2013 Mock Draft Game Selection Thread

Recommended Posts

TRADE ALERT.

The Green Bay Packers trade the 26th overall pick to the Arizona Cardinals for the 38th and 102nd overall picks.

With the 26th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Entry Draft, the Arizona Cardinals select:

D.J. Fluker, OT, Alabama

130121135250-dj-fluker-single-image-cut.jpg

Picked up my franchise LT with Joeckel, and now I get my franchise RT with Fluker. One of the worst offensive lines in the league now looks a hell of a lot better after the first round of the draft. At 6'5" 339lbs, Fluker is an absolute beast in the run game and one of the biggest factors in Alabama's dominant rushing attack. He also possesses the quick feet coaches look for in the pass game. Get some!

With the 27th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select...

Kevin Minter: ILB, LSU

20121129_kkt_ad1_211.0_standard_352.0.jpg

Depth at inside linebacker has definitely become a huge issue for the Texans. There's no telling whether or not Cushing will be back at 100% following an ACL injury, and behind him is an aging Bradie James and an injury riddled Darryl Sharpton. Minter has great instincts, looks to make contact, a run stuffer, and a sure tackler. With a healthy Cushing, they could become a deadly duo over the middle so watch out TEs and RBs!

The Denver Broncos are now on the clock.

In a trade with the Denver Broncos, the Houston Texans are again back on the clock!

And with the 28th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select...

Quinton Patton: WR, Louisiana Tech

usp-ncaa-football_-senior-bowl-south-practice-4_3_r536_c534.jpg

One of my favorite prospects in this draft class Patton will finally give the Texans a legit #2 receiver opposite Andre Johnson. With great hands, and a very disciplined route runner, there are no more excuses to be made for Matt Schaub if he cannot win with this team.

The New England Patriots are now on the clock.

With the 29th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select...

DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson

0902_dmsp_Clemson_Auburn048_t300.JPG

With Welker on his way out and potentially Lloyd as well, Hopkins makes for a very ideal selection and fit into the Patriots offense. Not to mention, the Pats haven't really had a guy that can stretch the field since they traded away Randy Moss early on in the 2010 season. With Brady throwing him the ball, he should be absolutely lethal in the receiving game.

Atlanta, you're now on the clock.

With the 30th pick of the 2013 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select...

Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame

tyler-eifert.jpeg

With the Favre status of Tony Gonzalez' retirement, Matt Ryan could use another security blanket...one that will become a monster. Tyler Eifert has the size, hands, agility, everything you look for in a starting TE, he's also an underrated blocker. Matt Ryan and the Falcons offense add yet another weapon...and if Tony G does come back...well it's a whole new ballgame.

49ers, you're now on the clock.

With the 33rd pick of the 2013 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select:

Kawann Short, DT, Purdue

Kawann-Short.jpeg

Jacksonville plugs a hole up the middle which caused them to be one of the worst run defenses in the league last year. With the inconsistent Terrance Knighton possibly headed off in Free Agency, Short fills that need. Short is a very good DT who eats blocks and takes up space against the run as good as any player in this draft other than Star. A very disruptive force in the middle, he is an ideal match for the 3-tech DT spot in Gus Bradley's defense.

Kansas City is now on the clock.

With the 34th Selection in the 2013 NFL Draft... The Kansas City Chiefs select...

Johnathan Cyprien, S, Florida International

20130131_kkt_ah6_382.0_standard_730.0.jpg

The Chiefs have paired the likes of Abram Elam, Jon McGraw, and the worst player in NFL History, Sabby Piscatelli, with Eric Berry in the defensive backfield, and that just won't cut it.

Cyprien plays exactly like you would want from a safety -- aggressively and out to make the devastating hits. His versatility will be huge for the Chiefs as he plays on the LoS extremely well. He holds his blocks well, even when taking on a much larger player.

I will take his versatility over a guy like Elam, and his consistency over a guy like Reid.

He plays with a high football IQ, which is key for the position. And his ball skills and range of play increase by the day. He may not make the impact you want right out of the gate, but he is always learning and always bettering himself as a player. In time, he will prove to be one of the best of this class.

After much moving around, I feel pretty comfortable that I got my guy.

With the 35th pick in the 2013 NFL draft, the Denver Broncos select

Alex Okafor, DE, Texas

alex-okafor.jpg

Now I'm sure you're thinking isn't the Broncos pass rush sick enough already? Yeah it sure is, but our interior line sucks because we're playing Derek Wolfe out of his natural position. This immediately improves our defensive line by getting one of the top 4-3 end prospects in the draft. When we give Flacco all day to throw in the playoffs, we need to bolster our pass rush since Von Miller can't always do it alone, and elvis is inconsistent as balls. We get a guy with great moves, great hands, and a great future in Bronco Orange.

With the 38th Selection in the 2013 NFL Draft -- The Green Bay Packers select...

Giovani Bernard, RB, North Carolina

ncf_u_bernard_ps_400.jpg

de0k76.png

Gio is a very compact back, who uses his legs to drive through would-be tackles for extra yardage. His size allows him to get a leverage advantage against defenders while he has the quickness and explosion to excel in the open field. He has a great field of vision to make his cuts and hit his holes correctly and quickly. And he also provides as a nice receiver out of the backfield.

He showcases a great number of moves in the open field, especially a nasty stiff arm. And maybe his strongest attribute is his ability to stay upright and balanced.

The Packers finally have their RB.

With the 39th selection in the 2013 NFL Entry Draft the New York Jets select...

Eric Reid, S, LSU

dm_130104_nfl_eric_reid_draft.jpg

The Jets will continue to build through defense in this draft and after taking care of line backing in the first round we move to the secondary.

We feel Eric Reid is a great pick in this spot. Naturally speaking this man could easily be a first rounder. He's got great size and length, isn't afraid to hit, is good against the run, and seems fairly comfortable in man-to-man coverage. We welcome Reid to the Jets roster.

With the 40th overall selection in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans select..

Larry Warford, OG, Kentucky

Larry_Warford.jpg

With Steve Hutchinson's health concerns, and the overall ineptitude at the right guard position, offensive guard is undoubtedly a need for the Tennessee Titans. Larry Warford fills that need. Big and strong at 6'3 and 330 pounds, Warford is a guard that even the elite defensive linemen in the SEC had trouble getting through. Extremely versatile, having the athleticism to play in any scheme as well as hold his own against any speed rusher, Warford will fit well in the Titans offensive line, especially with people like JJ Watt lining up across from him 2 times a year.

If not for playing at Kentucky, Warford would be a much more well known name, and potentially even a first round pick. The Titans can't complain at all grabbing him in the second.

With the 41st (side of Vernon) overall selection in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select..

Khaseem Greene, OLB, Rutgers

ncf_i_greene_wm_600.jpg

Doug Marrone's nightmares of Khaseem Greene's single handed dismantling of his Syracuse team (14 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 1½ sacks, 1 interception) last year follow him into the NFL. He figures, if you can't beat him... force him to join you. A Former safety who has developed and progressed into an excellent run-and-hit weakside linebacker. He covers backs with ease and fluidly drops into zone coverage. Hits pack a punch. Great at reading and diagnosing to get clean run-throughs and beating blockers to the spot. Bills address a glaring weakness to help shore up their abysmal run defense.

The Ravens are on the clock (or cock as Bucman would say)

With the 42nd pick in the NFL draft the Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens Select:

Jesse-Williams-NFL-Draft-420x314.jpg

Jesse Williams

Nose Tackle

University of Alabama

I was pretty excited he fell to us. Out of all the D tackles he fits us about as best as any body not named Lotouleui. He is not a real exceptional athlete although he still clocked a sub 5 40, not that it matters but he is more athletic than given credit for. He uses brute power to get to the ball carrier and eats up blocks on the offensive line. There are not many D tackles who have the motor this guy has. He never stops. He is good at penetrating into the backfield. He is also very quick off the ball and plays with leverage getting underneath his man. He is very adept at avoiding chop blocks and has very quick hands. He is not exactly a scheme versatile guy with his ability to play in the 3-4. That said we just need a monster to plug up the middle and for that this guy fits the bill about as well as you can ask for. The value here is also really good so Baltimore gets good value here and the ability to move on from Terrance Cody and a 36 year old FA.

Team Needs remaining: ILB, Dline, Oline, WR, S.

With the 44th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select:

hi-res-4976738_display_image.jpg?1343617817

Terrance Williams, WR, Baylor.

The Panthers lack a WR opposite Steve Smith, which is hopefully what they can groom this young man to become. Cam needs another weapon, and Williams gives him one.

With the 48th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select:

justin-hunter.jpg

Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee

Mike Wallace. Steelers now need another deep threat and Justin Hunter is the right guy,as he;s one of the best deep threats in this class. At 6'4,he's got a great size with and amazing catching radius. Don't let the size fool you,he's got the quickness to create separation from DB's.
