Turry 755 Posted August 17, 2015 NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Bucs RT Demar Dotson will miss "roughly six weeks" with an MCL sprain. He won't be ready for Week 1, and based on the timeline, the earliest possible return for Dotson is probably Week 3. While an MCL sprain is better news than an ACL tear, it's a huge blow to a Tampa Bay offensive line that again projects as one of football's worst. Dotson is the team's best pass protector. Tight end Julius Thomas (hand) and strong safety Johnathan Cyprien (finger) wore balky casts over their right hands while watching practice. Both were injured Friday against Pittsburgh and are out for the preseason. The Jaguars are confident Thomas and Cyprien will be available Sept. 13 against Carolina. Dr. Steven Shin, Director of Hand Surgery at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles said that’s a realistic goal. Shin said the area of Thomas’ injury – top of the hand and below the knuckle – will speed up his recovery. “The blood supply to that area of the hand is pretty good and the bone in that area tends to heal very quickly,” Shin said. Shin said Thomas shouldn’t have to wear any heavy protection on the hand when he returns to the field save for a small pad. “By that point, hopefully he’ll be able to not have to wear anything but the soft padding,” Shin said. “If he were to have to wear a hard cast across the knuckle joint, that would be very difficult for him to have any flexibility and catch passes.” The Jaguars sent Thomas to have a computerized tomography (CT) scan on Saturday. “Sometimes, you can’t see the fracture very well on an X-Ray, especially if it’s a hairline fracture,” Shin said. “And with the CT scan, they could check for a ligament or tendon injury.” As for Cyprien, Shin said the injury is a little more complex because it is above a knuckle joint. “For him [against Carolina], the minimum would be a cast that covers the index and middle fingers and comes down below the wrist,” Shin said. “Every day and every week, the bone will get stronger and stronger. After about six weeks, he should be able to play without a cast.” Because Cyprien plays defense, he should be able to function with a cast. So basically Julius prob gonna be completely fine by Week 1 but Cyprien's bad angle taking, missing tackles ass is gonna have a cast on his hand? Weak. Released by the offensive line-challenged Colts in late July, Cherilus was passed over by the similarly tackle-needy Bills and Lions in ensuing free agent tryouts. The 31-year-old graded out as one of the worst offensive tackles in football last season, per PFF's charts. Cherilus does address a need in Tampa Bay, where the team recently lost RT Demar Dotson to a six-week MCL injury. The Bucs are going to (again) field one of the NFL's worst O-Lines. A 2014 second-round pick, Britt struggled to block on the perimeter throughout his rookie year as well as in Seattle's preseason opener. Guard was always his ideal position from a dimensions standpoint; Britt is a good-not-great athlete with short arms. Garry Gilliam is now being tried at right tackle, where he will compete with Alvin Bailey, who was previously playing left guard. Chiefs LT Eric Fisher was carted off the field with an ankle injury in Monday's practice, and will undergo an MRI. It's not a given that Fisher's injury is serious, but "cart" and "MRI" are never a good combination. Chiefs RT Jeff Allen is already sidelined with an MCL sprain. Donald Stephenson would likely man the blindside were Fisher to miss regular season games. From the Seahawks, Lockett was explosive in the return game, and Frank Clark also made a splash fumble play and then 4 tackles as well. He definetely looks to be like a better pass rusher than Bruce Irvin, so it feels good knowing we have 3 quality ends right now and Bruce Irvin can stick to linebacker things. Rookie wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who the Seahawks traded up to select in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft, averaged 45.6 yards on four kick returns From around the league, Nelson Agholor, Devin Funchess, and Ameer Abdullah all blew up pretty good obviously. Spiller underwent a knee scope recently and hasn't practiced the past 7-10 days. We're not going to see him during the preseason, but Spiller has been in the Saints' running-back room digesting the playbook and taking mental reps. A second-year sixth-round pick out of Boise State, Paradis spent his rookie year on the practice squad. The good news is Gino Gradkowski has lost the job and won't be Peyton Manning and C.J. Anderson's center. The bad news is Paradis is at-best an unknown who walked on in college and is short on athleticism. The Broncos may have to scheme their way around a shaky O-Line this season. He's a little behind though because he was dealing with some injuries and has been knocking some rust off while other guys are really showing their worth. So ya, I think he's not in the greatest of spots right now, but he has lots of time. He needs to stay healthy though, because from a pure talent perspective, he probably wins that 3rd RB spot hands down. Alonzo Harris and Raijon Neal though are making him work for it. In other hilarious Broncos news: Kubiak halts Broncos practice because of fights, 'selfish' behavior ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- One player took his helmet off and threw it to the ground after a dropped pass. Several others engaged in fights, including one skirmish that saw a player lift his teammate up slamming him hard against the ground. Team drills were marred by smack talk and some lack of attention to detail. After a while on Wednesday, Denver Broncos coach Gary Kubiak had seen enough. Kubiak called a halt to practice, ordered the entire team to a midfield huddle and told them to start the entire session over. And this time, he said, get it right. "The message today was I don't want see things selfish on the football field," Kubiak said. "When you go out to work, it's going to be good. There's going to be mistakes. That's part of football. But we can never get selfish as a team and do things that will cost us games. I felt like we were that way a little bit early in practice but we regrouped and practiced hard and hopefully we learned some things. "And hopefully you learn those things on the practice field and they don't bite you during a game." Tight end Owen Daniels, who was coached by Kubiak when they were both in Houston and Baltimore, said he's seen Kubiak step in before to get an unruly practice under control and re-emphasize the point of the workouts: getting better individually and as a team. "I think he just wants us to do it right every day, not getting caught up in being selfish, get into fights and taking unnecessary hits on guys," Daniels said. "He's not afraid to do that [stop practice]. He's done it plenty of times. He wants us to handle things properly and practice the right way so we can get better." The grind of training camp could be wearing on players. The Broncos have been going at each other for the last three weeks. They have one more formal session on Thursday before technically "breaking" camp, though the Broncos, like many other teams now hold their camp and final preparations for the regular season at their own practice facility instead of going offsite. "I don't know how camp changes anymore because you're in the same place," Kubiak said. "We're tired of each other and tired of working against each other. But it's kind of a good sign, too. They're battling. I like when they do it and they get on top of it, but that's my job also. Like I said, we settled down and practiced well." He started and played the entire first half. Taylor was sharp and efficient, ripping off chunk gains with his legs and flashing plus accuracy on difficult throws. He nearly threw a touchdown pass to WR Deonte Thompson on third-and-nine midway through the second quarter, but Browns S Johnson Bademosi had good coverage to break it up. Taylor certainly didn't hurt himself in Buffalo's quarterback competition tonight, consistently moving the offense despite missing all of the Bills' big-time skill-position players. Expect the Taylor-Matt Cassel battle to extend into the Bills' third preseason game. Aug 20 - 9:38 PM _______________ Per Rotoworld.com: Josh McCown completed 7-of-10 passes for 57 yards and two interceptions in the Browns' second preseason game Thursday night. Two picks in only three possessions of work. Looking every bit the abominable quarterback who made 11 starts for the Buccaneers last year, McCown frequently panicked in the pocket and was intercepted on a tipped pass on Cleveland's opening drive. McCown was picked again on a brutal decision late in the down on the Browns' second drive, throwing a 50-50 ball to 5-foot-7 Andrew Hawkins. Both passes were intercepted by Bills rookie CB Ronald Darby. The Browns seemingly love McCown, so we suspect he must look good in practice. Since leaving Chicago at the end of the 2013 season, McCown has been consistently horrific in actual games.
