Cherry's Gladiator Simulator V2: Make Dying Great Again

Recommended Posts

After spending about a year without the Gladiator Simulator, I've decided to bring back a revamped version that is sure to excite. The last version was too clunky and often pushed too much data into what should've been simple and clean. I have cut out the graveyard, the various houses, and a lot of the other bulk bullshit that bogged it down.

There is no longer a fight history page, as it just fills useless space on my Google Drive account. Instead there is a new Hall of Fame to document key moments and fights in the history of the game, along with legendary fighters.

I've also created a new spreadsheet and guideline book that will give structure behind the statistics of the game. No longer will a height and weight be tossed into a hit threshold and health amount based on a guess. It's written in stone (Google Sheets).

Let's take a look at the key features of the Gladiator Simulator. A refresher for old players, and an introduction for new ones.

Roles:

A player involved in the game can take on a variety of roles. This includes purchasing fighters to create a fighter stable, simply watching and enjoying as a spectator, betting on the fights to boost gold count, taking control as an emperor and deciding life or death for a losing fighter, or even creating a fighter and calling out the movements you would like to perform. Feel free to take on many of these roles as you play through the game. The various stages of the game all have their appeal.

Combat:

Combat comes in different types. There is one on one combat, which pits two gladiators against each other. Group combat, which pits multiple gladiators against each other on teams. Massacre combat, which pits multiple gladiators against each other without teams. Lastly there is Animal combat, which pits a gladiator (or gladiators) against an animal. Depending on the animal, it will be an incredibly tough fight to win. A lion will likely rip apart a group of gladiators with ease, so be careful when calling for Animal combat. It will probably end poorly for the gladiators sent in to fight.

In one on one combat, the pace of the fight is set using an initiative roll at the beginning of the fight. This is a simple d20 roll with the higher number striking first. In any other form of combat, there is an initiative roll on every set of turns. A player may strike at the end of a set of turns, then strike immediately afterwards as the first strike on the next set turns. It just depends. This helps to give combat a realistic feel, and mix things up rather than go in the same cycle.

The hit threshold is different now. Instead of needing a high roll to hit someone, you need a low roll. If a fighter has a hit threshold of 5, you need to roll a 5 or below to hit them, then roll for damage. Rolling a 1 on hit threshold does double damage. Rolling a 20 results in an immediate counter opportunity. Damage is still the same as before, with a 20 on damage being an instant kill regardless of the situation.

Market:

The market is used once every 5 cycles. This refreshes the fighters coming through the arena to keep from running out of fighters. Fighters can be bid on by players who want to build their own stable of fighters. The stat buff fighters are hidden and will only be revealed after being purchased.

Fighters can be purchased using the in-game currency of gold. For example, Malepe the Immortal is for sale in the market. Cherry starts the bidding at 50 gold. Vin wants Malepe and bids 100 gold. Razor wants him more. He bids 150 gold. Razor wins the bid. Malepe is a silver stats buff, and has a 20% boost to health stats. Vin is sad.

Every 5 cycles all players will receive a payment of 200 gold to get them going in the market. Save it. Spend it. Bet with it. Fuck it. I don't care what you do with your gold. If you want to hoard 2000 gold and blow it on some 6'9" giant go right ahead. If you want to hoard 2000 gold and blow it on some 5'3" midget go right ahead.

Feel free to ask any questions about the simulator. I'll start working out a time to do the first market with interested players. After the ten fighters are entered we can begin using the simulator. We will be using Google Drive chat to communicate during fights and markets. Below are the links. The first link is the chat which we will use for all events in the simulator world.

Do the opposite of what Vin does.

Really a lot of it is luck and smart betting. Whether that's betting on a gladiator in a single fight or purchasing a guy with hopes of making him one of the greatest.

Personally I'm a bigger fan of betting on the heavyweight guys over the smaller ones, but that's just my preference. I'd also try to snag up as many gladiators as possible on the off chance one of them has gold stats boosts.

And in the first fight of the new simulator, Vin and Cuda go back and forth with their new fighters. Not top of the line guys, but they put on a show. Vin sad after tasting defeat for the umpteenth time. Cuda hype for winning debut. Favre just giving the thumbs down and killing folks for using shields. We're back folks.

And in the second fight of the night, Favre thoroughly dominated Cuda through the first few moves, taking out 56 of his 70 HP. Cuda seemed destined for defeat. Then he ran through the net and chopped a head into ham cubes.
