Brandon Albert to hit FA

Recommended Posts

610 Sports Radio in Kansas City reports the Chiefs plan to let LT Branden Albert walk in free agency and have no intentions of re-signing him.

Signs have pointed to this for a while. The Chiefs took Eric Fisher with the No. 1 pick last April and had designs of trading Albert, only for a deal to never come to fruition. Fisher should slide over to left tackle in 2014. Donald Stephenson, who started eight games in 2013, will get the first crack at the right tackle job. Albert is our No. 3 free-agent tackle. Per 610 Kansas City's Danny Parkins, Albert is expected to draw interest from the Cardinals and Dolphins once he hits the market on March 13. Arizona's interest is one of free agency's worst-kept secrets, while Miami tried trading for Albert last spring.

Albert has an injury history and has never really been all that good. I wouldn't re-sign him if I was the Chiefs. They have Fisher now. He sucked last year but he was a rookie. At least he won't cost as much as Albert.

I actually think Albert has been a really good left tackle for the last 3-4 years. I can understand why you wouldn't want to pay him after spending the #1 pick on a LT. But given Fisher's play in 2013, it will be interesting to see how things go once he's gone.
