:Giants:

The NFL released a statement Friday afternoon on the situation involving Giants kicker Josh Brown and claims made by his now ex-wife that Brown had been physically violent with her more than 20 times.

The NFL’s statement explained that Brown’s ex-wife would not speak with league investigators and that law enforcement officers “declined” requests for information, leaving league investigators “insufficient information to corroborate prior allegations.”

The news of Brown’s one-game suspension seemingly came out of nowhere, and the league is saying that’s in part because those involved wouldn’t talk and only when records of one alleged incident came available could it examine that incident under the league’s personal conduct policy.

The full statement is as follows: “In May 2015, the NFL was informed by the New York Giants of Josh Brown’s arrest for an incident in his home involving his then wife. We began an investigation into the incident and circumstances surrounding it.

“In the course of the League’s investigation, our investigators became aware that his wife had filed a statement with the county court alleging previous altercations between the spouses. However, despite multiple attempts to speak with her about this incident and her previous statements, she declined to speak with us. We understand that there are many reasons that might have affected her decision not to speak with us, but we were limited in our ability to investigate these allegations.

“Over the course of the 10-month investigation, we also made numerous requests — as late as this spring — to local law enforcement officers for information on the case and previous allegations. They declined those requests for information.

“As a result of these factors, our investigators had insufficient information to corroborate prior allegations. In addition, no criminal charges were brought forward regarding the incident in question or prior allegations. The NFL therefore made a decision based on the evidentiary findings around this one incident as provided to us by the District Attorney.

“The NFL made a finding that Mr. Brown had violated the Personal Conduct Policy. We did so based on the evidence of this one incident as presented in the police report, Mr. Brown and his wife’s statements to police that evening, and his statements in interviews with the NFL.

“The NFL Personal Conduct policy allows for discipline to be imposed even when criminal charges are not presented. It further allows for us to consider both aggravating and mitigating factors regarding discipline for domestic violence.

“After reviewing the evidence in this one incident, we imposed a one-game suspension for violation of the personal conduct policy.

“Mr. Brown and the NFLPA appealed this discipline, but the decision was upheld by a hearing officer.”

Seems a bit messy of a situation. The NFL's policy on suspending people with these issues seems a little inconsistent with this domestic incident than recent incident.

Now that the facts are coming to light I expect the league to retroactively increase his suspension as a response to public outcry.

When will the NFL realize that there is no suspension for people that beat their wives that will be criticized for being "too light"?

Giants signed K Randy Bullock, formerly of the Jets.

Bullock bounced between the Texans and Jets last year, ultimately replacing then-injured Nick Folk. Staying in New York with the NFC's version, Bullock will have a chance to kick for the G-Men during Josh Brown's one-game ban.

The NFL has re-opened its investigation into allegations of domestic abuse against Giants K Josh Brown.
Reports surfaced in August that Brown had been violent with his ex-wife over 20 times, but the NFL supposedly lacked any smoking gun evidence to impose more than a one-game ban. That evidence surfaced Thursday in the form of a disturbing admission from Brown himself in a police report. The NFL has to be regretting not taking harsher action sooner. Brown's roster spot is probably going to be toast.

Giants K Josh Brown will not travel with the team to London for its Week 7 game against the Rams.

Brown beat his wife multiple times, and new evidence came to light Wednesday night and more continues to come out Thursday. The NFL and the Giants said they were "unaware" of the new findings, but it's been revealed this afternoon that the league actually helped Brown's now-ex-wife switch hotel rooms at the Pro Bowl in January after a drunk Brown was pounding on the room door. Brown is certain to be released in the near future. Amazing that it hasn't happened yet.

Giants signed K Robbie Gould.

Released by the Bears ahead of Week 1, Gould is Chicago's all-time leading scorer and one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history, despite kicking half of his games in the Windy City. He replaces wife-beater Josh Brown, who the Giants left in the States on Thursday as they travel to London to face the Rams. Gould should be the Giants' kicker for the remainder of the season, though the Giants continue to drag their feet in refusing to cut Brown.

NFL is so hypocritical.

This dude should've been suspended when the first report happened last year.

I am not disagreeing, but if they don't suspend him more or do anything else there is going to be more outrage because they still haven't done anything. They did fail originally, but when it comes to public perception it's lose / lose at this point.

Yea the NFL really haven't handled this well. They set a president with Ray Rice and now all of a sudden then seem to want to bend a little. The Giants are in no way exempt from criticism either, they would have known about all this and Brown was lucky to be on the team as long as he has been after it first come out. They have both handled this badly.

the fact that he signed a new contract this offseason while this was pending is what really tips it over the edge to me

Josh Brown as a Giant has made 88 of 96 of his field goals. 23-26 in 2013. 24-26 in 2014. 30-32 in 2015. 11-12 so far in 2016.

If you're a football team with the utmost pressure to win, do you really care about your kicker's personal life? The media is just much less likely to dig into it like they would with a guy like Ray Rice.

I'm not condoning this in the slightest, but if the team gave any fucks they would have already booted the guy out. Instead they're just catering to the public now to avoid massive backlash.

That said, the league should've hit him with a 6 game suspension that followed league policy for first recognized offense.

Why are the Giants still standing behind this guy? Get rid of him.

Also him being on paid leave is completely ridiculous.

I'm usually a defender of Roger Goodell because I just don't give a shit if he's handing out fines for celebrations and whatever. When a situation comes up, that really deserves punishment, and nothing is done that is hard to defend.

If only the NFL would just use the 6 game suspension like they should.

But, the Giants and Mara are so classy...I don't believe they would do something like this.

I can understand the players standing behind their teammate. They don't know what goes on behind closed doors, and it's entirely possible that Brown is a good guy on the practice field. When you're on a team, you defend your guys to the pain. It's possible that it just isn't setting in that the dude is a wife beating asshole, it's just such a shock. As for the ownership... it's inexcusable considering they knew for a fact that he did this. The league doesn't give two wipes about domestic violence, they just want to bury it in the bushes with the spygate tapes and the research on CBE.
