Dallas Vs. Philly Part 1

Recommended Posts

A lot of attention is going to go to Dak vs. Carson and for good reason. They look like the best rookies we've seen in quite some time and we all know that a rookie QB having a bad day can sink your team with turnovers and mental mistakes. Until recently the Eagles rookie looked untouchable but after two poor games he looks like a really good rookie more than a top 15 QB. Dak Prescott threw his first interception last against Green Bay but in the eyes of a lot of people had his best game yet against the Packers and has yet to have a bad game thus far.

As exciting as these two rookies have been it's another rookie Ezekiel Elliot who has stolen the show for Dallas and his offensive line vs. The Eagles front seven that will likely determine the outcome of this game, a game that will either cement Dallas at the top of the NFCE or put Redskins, Eagles and Cowboys in a 3 way tie for first place in the division.

As far as that match up goes it looks like Dallas has the advantage which could lead to the Eagles being exposed in another more unfavorable match up which is the Dallas Cowboys TE's and WR's vs. The Eagles secondary. When the Eagles had to travel to Detroit and then to Washington, their defensive front seven was beaten badly. They missed tackles and Jim Schwartz's attacking defensive line was allowed to penetrate and then was blocked out of their gaps which the LB's and safeties were unable to fill, get off blocks and make tackles.

This past week the Eagles feasted on an inferior and injured Vikings offensive line and did something that Schwartz does not typically do as a defensive coordinator and that's blitz. I think in this game the Eagles will stack the box and live and die by the blitz in an effort to try and stop Dallas' run game which nobody has really been able to do in an effort to make the rookie Dak Prescott to beat them. If they hope to win this game, they MUST do this or it might get ugly

On the other side of the coin the Eagles offense vs. Dallas' defense the Eagles face yet another tough match up, the Eagles WR's vs. Dallas' secondary. The Eagles WR's will not be able to get any real separation Dallas' corners, so what the Eagles will have to do, which they've surprisingly yet to do all year and that's use their TE's effectively in the passing game. Zack Erz, Trey Burton and Brent Celek are all capable of providing mismatches against Dallas in my opinion but in order for that to happen the Eagles offensive line needs to give Carson Wentz time against a poor Dallas pass rush. The Eagles will need to use their running back by committee to run the ball and to provide Carson Wentz outlets when things break down and viable check down options when the Eagles WR's aren't open. What gets lost in all this is Rod Marinelli. He's a great defensive coordinator in his own right and the Doug Pederson and Frank Reich must beat him in a chess match being that their talent at the offensive skill positions in inferior.

The final phase of the game being special teams has been a real strength of the Eagles this year. Kicking, punting, kick coverage and the return game all have to be won by the Eagles if they hope to win and they're very much capable of all of those things.

Taking my bias out of the equation being an Eagles fan, this is a game that the Eagles should lose. Dallas is a much more talented team and present a lot of bad match ups with the Eagles in a way that Pittsburgh and especially Minnesota really didn't. Pittsburgh had the receivers to exploit the Eagles secondary, but didn't really have the dominant offensive line to combat the Eagles tenacious pass rush and Minnesota with having a hampered Diggs didn't really have anything outside of Kyle Rudolph to challenge the Eagles defense although the Vikings defense is much better than Dallas'. The Eagles are going to have to play pretty much a perfect game to win this Sunday but what makes me think they have a chance is the fact that this will be the best defense Dallas has faced so far and Dak has still yet to have a bad game. It WILL happen at some point and prime time on Sunday night against a good defense is as good a time as any.

Wentz dissects the Cowboys D cause he has time. Zeke and Dak get shut down by a vicious Eagles defense. Eagles win by two scores.

If the Cowboys can't pressure Wentz, he's going to shred them, and establish himself as easily the most talented of the rookie QBs. If the Eagles can't somewhat contain Zeke, this ridiculous narrative that Dak Prescott is playing the best of the rookie QBs will continue. One guy consistently makes elite level NFL throws; the other dumps it off to Beasley and Witten for first downs and very occasionally hits an outside receiver.

Here's to hoping Wentz unravels that false narrative.

Prescott averages more yards per pass :troll:

That's partially because the Eagles WR's are dropping passes when they do manage to get open downfield and partially because Carson has played poorly his last two starts. Jordan Matthews is a good player but he's not a deep threat and neither is anyone else on the team. Makes things really tough on the rookie QB.

Cowboys receivers never drop passes. Especially Dez.

These 2 young qb's are going to be entertaining us for years to come. Dak will win a few, C-Dub will win a few. I'm looking forward to it.
