BLUE 1,026 Posted February 4, 2013 Per Rotoworld.com: Impending free agent Joe Flacco is "pretty optimistic" about his chances of securing a long-term deal with the Ravens."I'm pretty optimistic, but who knows," Flacco said. "This is a great organization. I don't anticipate any problem." After winning Super Bowl MVP and tossing 11 touchdowns to zero interceptions this postseason, Flacco said owner Steve Bisciotti let him know before the season that if he won a Super Bowl Flacco could "go beat on [bisciotti]'s desk and really put it to him." That's what Flacco plans to do. Baltimore will undoubtedly have to slap him with the exclusive franchise tag if a long-term deal can't be reached, and that carries about a $20.5 million price tag. AL_Royalty 489 Posted February 5, 2013 lol....Bitches please. 20 mil and that mofo can walk. I will take Tyrod Taylor and cap space out the ass over tying up 20 million on a QB who is only above average in the regular season. Granted the dude is a fire breathing dragon who eats lightning and craps thunder in the playoffs, but come the fuck on. Flacco is not Drew Brees. If we let him go and become 4-12 which is right about where we would be looking....johnny Football is going to be a Raven lol. You are the most Raven hating Ravens fan I've ever come across. I know Browns fans that give the Ravens more respect than you do. On the matter at hand, I don't think Flacco is a 20 mil per guy, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get somewhere in the neighborhood of that. He's made me a believer, and that's something I never thought I'd say. He's a Raven, for sure. He takes chance after chance, risk after risk, and they're starting to pay off. He's progressed from a strong arm attached to an empty head to a real NFL QB. I didn't see that coming. He was always the guy who you just knew was going to let you down, and now he's a SB MVP. He's earned a payday. He's going to get it.
baltimoreravens 19 Posted February 5, 2013 I don't know the exact figures but we have a lot of people we are trying to hold onto... Boldin, Ellerbe, Kruger, Reed to name a few. Money will probably get freed up from restructuring contracts, a few cuts, and maybe a few that retire (Birk?) but I know it's going to be difficult to navigate a huge contract for Joe that he deserves and trying to hold onto these guys especially Kruger who will be sought out by other teams if he gets to the open market. He deserves big money and he'll get it, hopefully sooner than later and hopefully a little less than $20M because we need to hold onto others.
AL_Royalty 489 Posted February 5, 2013 The more I hear about this, the more I think the check is in the mail. He's getting 20+.
CribbsForTheWin 117 Posted February 6, 2013 Yeah, they are already over the cap for next year. But I would trade winning the Superbowl one year for losing a decent amount of players the next because you can't afford them any more, any day.

AL_Royalty 489 Posted February 6, 2013 Give him $30 million. Greatest QB ever. Haha. indeed. He still has work to do before he proves he's consistent enough to justify 20+, but you gotta admit that what he did this season was nothing short of impressive. He earned a contract. Now he just has to live up to the inflated sum that he's going to get.
Thanatos 2,847 Posted February 6, 2013 What he did in the postseason was impressive. What he did in the regular season was average.
SteVo+ 3,702 Posted February 6, 2013 The player rep for free agent Joe Flacco told CNBC on Tuesday that his client deserves to be the NFL's highest paid quarterback. http://www.cnbc.com/id/100436500 They should make Flacco the highest paid player in the league, have a nice, lavish press conference...and then the Packers should re-sign Rodgers the next day and one-up it. housemd 338 Posted February 8, 2013 According to the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens are "debating between" using the exclusive-rights franchise tag or non-exclusive tag on free agent Joe Flacco. The "exclusive" tag is rarely used, but it's what the Saints slapped on Drew Brees last year. Players are allowed to negotiate with other teams under the non-exclusive tag, but the tagging team can match any offer, and receives two first-round picks as compensation if it decides to pass. Exclusively tagged players can only negotiate with the tagging team. Flacco would earn an eye-popping $20.5 million under the exclusive tag, compared to "only" $14.6 million under the non-exclusive tag. Considering the number of quarterback-needy teams around the league, we'd expect Baltimore to play it safe and use the exclusive tag. TheSidelineView.com's Adam Caplan believes other teams would pursue Flacco if the Ravens applied the non-exclusive franchise tag.
housemd 338 Posted February 24, 2013 Profootballtalk's Mike Florio reports "current speculation" from the Combine is that the Ravens will slap free agent Joe Flacco with the non-exclusive franchise tag. It'd be a massive gamble by Baltimore. The Ravens would then put all of their trust into Flacco bringing any offer he receives back to them before signing. Florio points out the chances of Flacco leaving remain small, but the non-exclusive tag would give quarterback-needy teams (Arizona, Cleveland?) a window of opportunity to put the full-court press on the Super Bowl MVP. The non-exclusive tender carries a $14.6 million price. Baltimore has until March 4 to make its move.

Phins4life 271 Posted February 25, 2013 Granted the dude is a fire breathing dragon who eats lightning and craps thunder in the playoffs, but come the fuck on. Just playing a little Devil's Advocate here, but isn't that ultimately all that matters? I mean, I've seen past arguments where Manning's overall value is downgraded because of great season play but mediocre playoff play. Yet I don't hear anyone saying he's less elite in the long run. If Flacco can manage an okay season and then get into the payoffs with 11 TD to 0 INT, I think I'll take that. That said, I'm on board that 20/yr is insane. But that's the market for you. Every new deal will be the biggest one. How else does Nnamdi get a top cornerback deal?
BLUE 1,026 Posted March 1, 2013 Per Rotoworld.com: FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reports the Ravens and Joe Flacco have agreed to a long-term deal, and it will be signed on Monday.Terms of the deal are not yet known, but the Ravens beat the deadline with one of their star players once again. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora talked to a few contract negotiators around the league earlier in the day and speculated a deal could range anywhere from five years and $90 million to six years and $108 million. Of course, neither of those average the $20 million annually that Flacco is said to be seeking, so those could be conservative numbers. Our own Evan Silva predicted seven years and $140 million. The main thing is the Ravens have locked Flacco up long-term without having to use the franchise tag and tying up major cap space as a result. Baltimore can now move on to free agents Dannell Ellerbe, Paul Kruger, and Ed Reed. Stay tuned for further updates.
