Avs news: Gabriel Landeskog won the Calder trophy

David Quinn is going to be an assistant coach

RW David Jones got a 4-yr deal (meh)

D-man Matt Hunwick signed a 2-yr deal ( seems like we have a lot of small defensemen)

Milan Hejduk will play at least one more year

Cody McLeod was signed to an extension ( Greg Sherman is awesome!)

Darren Helm signed a 4yr/$8.5m contract. Great buy for the Wings, one of the key pieces to the team.

Just wondering, and I know I'm biased but...Why hasn't Lidstrom been even nominated for at least 15 years of his career for the Lady Byng? It always seems to go to the forward with the best points to PIM ratio. Lidstrom is the epitome of class combined with being one of the best on the ice.

Scott Clemmensen might be the best goaltender available in the free agent goalie class going into this summer.

There are still some teams looking to alter their crease for next season and the Columbus Blue Jackets are one of them. GM Scott Howson said he would like to add three goaltenders to his club's roster by the start of training camp and he wants to bring some stability to his crease. Clemmensen could fit into that equation for the short term, while Jonas Gustavsson, Martin Biron and Chris Mason are options as well.

The Ottawa Senators are believed to be in the mix for Rick Nash.

Multiple sources have have reported that Senators GM Bryan Murray has held talks with Columbus regarding Nash and some have gone as far as to say what Ottawa appears to be willing to give up. The Senators' package is rumored to include prospect Mika Zibanejad, winger Nick Foligno and goaltender Ben Bishop. They certainly have the organizational assets to go after Nash if they choose, so their inclusion into the auction for Nash's services is intriguing.

Oh yeah I like the move the Lightning made by getting Anders Lindback who was stuck behind Pekka Rinne in Nashville.

Flyers made an interesting splash in trading James van Riemsdyk to Toronto for Luke Schenn. JVR has star potential but has been inconsistent, while Schenn has the potential to provide the defense the Flyers desperately need, and is now paired with his brother Braden.

So now you've got the Schenn brothers in Philly, Staal brothers in Carolina, and of course the Sedin brothers in Vancouver.

I'm happy Matt Duchene is going to be an Avalanche for at least two more years.

Caps hired Adam Oates as head coach. He's been an assistant for only 3 years, and they hire him to be the HC? lolCaps.

And was great those three years as well as mostly responsible for our record breaking penalty kill in the regular season.

A 12-year commitment to a player who's one concussion away from retiring? Bet the Penguins end up regretting that one.

It seems the Flyers are poised to go hard for Zach Parise. This should be interesting. :devious:

Edit: Oh, and Ryan Suter too. Much rather have Suter, since he fills a bigger need on defense.

Sure would be nice if the Sabres could be a major part of free agency. But no, I'm glad we're giving Ville Leino 4.5 million.

Some of the bigger signings so far...

Ray Whitney signed to the Dallas Stars. Two years, $9 million for the 40 year old who led the Coyotes in scoring last season.

Filip Kuba to the Florida Panthers on a two year $8 million deal. This will be good to replace Jason Garrison who is still a free agent.

Dustin Penner returns to the defending champion Los Angeles Kings on a one year deal for $3.25 million.

Brandon Prust signs with the Montreal Canadiens, 4 years $10 mil.

Biggest wtf moment for me was Calagry giving Wideman a 5 year twenty five million....at best he is an average defenseman.
