JetsFan4Life 542 Posted June 14, 2016 Tough tough tough, but of course it would be at this point. I voted Magic because for what it's worth I honestly believe he is the best NBA player in history.
RazorStar 4,025 Posted June 14, 2016 Lemieux or Magic... hell of a final. Ended up taking Mario, but phew that was tough.
Bay 2,003 Posted June 14, 2016 Mario was basically on Gretzky's level if not matched. Gretzky and Jordan are considered the greatest offensive players ever, correct me If I'm wrong for NBA. Wayne and Mario basically had two points a game averaged in their career which is unreal. (WG 1.92, ML 1.88) Jordan averaged over 30 points a game for his career which is obviously outstanding. Jordan's playoff numbers are staggering. Only player to have over 30 points a game averaged. Mario is also second points per game in the playoffs only to Gretz. 1.83,1.60 respectively. I really don't know how dominant Magic was compared to Jordan.
oochymp 2,393 Posted June 15, 2016 (edited) Lemieux or Magic... hell of a final. Ended up taking Mario, but phew that was tough. it's interesting to me that the NFL rep isn't in the final, perhaps I overestimated the NFL bias of the board, or maybe it's just Magic, it would have been interesting to see what the impact would have been if I hadn't separated the sports initially Edited June 15, 2016 by oochymp
RazorStar 4,025 Posted June 15, 2016 NFL is the ultimate team sport though, when you have an incredible football player there is always the strength of the team argument and championships and all that, while the best hockey and basketball players tend to carry their teams to titles (or at the very least get credited for making a good team around them a great team). What Lemeiux and Magic have done have had a much larger impact on their sport than any one single football player has.
blotsfan 2,112 Posted June 15, 2016 I like how its 7-1 in both polls and JF4L is the contrarian in both.

oochymp 2,393 Posted July 12, 2016 I'd thought about including Tim Duncan in this from the start, but opted against it since he hadn't officially announced his retirement, now that he has I'd be curious to see how much differently the bracket would have gone. I don't think he would have beaten out Magic, but he'd definitely be up there.
RazorStar 4,025 Posted July 12, 2016 Well lets see. If we replace Joe Dumars with Tim Duncan. Does he beat Bill Russell in round 1? I'd say 60-40 he does Bracket becomes: 2. Bird vs. 16. West 3. Bryant vs. 11. Petit 4. Duncan vs. 10. Miller 5. Dr. J vs. 8. Magic Bird beats West Bryant beats Petit Duncan beats Miller Magic beats Erving To the final 4 Bird vs. Magic Bryant vs. Duncan Duncan probably loses here, but if not he'd lose to Magic in the next round.
