Jags give hollow 1 year extension to Gus Bradley (+staff)

Recommended Posts

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Gus Bradley is no longer on a one-year deal.

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that the head coach signed a one-year extension through

2017 on Friday. The squad also confirmed the promotion of defensive coordinator Todd Wash.

“For an organization that we believe is ready to make its move, extending Gus through the 2017 season provides our club with much-needed stability in every respect,” said General Manager Dave Caldwell. “It solidifies Gus’ good standing with our current players, provides certainty for free agents who may be considering the Jaguars and helps to deliver the continuity throughout our coaching staff that we think is critical for us to turn the corner. It also gives us the best opportunity to win in 2016. I appreciate Shad supporting this approach as we enter a pivotal season with high expectations at every level of the organization.”

Bradley initially signed a four-year contract to be the head coach of the Jaguars. He has produced a 12-36 record in his time in Jacksonville.

Wash, who has coached with Bradley on one college and three NFL teams, was promoted from defensive line coach to defensive coordinator.

Along with those two moves, the team announced the promotions of Tony Sorrentino to assistant wide receiver coach and Aaron Whitecotton to assistant defensive line coach.

The team also hired former NFL safety Daniel Bullocks as the team's assistant defensive backs coach. Bullocks played for the Detroit Lions from 2006 to 2009 and coached at Northern Iowa and Eastern Michigan prior to joining the Jacksonville coaching staff.

So apparently they were always going to do this. They hinted at it. Which we thought was insane but they weren't lying. Also, that report of the Jags not even offering Schwartz the job actually might be true. Which is even more insane. They were always going Wash I guess. Who... seems like a much better coach than Babich but is a first time DC in a make-or-break year. Guess Gus is gonna be more involved too. I dunno man.

Doesn't mean anything. He'll still be gone, regardless, if this next season doesn't go well.

Be glad you didn't hire Schwartz. Your d-line isn't even the same universe as what is needed for his schemes to be successful. If he doesn't get other worldly play out of his d-line his defense will be trash.
