Zack_of_Steel+ 3,014 Posted May 12, 2017 So I keep forgetting to mention since I've been so busy. About 2 months ago I heard my boss was looking for a night manager, so I wrote up a letter and asked for a meeting. He very quickly gave me the promotion and it's been going well thus far, I just have a bit less free time. I had asked in the meeting about a raise and he said we'd revisit it in a while. We got our paychecks yesterday and he switched me to salary, making as much as the day manager that's been here for over 6 years! It's a sizable raise at an easy job and I'm stoked about it. So if any of you wants to move to the 3rd best city in Nebraska, be my best friend, and work for me getting paid up to $18/hour, PLEASE let me know.
Sarge+ 3,436 Posted May 12, 2017 Congrats, Zack. I remember a long time when you lost your old job. Things worked out better for you in the long run.

OSUViking 505 Posted May 17, 2017 Finished strong this semester despite having a lot of mental health issues at the start. I'm roughly three months without any psychotic symptoms, as well.

SteVo+ 3,702 Posted July 12, 2017 Congratulations, Socal!!! Here's to a relatively stress-free wedding planning and a happy future with the soon-to-be Mrs. Socal. Also, I'm probably reaching here, but has anyone ever told you you look like Kevin Bacon?

Also, I'm probably reaching here, but has anyone ever told you you look like Kevin Bacon? Fiance is already stressed on the wedding planning lol. Yeah I used to get Kevin Bacon regularly, not as much these days but now that I have longer hair again ill probably start hearing it more. My fiancé gets Chrissy Teigen on a daily basis so I guess we'll be that couple
SteVo+ 3,702 Posted July 12, 2017 As someone who has a wedding in a few days, I have two recommendations: 1) have the wedding at or extremely near a hotel, so the ceremony and reception are at the same place, and 2) have the wedding you and your fiance want, not whatever either person's parents want.

Looks like sound advice. She's already worrying about accommodating everyone and I have been trying to get her to remember that its our day. If people want to be there they will find a way. I can't tell you how many conversations I've had with my fiance where she's said something like, "Well, __________ said that we should..." blah blah blah blah Do what you want!

Sarge+ 3,436 Posted July 14, 2017 I finally had the balls (but really, I finally thought what the hell, I know enough Spanish and about life here) to get my own place. It's in a great neighborhood. Busting my ass at work is paying off big time.
Omerta+ 1,206 Posted October 21, 2017 I have been looking for this thread for a while, it was buried, which is kinda sad is it not? Anywhoo, the wife passed her USMLE 3 test a while ago and her boards for orthopedic surgery this month. She has an offer letter from Harborview Hospital in Seattle which is an outstanding hospital and the starting salary is well into the 400's. It has taken her almost 12 years but we will finally be able to start living life the way we should be. I have been doing well in my business and completed my first 1 million dollar job which was a tenant improvement for T-mobile in the Seattle area. My take from it was a little over 200, and that was the coup de grace for her student loans. We have been living decent but all the money I have been making has been going to paying down her debt and now we can start taking trips when time allows and move out of our house and rent it out. My son also got accepted into a private school that is great in engineering which seems to be his interest at the moment. I truly am just relieved to know that the money I make can finally go to some things I like instead of just making sure my wife and I are not in dept to our eyes and the economy goes to to shit and we are both in trouble. Now we just have to work on becoming recession proof... This truly is a blessed day in our house.
OSUViking 505 Posted October 21, 2017 That's great to hear Ngata. I hope to live frugally enough so that I can start developing a recession buffer as well once I get into the work force. In my own neck of the woods, I was accepted into the Data Analytics track for ISE here at OSU. It's a tough program, and they only let in so many people each semester. It requires a lot of math and a lot of programming (I'm going to be taking 4 intro-but-still-hard CSE classes and 2 more higher level courses on stuff like data mining. This stuff is really interesting to me right now, so I'm definitely looking forward to it. Also, I'm gonna try that NaNoWriMo again. I have an idea in mind for another book.

Omerta+ 1,206 Posted October 22, 2017 Thanks gentleman, I am all for a party, just let a few of the wifey's paychecks hit. Then we can drink middle shelf because I am a cheap bastard. No Rip Van Winkle in my liquor cabinet
