I thought the best player should win the job? Isn't that the hardcore NFL attitude you were espousing a minute ago?

If they equal it should go to the young guy. If Cassel was clearly better it should have gone to him. I do think Teddy is better but also the fact that he's younger and has upside helps make the call.

Bridgewater is the better player, imo. Cassel looks better because he's throwing to Kyle Rudolph, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Greg Jennings. Teddy Bridgewater has been throwing to guys who are gonna get cut.

I think you're saying two different things. Start the player who is better now or start the player who has potential to be better in time?

This is a reasonable argument.

For what it's worth, I would also side with Teddy. But I can see a way that starting Cassel now helps in the long term.

What's the benefit of starting Cassel now? It's not like they're throwing Bridgewater to wolves if they stick him out there. He has a great RB, a good young TE a potentially great WR, franchise LT. Bortles on the other hand...bad line. No run game and a bunch of talented but very young WR's. I'm saying I think Teddy is better but the fact that it's even close when, like Bware said, Teddy is playing with a bunch of guys who will be cut should say it all. You start the guy who will get better as the year goes on.

Like I said.. the benefit of making this decision (that I would consider wrong) could well be that they end up with a better pick and are even more equipped to start succeeding in 2015 (when Teddy starts to come into his own). This is the potential silver lining.

Well then I guess we're in agreement that that would be retarded? lol

This is like an NBA mindset and I totally disagree with it when it comes to the NFL. The best player should win the job. You play to win the game. The Packers are far from dominant, especially when they're forced to play without Aaron Rodgers and it's pretty much a given that he'll miss a game or two a year at least. Adrian Peterson can carry this offense to the playoffs when they're not completely one dimensional.

how do you figure? from when Rodgers took over the starting role in '08 through '12 Rodgers missed two regular season games one of which was week 17 in 2011 after the Packers had clinched their playoff spot, don't let last year skew your perspective, Rodgers is not an injury risk

First Chargers game I was able to watch all the way through due to work and Seattle being godly/

:Chargers:

Our running backs are going to kill it this year. That trio of Mathews, Brown, and Woodhead....Marion Grice looked ok, Oliver was very meh compared to the way the Chargers forum was hyping him up.

First team defense looked good. Liuget was an absolute monster. Liked what I saw from Melvin Ingram and Jarrett Johnson. Kendall Reyes is still looking very questionable, also super hyped on the Chargers message board. Really enjoyed Kavell Conner at inside linebacker he had 3 or 4 big hits, one in which he cracked Frank Gore. Backups looked pretty bad, so the depth just isnt there yet defensively. On paper though our defense could be greatly improved this season if we stay relatively healthy, NT is a concern at the moment with all of our injuries.

Brad Sorenson, our third string QB and also super hyped on the Chargers message board (seeing a theme here?) looked absolutely shocking. Clemens and Rivers didn't play much but I thought both looked good. We actually called a read option with Rivers which was comical to say the least. :yao:

Would love to see one of or both Tevin Reese and Dontrelle Inman make our squad at WR, thought Vincent Brown was shocking last season and obviously I'd prefer to have one of them over a terrible 3rd string QB.

:49ers:

Thought Kaepernick looked bad. He has the worst hard count I've ever seen. Not to mention his fumbles. I am interested to see who wins their backup QB spot...Gabbert put together a decent drive.

Their first team defense looked good. Stopped the Chargers on a 4th and 1. Beautiful tackling all across the board but specifically Reid and Willis. Thought Culliver looked real good in coverage.

Was really impressed with Bruce Ellington in the second half....along with Carlos Hyde, who I wasn't big on. Dude looked like a beast and the heir to Frank Gore. His play may have been exacerbated by the Chargers poor tackling but he looked awesome nonetheless.

Good run down.

I'd add that on nearly every crucial running play by our starters, Gates got blown up by Aldon Smith. He should not be blocking.

Oliver had a great game against Dallas. Hasn't done much since.

At NT, sounds like Lissemore and Geathers will be fine for week one so we should be OK.

Hoping to find a stouter run defender to platoon at LE with Reyes.

Haven't been able to be around much, so let's make it a long one...

Other than injuries there hasn't been much not to like about the Broncos through the first three pre-season games. We've looked very strong against top opponents on both sides of the ball, and areas where I was expecting weakness haven't looked too bad at all. Most notably running the ball. Hillman didn't look awful, CJ Anderson made a few plays, Montee played some good Ball in his limited reps in the last game coming off surgery. All pale in comparison to Juwan Thompson. If he doesn't make the team I am gonna mail John Elway a bag of shit.

BrokenCleanBlackfly.gif

He's made plays everytime he's been on the field. Big back who is way quicker than he looks... and man he can deliver a pounding at 225-230 lbs. The fact that we don't carry a FB may allow us to carry 4 backs, but we also like to carry and extra TE, so I'm not sure... just can't see how he doesn't make the team over what the other backs have done.

There are no words for the impact of having Ryan Clady back. We're almost a different team with him in. He really needs to stay healthy. Orlando Franklin hasn't looked too bad so far inside, I really feel it's a more natural spot for him. His lack of athleticism to handle quick pass rushers was made brutally evident last year.

Decker, as much as I liked him, is gonna be an afterthought. Sanders provides a speed element that he couldn't, and I think Latimer will be getting more and more involved as he learns the offense. Losing Welker for any length of time in the regular season is going to hurt, but I'm also pretty bummed about Jordan Norwood's torn ACL. He looked like he had really settled in and already had some good chemistry. More importantly though he had all but locked down the returner job, and now that spot is a toss up.

I thought the defense has looked great, especially our d-line play. Most importantly it's just great to see Von, Big Vick, Derek Wolfe, and Rahim all back out on the field and looking healthy. Rahim looks to be 100% after the scary compartment syndrome stuff, his speed is definitely back and was sorely missed. Can't say anything bad about the big FA signings. Nate Irving has played great at MLB, something I was rather concerned about. Losing Trevathan is absolutely devastating though. The one thing that's interesting about Brandon Marshall (the LB) filling in for him, is that he already has the communication helmet and is relaying plays on the field. Seems like a good sign.

As much as it pains me, Osweiler has looked decent too. I can actually see a lot of improvement from last year, he seems to be going through progressions and getting the ball out faster than he used to. It's still hard to judge him too much without playing with the ones. Really disappointed Dysert hasn't gotten much playing time, I genuinely think he's an all-around better player than Brock.

Main area of concern now is special teams. Coverage team hasn't been great, and the returner spot is very much in flux, which will likely lead to Omar Bolden making the team yet again despite being a horrible football player. Prater hasn't been Prater so far, and he'll be out now till week 6 because of his ridiculous suspension and our bye week.

Happy so far, but I'm anxious for meaningful football to start.

Haha, I didn't pay attention there but I bet. Gates did look good in the passing game at least.

I think we really lucked out with Geathers, that injury looked like it could've been bad. In regards to Reyes, we could do what the Steelers are probably going to do and thats play Cam Thomas at DE; so we could play Geathers or Carrethurs at RDE on running downs and just play Reyes as a pass rush specialist.

@MHG, I think you should mail Elway a bag of dogshit regardless :yao:

Packers backup QB battle...

QB A

47.4% Completion, 232 Yards, 6.1 YPA, 3 TD, 1 INT, 82 Rating

QB B

67.9% Completion, 477 Yards, 8.5 YPA, 3 TD, 0 INT, 112 Rating

Hmmm, who is who... And I wonder which one I would pick to backup Aaron Rodgers. If QB A is on the roster after final cuts, I will be very very upset. Go away. FOREVER.

Ok so QB A is clearly Brett quarterbacking the scout team against the high school football team that he coaches.

So that means QB B is.... Bart Starr? Is he still starting for the Montgomery Alabama Senior Society Football Team? What are they called again? The "Continents?" They have that motto: "We can hold our shit!"

Got done watching a lot of Carr. Was really impressed with him this preseason. I put almost no stock in numbers in the preseason, but he did look very impressive. Some of his throws are just crazy beautiful.

Looked a little more comfortable in the pocket, but that's his biggest question mark imo. Wouldn't start him just yet, but he's already better then Schaub. Who looked like he had no idea what was going on half the time...
