Wild Speculation Thread

It's unfair for Hackenberg to shoulder the blame for one of the most atrocious lines out there and a coach who failed to utilize him right. If teams are scared of him they aren't confident enough in themselves.

Of course it is. But you still do it. It's what leaders do.

TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline reports Ohio State DE Joey Bosa "is still very much in the mix" for the Titans at No. 1 overall.

Pauline said the Titans are "leaning toward taking" Laremy Tunsil, but some believe "it’s a coin flip between Tunsil and Bosa." The Titans also sent a horde of decision makers to watch Florida State DB Jalen Ramsey's Pro Day on Tuesday. Bosa is not a great fit in the Titans' 3-4 scheme, and he would seem the least likely of the three to be taken at No. 1. Considering Tennessee's clear desire to trade down, they could be leaking interest in several players in an attempt to force a trade. If they end up making the first pick, Tunsil is still the odds-on favorite.

Ya, if you are quick to shift the blame at the college level... I wouldn't be the most comfortable when everything hits the fan in the pros. What is the excuse going to be when he plays poorly in the NFL? Who will he blame? How will you respond? Those are huge questions -- especially for the potential face of your franchise.

Hit the nail on the head, you have to remember that as a QB this guy is going to have a microphone in front of him after every single game, you can't have a guy who's prone to throw other people under the bus. You also have to keep in mind that everyone he's talking to knows the struggles, they've watched enough tape to know that he's playing behind a shit oline and I guarantee you they're taking that into account in their evaluation. Nobody asked the question because they didn't know what caused the dropoff, they asked to see whether he would shoulder any of the blame.

ESPN's Adam Caplan reports "many execs and coaches" around the league believe Cal's Jared Goff is "more ready to play" than North Dakota State's Carson Wentz.

This really isn't a surprise since Goff is coming out of the Pac-12 while Wentz must make the adjustment from the FCS. Both players have prototypical size, though Wentz's hands are bigger and his arm stronger. Signs suggest the Browns will be choosing between the two signal callers at No. 2 overall.

NFL.com reports that UCLA LB Myles Jack's right knee is "fully healed," but that he's unlikely to run the 40-yard dash before the draft.

"He's close, but he's not totally ready, and I'm not gonna let him go out there and run an average time," Jack's agent said. Those words, of course, suggest Jack isn't "fully healed," after all. Jack tore his meniscus in September. It's a bit of a red flag that he doesn't feel 100 percent comfortable sixth months after the fact. Jack is still widely expected to be one of the first 10 players off the board in next month's draft.

The Titans, holders of the first pick in the draft, will have a chance to make a deal. The Titans have received significant interest in the pick. I believe it is now 50-50 whether Tennessee will trade it or keep it. Rookie GM Jon Robinson is going to have to decide whether to accept an offer—presumably by a team that wants one of the top two quarterbacks in the draft, Carson Wentz of North Dakota State or Cal’s Jared Goff—or to stay at number one and pick a player the Titans believe will be a cornerstone for years to come.
The leaders in the clubhouse for Tennessee are Laremy Tunsil, the Mississippi tackle, and defensive back Jalen Ramsey of Florida State. The Titans have a couple other players they’re seriously considering—aside from Tunsil and Ramsey, a Tennessean who really wants to play close to home—but those two are the most logical.
A defensive back has been picked first overall only one time in the history of the NFL, in 1956. But understand these reasons why times are changing in the NFL. Last season the NFL saw new records set for touchdown passes allowed (842), completion rate for quarterbacks (.630) and passer rating (90.2). Ramsey became an interesting X factor for those reasons, and because the Titans are so desperate for help at both tackle and corner.
The pick will probably come down to Tunsil or Ramsey for Tennessee. Both will visit the Titans in the coming weeks, and that will provide more clarity. It’s been thought that Tunsil was more logical, but there are a few things making Tennessee do more homework on him. He is a natural left tackle, to be sure. But he isn’t a classic downhill left tackle, which the Titans want; they just traded for bullish back DeMarco Murray and want to run the ball significantly. And players with history in a college spread offense, like Tunsil, have to adjust, and that’s no sure thing.
The NFL, as the Pro Football Focus numbers show, has transitioned into more of a three-down passing league. Ramsey had only three interceptions in the past three college seasons at Florida State, but he seems the most pro-ready corner in this draft. He’s a 6-1, 210-pound specimen with the ability to cover the kind of big receivers the league is fielding today. He can play cornerback, he can move inside and cover the slot receiver, and he can play a centerfield kind of safety if need be. He’s the kind of versatile defensive back every coach wants. The Titans have a crying need at tackle, after allowing more sacks than any other team in football last fall. But they also need a corner and a nickel defender, and defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau would froth at the chance to use a player with the blitzing and tackling skills of Ramsey.
So … do not assume Tennessee is locked into Tunsil. Robinson certainly could take him. But the top of the draft is in flux, and I will not be surprised if in the next three weeks the Titans move the pick for an additional high pick or picks—even though there’s not the Andrew Luck or Marcus Mariota out there for a team to move up and grab. But there are teams like San Francisco or Los Angeles or Philadelphia that might want a quarterback, and might be desperate enough to overpay for the top pick.

ESPN's Paul Kuharsky did an interesting blog post on potential trades a few days ago: A look at three trade scenarios for Tennessee Titans and No. 1 pick

he looks at potential trades with the Browns (#2), 49ers (#7), and Rams (#15) based on a couple different trade value charts, that should give you some idea

Ravens director of college scouting Joe Hortiz said Ohio State edge player Joey Bosa is athletic enough to play outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme.

Bosa profiles best as a 4-3 end, but he could fit in well as an outside linebacker in the right 3-4 scheme. The Ravens run one such scheme, and Bosa would be a serious consideration for them at No. 6 overall if he falls that far. Bosa is a lock to come off the board in the top 10.

Better plan to have one 3-4 OLB who is only a pass rusher then.

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah "won't be surprised" if Notre Dame WR Will Fuller is the first wide receiver drafted later this month.

Jeremiah has close connections to NFL teams and has been offered high-ranking front office jobs in recent offseasons. What he's "hearing" is notable. The drawbacks on Fuller are his size limitations (6'0/186) and penchant for drops, stemming from small hands (8 1/4"). His strength is an ability to outrun coverage, blazing 4.32 at the Combine. Josh Doctson and Laquan Treadwell are more complete receivers. Fuller is better at popping the lid.

The only respectable players from OSU are Apple, Lee and Bell, too good players in their own right and made for the NFL.

The rest will bust miserably.

Baylor DE Shawn Oakman is the subject of a rape investigation.

The alleged incident took place Sunday morning. The victim had to be hospitalized, and reported the incident immediately. Police took evidence from Oakman's apartment on Sunday afternoon. Oakman has admitted to having sex with the accuser, but insists it was consensual. Oakman is considered a day-three prospect. He has a history of off-the-field issues, and was kicked off Bill O'Brien's Penn State team in 2012.

ATL is a bigot confirmed.

Fuck offense. Pussies have it so easy these days. Touch a WR past the LOS and it's either a hold or a DPI. Hit a QB a split second after he releases the ball? Oh 15 yard penalty.

Offenses know exactly what play they are running, too easy to do that. Most defenses have to adjust to what the offense is doing and that takes skill to have 11 players on the same page to stop the opposing team.

CBS Sports’ Jason LaCanfora reports the Bills are "enamored" with Ohio State QB Cardale Jones.

"The buzz I hear about Jones makes me think he could very well be their guy," said LaCanfora. "Their interest in him is strong." Buffalo held a private workout with Jones and he’s scheduled to make a pre-draft visit. With Tyrod Taylor in a contract year, the Bills view him as a potential 2017 starter. Jones has been trending up since the Combine, with some not expecting him to make it out of the second round. WKBW’s Joe Buscaglia believes a "marriage between the sides makes a lot of sense."
