As always, I go through the schedule, make my predictions RIGHT NOW and see how well I do after the fact. And I almost exactly tied my record from last year, if not for a tie game muddling up the numbers. I managed to get quite a few team's records exactly, and wildly off for everyone else without much in between. Culminating in the NFC East where I overestimated the Giants and Cowboys by 6 wins, underestimated the Redskins by the same number of games, and pegged the Eagles at 7-9. Put yeah, there's some cool factoids there, and I'm gonna type up my predictions for this season in a bit. Including playoff projections of course, but as always I expect to be horribly wrong (Giants> Patriots please.)

oochymp 2,393 Posted May 3, 2016 fair enough, just making sure I'm reading it right, you were really close on the Titans' overall record despite only getting one of our wins right, interesting

Thanatos 2,847 Posted May 4, 2016 I think this entire thing is crazy, but go for it Razor. I would say there is no way on earth Carolina loses three straight games to start division play. I would say there is no way on earth the Rams win the West and the Cards don't even make the playoffs. Stranger things have happened however.
RazorStar 4,025 Posted May 4, 2016 yeah the tiebreakers ended up biting the cards in the ass, I don't look at the standings as I go through the games until I tally them all up half way through and at the end. Rams winning the division based on winning division games made some sense, since those are the only games where they live up to their potential. Panthers I expect cannot maintain another 17-2 season, but I may be giving them too little credit with this free fall. Maybe. This does feel like a year of upheaval though, we could see some seriously strange shit.

Seahawks 31-26 Just for something to do, I'll offer my (ahem) humble opinion. Even if Pats are Brady-less for 4 weeks, I think they still win a minimum of 10. Browns will be lucky to win more than 5. Colts will win at least 9 and Jags will be improved, but they won't win more than 8. Panthers won't regress out of the playoffs - they still win 12. The rest are doable but of course there will be adjustments which I have not done.
RazorStar 4,025 Posted May 11, 2016 The Patriots are also short Chandler Jones and I think not having a top flight pass rusher is going to cause them some serious problems. Like I know Brady has been saying he's gonna play into his mid 40's, but that's just not feasible. The offensive line has been an issue as well, and while they have a lot of talent at the skill positions, something is just screaming collapse to me. Browns may be optimistic, but as I went through the schedule it was like "Yeah they could win this game. This one too. Holy shit are they competing for the playoffs?" They've got the NFC East and AFC East for out of division games, so that may be a few extra wins on their side. The Colts have always been an overachieving 8-8 team, and last year was the first year where their play matched their win total. 4-12 might be a little low, but they've definitely got a hard schedule to deal with, facing the AFC West and NFC North. And I will guarantee the Panthers win less than 12 games next year.

Cherry 1,302 Posted May 12, 2016 Nah. Broncos should win week 1. Anything at QB is better than Peyton. If Paxton and Booker start it should be a way better offense vs a weaker Panthers D. I'd say Panthers go 9-7 but rip division apart. Probably 5-1 in division with a loss to the Bucs.

Lynch was only drafted in the first round because Denver was desperate for a QB. And Peyton knew not to force things. This is game 1, Paxton will be eaten alive by a Panthers defense that will be better than last year. Heard it here first. And Carolina is finishing with no less than 11 wins. Cherry 1,302 Posted May 12, 2016 The Panthers aren't a team with massive amounts of talent. They're a good group with excellent chemistry, but they've made no improvement from last year. Paxton as a rookie is better than last year's Peyton. Literally everyone that Broncos could roll out is better than last year's Peyton. The Panthers on paper are going to get steamrolled by an improved version of last year's champs. Panthers have been at this boundary of being great for a few years. Hovering around 10 wins in an easy division. It wasn't until last year they really opened up. I personally think last year was a fluke.
BwareDWare94 723 Posted May 13, 2016 Flukes don't steamroll an entire conference. Their 2 playoff games were a joke. Good teams (albeit Seattle was a shell of themselves) that Carolina just destroyed. They will absolutely come down to earth this season because of an improved division but they're still a good team. oochymp 2,393 Posted May 13, 2016 Yeah, there'll be regression towards the mean. They had an incredibly weak schedule last year, not only did their whole division have an off-season, they also got to play the AFC South and NFC East, probably (okay, definitely) the two worst divisions last season. That said, I don't think anyone is expecting another 15-1 season and regression toward the mean doesn't mean they're gonna fall off a cliff.

No team repeats with a 15-1 record. It's never been done. Saying they won't reach 15 wins and claiming that makes them a fluke is silly. Carolina can easily reach 12, the rest depends on how much J-No's loss hurts the defense and KB's gain helps the offense. The Bucs have a terrible defense and an offense that fails to live up to the hype. The Falcons are mediocre through and through. The Saints are literally just Drew Brees. It's not a good division. There is a reason the Panthers have won the past few years straight. They also lost Josh Norman. I'm not saying I expect 15. But even 13 is pushing the limit. They faced one of the easiest schedules in the league last year in AFC South and NFC East. They're arguably the same team as last year or worse with the loss of Norman, though having Benji back should help. I'm not saying they are terrible or won't win division, but they aren't gonna be as dominant as before.
