Titans running backs coach claims Chris Johnson hasn’t changed

Recommended Posts

there's no excuse for that, makes it tough to even say that a lot of the blame, much less most of it, is on CJ when he's averaging more yards after contact than yards from scrimmage, that's just piss poor oline play, it basically means that on average he's getting hit a tenth of a yard behind the line of scrimmage

The good news for the Titans is they play us this week. All they gotta do is run traps to the 1,3,9 and draws and CJ can go for over 150 on over 6.0 YPC. :yep:

Impossible. CJ will make the wrong reads and get swallowed, even if they do block the play correctly.

My fellow Titan fans, what do you think should happen to this coaching staff? I know its early but from week one to week two i didnt seem any improvement, nor any adjustments.

To be fair, I was freaking out when Coach Munch started bringing back everyone from the Run and Shoot days of the Oilers, and was slightly less estatic back then. I am sure some members on here might remember me making comments. LOL

I would say maybe a different direction in offensive playcalling, and an upgrade in talent along the interior, and get some more talented pass rushers on the edges and dominant defensive tackles and we should be good to go. Our defenses have always thrived off dominant defensive lines, and we need to get that back.

But for now, we mostly just need to get in a different groove offensively so our offense can stay on the field longer, allowing our defense to actually get a breather. We NEED to get more screens and in situations for CJ to excel with his speed.

I've been saying it since he had that 2,000 all-purpose yard season that he was a one season wonder and he'll never come close to duplicating it again. Ahmad Bradshaw will hit 2,000 rushing yards in a season before he does, which will never happen.

That's not much of a prediction. You're pretty safe in saying that someone who had a 2,000 yard season won't have another one, since no one in the history of the NFL has ever had multiple 2,000 yard seasons. CJ is not a one-hit wonder, just look at the yards he got in his other seasons. He is simply a back that requires a good offensive line to do much.

Chris Johnson admitted, hey i got this big contract, im going to be the focal point of the blame.

Which is exactly why he called out the rest of the team, amirite?

you're gonna be pretty hard pressed to find a back who doesn't need a good offensive line

Marshawn Lynch did a nice job, Roy Helu in Washington to end the year... Matt Forte. Heck, even though S-Jax has been steadily declining... he's been working with a horrid run block game for YEARS.

We know CJ has a terrible OLine... but the real question I think is... Why such the dropoff? And I can't say that CJ is actually helping anything. It's not like his God-Given talent is just being squandered and smothered... I don't see much out of him.

Not really. Adrian Peterson, Maurice Jones-Drew, Matt Forte all spring to mind.

The backs that are truly elite can do things even without a good offensive line. Obviously, they'd be better with a good one, but they can still do decently well without one. CJ cannot.

Their oline arent consistently bad like ours though. They arent consistently good, but if anyone watched the Vikings Colts game and wants to say that oline looked bad... think again. They were MAULING the Colts up front. We HAVENT DONE THAT in ..ever. Somethings gotta change though, Palmer doesnt know how to fix it and apprently Munch dont either. Matt Forte would be next in line in terms of bad oline play to ours. AP oline least mauls at times, and Jags oline isnt even that bad? CJ isnt big like em to break a DE tackle. Just because he cant do that doesnt mean he sucks. CJ can break tackles but not when he just got the ball in the backfield. NOBODY can run behind our oline period. Its not just CJ , no one has looked good running. It would help to actually be able to get back to the LOS. Irony at its finest for Munch...

Yeah hes allowed to do that. Hes told the media he could be a bit better too, he doesnt need to say that EVERY time though come on bro. The bigger blame DOES go to the oline(and now the team, -__- ). They are playing like shit on both run and pass blocking so far this year. It seems to have gotten worse. How, come on coaching staff for fucks sake. And CJ still hit 1000 last year. Id be surprised if he does this year. Hell i doubt any RB will go for 200 yards for the YEAR if the line keeps playing this way. I myself am already done with this staff honestly. Sure get a pass for the lockout last year, but when u go 9-7 and improve and gain exp playing with the same players, no fucking way should u get worse. Ive never seen such bad oline play ever. Which is insulting considerin the fucking HOF lineman we have on this staff!!

A bit better?

Are you shitting me right now, Mikey? You think CJ is off the hook because he said he could be a bit better?

Brandon fucking WEEDEN has more rush yards than CJ"2K". It is not all on the O-line, and yes, elite backs could run behind your O-line. Which elite back has run back there? Are you seriously saying CJ is excused because Javon Ringer isn't able to run really well, (though iirc, he ran better than CJ)?

Whether you like to admit the fact or not, he hasn't looked the same since he got paid. Maybe he's slacked off in the weight room. Maybe he doesn't want to take the hits like he used to. I don't know what it is, but I don't care how bad your O-line is, 21 rushing yards for a guy who is being paid as much as he is, after two games, is completely fucking inexcusable.

Yup that's right, CJ definitely hasn't changed...he's still the same gigantic douche he's always been.

$100 of my money says that AP, Foster, MJD and Forte(if he's ever healthy) would be fine if they were on the Titans. CJ is just not a great back, he had one incredible year and that was it. He wont ever lead the league in anything rushing related, unless it's a negative statistic, and his career will end up like TO, 85 and co. waiting for a team to give him another chance and he'll flop like a fish outta water.

Lol some of these opinions of CJ are fucking ignorant as hell. Douche. I fail to see what made him a douche. He doesnt cause nor get in any trouble, and hes played in every game since hes been in the league.

The line is the problem, stop replying on here and watch a full Titans game ( on offense at least ). Our oline plays EVERY WEEK like the Panthers line did in week one vs the Bucs. YES they do.

If Cj2K5s career ended up like T.O, he would have hall of fame numbers and be 2nd all time leader in his category.

Post from another forum:

Wow, so footballoutsiders finally posted stats after two games and at this point our run game is literally worse than a bunch of dead people just laying there. It's 300% worse than it was last year so far.

Our left and right tackles are literally the worst blockers to ever live so far this year.

Also we have run up the middle on 60% of runs, with a player who has never been that successful running up the middle and we're at the top of the league with running up the middle. Incompetence at it's best.

http://footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol

Also from that forum, post I found fitting and funny:

CJ's fault. If the loser would just use some of his $53 million to buy a jet pack this wouldn't be a problem. Instead he's just lazy and loves getting crushed in the backfield. Such a bust.

The Titans can get off the hook for $9 million of Chris Johnson's $10 million base salary in 2013 by releasing him after the Super Bowl.

The $10 million salary becomes fully guaranteed if Johnson is on the Titans' roster in the days after the Super Bowl. The Titans would absorb a salary cap hit to release Johnson, but it might be worth it to rid themselves of such an underachieving player. Johnson has been completely ineffective again this season, so much so that some observers have suggested measuring his gains in feet instead of yards. Johnson is averaging 1.10 YPC. That isn't a typo.

and on his first three carries today CJ almost doubles his season yardage, not saying problem solved, but it's definitely too early to say he's done (though I will concede that if he doesn't get it together by the end of the season then it probably will be about time)

EDIT: then of course, his fourth run goes for -7, wish I could watch the game so I could actually comment on what's going on

well, week 3 and our QB has been our leading rusher in all three games, not to take away from Locker's running, which has been great, but we need to get more out of called runs

Yeah the run blocking wont get better. Makes me wonder what the Titans will do with CJ since they obviously dont wanna release Amano or Harris. We could have had a Scott Wells but nooooooooo.
