Allen Hurns gets paid

Recommended Posts

Jaguars signed WR Allen Hurns to a four-year, $40 million extension through 2020.

The deal contains $20 million guaranteed, and Hurns can earn an additional $4 million through incentives. Undrafted out of Miami (FL) in 2014, Hurns earned a full-time role opposite Allen Robinson last season and exploded for the "garbage-time" Jaguars, parlaying 64 catches into 1,031 yards and ten touchdowns. Hurns will turn 25 this November. As he was signed for 2016 at just $600,000, Hurns is now under the Jags' control for the next five seasons at $40.6 million. Hurns is a prime regression candidate after last year's obscene touchdown rate, but he should still return solid WR3 value in re-draft leagues this season.

Gonna start throwing money around like the Eagles here soon.

Do they have Robinson under contract for awhile as well? If so, a solid pair of WRs for Bortles to throw to.

He is a FA after this season. Even if they sign him to a similar deal as Hurns, both guys will likely outplay their contracts anyway. Solid deal for the Jags.

Real solid deal for Jags cap and Hurns gets his due. A-Rob gonna command a lot more in his FA. Jags have ridiculous cap health so it's not even a concern.

Not a bad deal at all for the Jags. You sign the young talent you draft. That's how you get good. I mean contracts are usually pretty front loaded and like campin said they have cap space. If Hurns turns out to be a bust they can probably pretty safely cut him in a year or two. Both parties win here imo.

I agree with the sentiment, except Hurns was undrafted.

I think he was good enough to warrant an extension. Maybe not that, but a solid one. Undrafted or not he kicked ass.

Apparently this is the contract details and it's not as big of a contract as the headlines state (per usual in today's NFL, agents gotta broadcast the maximum possible of the deal to make themselves look better  )

For all intents and purposes though, as the Jaguars have done with a lot of their contracts under David Caldwell, the Hurns deal is basically a two-year deal for $16 million guaranteed with a series of three one-year deals.

Realistically, it's a five-year deal for $40 million with $16 million guaranteed. Not quite the $10 million average per year, but still a well earned deal for Allen Hurns.

The Jaguars could release Allen Hurns this offseason.

Hurns hasn't come close to living up to the five-year, $41 million deal he signed in 2016. He's missed 11 games the last two seasons and isn’t needed behind Dede Westbrook and Keelan Cole. Releasing Hurns would clear $7 million in cap space.

Life comes at you fast.
