Darren Sharper Charged with Drugging and Raping Women

The only deal should be, lock him up and throw away the keys. Darren Sharper cuts plea deals in two of his four rape cases

On a day when rape charges were filed against him in Las Vegas, former NFL safety Darren Sharper filed plea deals in New Orleans and Los Angeles.

Of course, that leaves Arizona on his world tour of sexual assault charges.

According to the New Orleans Advocate, the pleas will be filed Monday, and appear to be part of a global plea deal to resolve all the charges against him.

Authorities in Los Angeles said they wouldn’t comment until Monday, and a spokesman for Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro said only that an agreement has been reached.

Sharper has been jailed in Los Angeles since his January, 17, 2014 arrest there.

The shit bag blamed "poor decision making." Waiting for a commercial to flip your grilled cheese is poor decision making. Waiting until an hour before your flight is poor decision making. Going on a cross country raping spree is something far more despicable. That's all, before I go and say some dumb shit.

Convicted rapist Darren Sharper will serve nine years in prison for his crimes, but he won’t return to a regular life after he finishes his sentence. If two New Orleans judges approve the deal instead of issuing a 20-year sentence in Louisiana, Sharper will be treated as a sex offender, and closely monitored for the rest of his life.

The New Orleans Advocate has details of the pending agreement. After prison, Sharper would be on parole in California, registered as a sex offender and narcotics offender. He’d be tracked by GPS. After parole, he’d be moved to Arizona for probation for the rest of his life. Sharper would no longer be allowed to drink alcohol, go to a bar, use online dating, or travel more than 50 miles away from his home without permission from state officials. His penis would be also be monitored:

Sharper will be subject to lie detector tests and, while on lifetime probation in Arizona, to the “penile plethysmograph,” in which a sensor is attached to the penis while an array of sexual images flashes before his eyes, to gauge arousal.

(It’s unclear what exactly what the penile plethysmograph does or proves.)

More from the Advocate:

Once finished with parole in California, Sharper would move to Arizona for lifetime probation, according to the agreement.

There, his neighbors, school groups and any employers will be alerted to his presence, and his face, address and a description of his crimes may be posted on a flier.

The terms of that probation will continue if Sharper lands back in prison for violating the conditions of the deal and serves out his sentence in prison.

“There will never be a time he will be finished,” a person familiar with the deal said.

As the deal is laid out, if Sharper violates it, he goes back to prison, finishes his sentence, and continues to follow these rules after he gets out again.

lol @ his penis being monitored. What kinda fuckery is this? Dude should be in prison for life anyways. He shouldn't be allowed in the general public ever again.

They should just repo his penis. FUCK hooking up an arousal sensor and then letting him watch porn to see how much he likes it. Unless it's pics of drunk passed out chicks, he probably can't get it up anyway though. What a fucking horrible waste of skin. Dude is a fucking grade A piece of shit, but I do feel like the punishment fits the crime. There are three types of criminals that get extra "special" treatment in prison: child molesters, ex - cops, and pathetic-ass rapists. He's not going to have to wait until he's out of jail to get his penis monitored. He's gonna know how all those women felt over and over again. The big difference is he won't have drugs or be passed out when it happens. That's nine years of karmic street justice. I award him no points and may god have mercy on his soul... or not. Doesn't really matter to me.

Darren Sharper taken out of William & Mary's Hall of Fame
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- William & Mary has removed former Tribe and NFL safety Darren Sharper from the school's Hall of Fame.
Athletic director Terry Driscoll said the move was made after Sharper's recent guilty plea on one of numerous rape charges he faces.
The former safety for the Tribe was enshrined in 2008. He ended a 14-year NFL career in 2011.

The more I think about it, the more I like this decision. I'll preface this by saying typically I think sports Halls of Fame should be based on what a player did on the field and his impact on the game. I don't think off field incidents should be considered. That's why I wouldn't like it if OJ Simpson was removed from the Pro Football HOF, or why I didn't like that it took three years for Michael Irvin to get in.

That said, a college HOF is different. Members of a college HOF should be people who not only excelled at their sport and had a positive impact on the sport, but should be people who have a positive impact on the college as a whole. Given the nature of these convictions Sharper no longer represents that.

I do think the recent pressure brought on colleges regarding sexual assaults on campus may have weighed into the decision, but regardless I don't think he's someone that the college should be celebrating. Good move, Tribe.

I can't believe you can be a serial rapist and only get sentenced a year in prison per rape. That's disgusting to me.. Our justice system has failed.

With that said, that penal monitoring thing sounds weird as hell. Can somebody explain to me the point of that? I don't like it, and it makes me feel sick somewhat / kind of defending a rapist in any way.

where did you see one year? it sounds to me like he's going to end up taking pleas in multiple jurisdictions and end up serving a series of consecutive sentences, basically bouncing from one prison to another for the foreseeable future

Yeah the penis monitoring sounds very much like cruel and unusual punishment. I do agree that more jail time is needed though.

He already did take pleas. Blue's post from April 10th says he is getting a total of 9 years, which is 1 year per rape. Gross. Justice system = Failure.

Darren Sharper plea deal in Las Vegas sex assault case

that article makes it sound like the nine years is just in Arizona and he's waiting for sentencing in California and Louisiana, he's also subjected to lifetime probation in Arizona, which is not something you see very often if at all

That was when he pleaded in Las Vegas and before he made deals in the other jurisdictions. He's getting 20 years, and only expected to serve 10 of it before being released on lifetime probation. With time already served he has about 9 years left. If he causes trouble in prison, it's possible to serve the full 20, but I don't know if anyone is actually expecting that to happen.

while I generally agree that he should get more time based on the extent of this scheme, I think you're underselling the impact of that lifetime probation, which again, you don't normally see

no more alcohol, can't go to bars, if he wants to spend the night away from home or travel more than 50 miles he has to get an okay from his parole officer, those restrictions apply for the rest of his life after release, and he'll be registered as a sex offender with all of the baggage that carries, this is not like the typical sentence where he's gonna serve his time and then be free to do as he pleases, this will have a major impact on the rest of his life

There will certainly be other restrictions that haven't been publicized and a violation of any will likely get the book thrown at him, you could argue that should happen now, and I'd probalby agree. It also sounded like some of the cases weren't incredibly strong, particularly the ones where the victim didn't come forward until there was already a lot of publicity. Then you've got the fact that a trial would force the victims to relive a very traumatic experience. It also sounds like he's going to testify against the other defendants, who have plead not guilty, and getting convictions against them may depend on getting Sharper's testimony. I'm not saying I wholeheartedly approve of this deal, but I do think it's hard to really bash the deal when you're as far removed from the proceedings as we are.

I will also add that unless the prosecutors are completely incompetent buffoons this deal would not have gone through without the consent of every one of the victims and I have some trouble calling for harsher punishment than what the victims agreed was appropriate.

No such thing as cruel and unusual punishment for a rapist, imo.

I disagree. What separates us (at least in theory) from the shitty countries is that we can be restrained when punishing even the worst of us.

What separates us from the shitty countries is money.

The worst of us deserve the worst. The law and judicial system are a jumbled mess that'll never work perfectly and setting crazy precedents like offing someone for rape will never happen or be enforced to 100% perfection. That being said, proven rapists and murderers deserve torture+death.

idc that it's not a realistic expectation, it's what they deserve. If there's a way to legally fuck with his junk, do it. He gave up the right to be treated like a human being when he ruined the lives of 9 women.

Darren Sharper got off way too lucky. What he deserves is life, no parole, and neutering.

As brutally as we want to see the worst criminals punished, the Eighth Amendment of our own Constitution prohibits it. It's too easy to blur the line between justice and revenge.

Well, those women deserve revenge against Darren Sharper 10 times more than he deserves to face the full extent of that incredibly vague and far too malleable thing we call "justice."

That "justice" is the only thing preventing vigilante revenge or government-run executions. There is a reason we are considered a "first world country."

as I said before, this plea deal wouldn't have even come before the court if those women hadn't already approved of the terms
