oochymp 2,393 Posted October 28, 2016 Bortles may be the guy we point to for the next five years as exhibit A of "some guys just need to sit for a few years"
RazorStar 4,025 Posted October 28, 2016 Well there's a better candidate for that position in the same division. and by a few years, maybe like ten... and then retire.
BwareDWare94 723 Posted October 29, 2016 I still like Bortles and think he's a top half starter, but I have to wonder who's causing these offensive issues. The OL sucks. That's problem number 1. Then it has to be him, right? There's no excuse with all of these weapons.
seanbrock 1,684 Posted November 16, 2016 I think it's too early to give up on Bortles, but it might do some good to bring in a veteran to push him for his job in the off season. If he doesn't respond, if he's not improving his mechanics then I think you have to look at starting over with a new QB. Step number 1 is getting a good, QB friendly HC (I'd got hard after Dirk Koetter personally) Step 2 you have to make some changes up front, but I think if you draft a QB in the top 5 you're invested and you have to let it play out otherwise you'll be drafting a new QB every other year. Just ask the Browns how that works out. I know Jags fans fans are tired of waiting and they stayed with Bradley too long, but you look at every good team in the NFL and they have consistency, they have a culture. You can't build either of those things cycling through coaches and QB's. It took Chuck Noll 3 years to have a winning season. It took Tom Landry 6. It took Bill Walsh 2 years and Jimmy Johnson's Cowboys won 1 fucking game in his first season. Hell, Bill Belichick's record was 41-55 before 2001 and was 5-11 the year before he won his first ring. I'm not saying you keep Gus Bradley. I'm saying it takes time to build success sometimes.
