Do they want to? They sit alone at the top of the FCS, which they would never do in the FBS.

Doubt they bring in the revenue a major conference would want.

that's a fair point, I obviously can't speak for them but personally I'd want to be in the best conference I could be competitive in, they've established dominance at the FCS level with four straight titles and a record of 112-30 since moving to Division I in 2004, so it seems like it's time to move on, it's also worth noting that Georgia Southern won the Sun Belt Conference this year in its first season in FBS, so immediate success isn't unheard of

Doubt they bring in the revenue a major conference would want.

this is a good point, but I can say after talking with an NDSU alum last night that they draw talent from all of North Dakota and most of Northern Minnesota and there are no FBS teams closer than the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and there are none in North or South Dakota or Montana, which makes this seem like an untapped market, then again all four professional leagues have a similar gap, so maybe there's a reason for that

I don't think even Fargo is a big enough market for a major conference to consider picking them up. Just don't see them as a great fit at the next level.

Fargo is bigger than Manhattan, KS (KSU), among others. The FM metro is well over 150,000 people, so the entire community would easily be big enough.

Didn't know Fargo had 150,000 people. Honestly, I've been there but I thought it was "big" in the sense that its the biggest cities in the Dakotas, lol.

Fargo itself has about 105,000. West Fargo has 25,000ish, and Moorhead has something like 38,000. It's a combination of all those communities, and then you have the factor in the smaller towns right next to it like Dilworth, etc. There are a lot of places in that bigass area.

Fargo is a steadily growing, beautiful city. D1A is certainly possible, but I think the biggest thing holding them back right now is simply not wanting to jump the ship too soon.
