Crazy. I figured Aldon wouldn't sign a contract until the 2016 free agency period. Low risk/potentially high reward perhaps?

Mack and Aldon playing at their highest potential is pretty scary to think about if it were to happen, IMO.

If you are saying Aldon is a product of another player's production...

Keep in mind who already is on the Raiders front 7

Tuck, Jelly, Dan Williams, Mack, Edwards, Lofton, RayRay, Malcolm Smith..add Aldon in there and I'm sure he could do something.

What's the status with him? Is he suspended or something?

He hasn't been given a suspension yet. His DUI case still needs to be resolved first.

Seems like if he's reprimanded it should for more than just a couple games. It was at least his third run-in with the law since being in the league. Pretty juicy deal for Oakland anyway. Lovie Smith's squad sounds more tempting football wise, but remaining in the Bay area where your support is makes sense.

Didn't say he was a product of another player's production. Said he was a product of Justin Smith's production.

Raiders are better for having him either way, if he indeed does play.

Smith is coming along nicely. He was an effective run stopper in San Fran as well. Pairing him with Mack potential wise could be deadly later in the season.

NFL suspended Raiders OLB Aldon Smith one year for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports it's for Smith's involvement in an "August 28 incident." Smith was released by the 49ers after an early-August DUI. The August 28 incident is unknown. What's not unknown is Smith's pattern of destructive off-the-field behavior. He has put himself and many others in danger with repeated alcohol-related incidents. A year away from the field is going to be extremely challenging for the 26-year-old pass rusher. He won't gain automatic reinstatement upon the ban's end. Unless he's turned his life around, it's possible Smith never plays another NFL snap. If there's one positive, it that's the Raiders plan to "stick with" Smith through his suspension, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

So does Aldon Smith get a six-strike rule or something? Only a year seems lenient after all the shit he's done.

Yet Greg Hardy is abusing women and playing. Makes sense, Goodell.

Greg Hardy wont ever get any media deals and I doubt he goes anywhere else. He will spend all of his money after he retires and end up a loser, so.....

I don't give a damn. The wild inconsistencies of the the NFL's joke of a 'justice' system must be stopped. It's fucking bullshit that he is playing right now and Aldon is given a year? The fuck kind of bullshit is that.

Suspended Raiders OLB Aldon Smith's contract will not toll to 2016.

It means he will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. Of course, interest will be minimal in a player who can't even apply for reinstatement until next November. Smith turns 27 next September. Another off-the-field issue could mean the end of his NFL career.

to be fair, Hardy has had one major incident, it's certainly worse than anything Smith has done when Smith's incidents are taken individually, but at this point Smith is getting punished for the pattern of behavior, we're talking about a guy who's been arrested five times in a span of about three and a half years, the guy's lucky he's not in jail at this point

An arrest warrant has been issued for free agent LB Nick Moody for failing to appear in court Friday in Miami.

He was due in court to assure a judge that he would travel to California to take the stand in former teammate Aldon Smith's DUI trial, which is expected to begin on May 2. Instead, Moody has gone off the grid, ignoring all calls, text messages and emails from prosecutors. The 26-year-old could be held in contempt of court. Moody appeared in three games for Seattle last year before suffering a torn ACL. He's already facing a four-game suspension for an unknown violation.

ESPN's Ed Werder reports the NFL is investigating a Periscope video which allegedly shows Raiders suspended OLB Aldon Smith smoking an unidentified substance.

The video is titled "Fire up session" and shows a lit, hand-rolled cigarette. While Smith's face is not seen on the video in question, his voice is clearly heard, and the post comes from an account which featured Smith on camera several times. A woman astutely warns Smith he should not be posting the video, but Smith says it is fine because "they don't have my name." He then says his name at the end of the video. Already suspended until at least November, this situation is unlikely to earn Smith any more fans in the league office.

Looks like someone will be getting a "random" drug test soon! :yao:

Per Rotoworld.com:

TMZ Sports reports suspended Raiders OLB Aldon Smith is under investigation in California for a "domestic incident."
Smith was not reinstated during the 2016 season -- a decision made by the NFL that was not well received by the Raiders -- and he now may be in trouble again. Details are vague, however. Per TMZ, cops were called to a home in San Francisco where Smith was questioned along with an "alleged victim." Expect more information to surface about the incident over the next few hours and/or days. Feb 13 - 5:38 PM
