point in Sunday's Wild Card round loss to the Giants, but the Jags have eyeballed him all along. It's not out of the question that Sunday's game enhanced Mularkey's interest in the Jacksonville job. Atlanta is probably going to make some changes.

I really don't think Mularkey or Schotty would make good HC's seeing as they aren't even good OC's, but Chud would be an excellent hire for the Jags, IMO.

If the Jaguars are committed to making Blaine Gabbert a franchise quarterback, Chudzinski has to be their guy, IMO. The man made Derek Anderson look like a Pro Bowler, for fuck's sake.
