Reportedly the Vikings and Greenway have come to terms on a 1 year deal, which will be his last with the Vikings and as a pro.

And hopefully he spends most of it on the sideline because Barr and Kendricks stay healthy.

The guy is a mere shell of what he once was. He's no longer a sure tackle and has lost a good amount of his speed. Glad he'll retire a Viking, though.

Free agent WLB Chad Greenway said he will not play for any team other than the Vikings.

Greenway played this season under the impression it would be his last, but he has yet to make a final decision. Greenway said he will meet with GM Rick Spielman and coach Mike Zimmer this week, and that meeting could push him toward retirement if it is clear the Vikings do not want him back. The former first-round pick has likely played his final snap in the NFL.

Minnesota Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway to retire

Chad Greenway is ending his 11-year NFL career.

The Minnesota Vikings announced Monday that the linebacker would announce his retirement at a press conference on Tuesday. The news conference will take place at noon ET.

Greenway played his entire career in Minnesota, ranking fourth in franchise history with 1,334 tackles, according to the team. In 156 career games, the 34-year-old compiled 18 regular-season sacks, 32 passes broken up and 11 interceptions.

An anchor of the Vikings defense for a decade, the 2006 first-round pick earned two Pro Bowl selections and was named team defensive MVP three times in his career.

Greenway was praised as much for his off-field work as his on-field ferocity. The linebacker received accolades from his community service. He created the Lead The Way Foundation, which enhances education and health opportunities for children and families in need. In 2007, Greenway was named the Vikings' Ed Block Courage Award winner after returning from a season-ending knee injury suffered during his rookie season.

Greenway had been contemplating retirement since the end of the season, ahead of potential free agency, but said he had no plans to play anywhere other than Minnesota.

Cry me a river and I'll piss you a puddle, 'cause either I don't give a fuck or my compassion's too subtle.

This is the right decision. He's been a coverage liability the past 2-3 seasons, and had to have missed more tackles this past season than the prior 9 seasons combined.

Walk away before your effectiveness is completely gone. Good on Greenway for recognizing it.

I know, right? I remember watching him play in college -- a huge fan favorite. Makes me feel old, lol.

One of my favorites. Glad that he stuck with us for his whole career. Not often you get a player as effective as Greenway was in his prime that stays with the same team.
