RazorStar 4,025 Posted January 2, 2017 (edited) Dust off your gambling gloves, children. There's a new competition in town and it hungers for the blood of naive young fools. I'm running this separate from the regular season pick em, so WeaponX can keep his regular season crown, but the playoffs are a whole nother bag of cats. The Rules: There are two ways you can go about predicting games. The first is the standard method of going week by week, and picking the games as they come. You will get one point for getting a game right, and nothing for getting it wrong. The second has a lot more variance involved, higher risk and higher reward. This comes from picking every game all at once, and your deadline to do so according to this method is just before the first playoff game of the wildcard round. The points will be distributed as follows Wild Card Round: 1 point for every correct pick, 0 for any incorrect pick. Divisional Round: 2 points for correctly picking the winner and both teams playing. 1 point for picking a correct winner, but against the wrong team, 0 for any incorrect pick Conference Championships: 4 points for correctly picking the winner and both teams playing, 2 points for picking the winner, but against the wrong team, 0 points for an incorrect pick, but having at least one of the correct teams there, -1 points for the wrong winner and neither team in the game. Super Bowl: 8 points for correctly picking the winner and both teams. 4 points for correctly picking the winner but against the wrong team, 0 points for an incorrect pick, but having at least one of the teams playing, -2 for the wrong winner and neither team in the game. So as you can see, the spread is a lot higher, but the margin for error is risky enough that you could end up with a worse score than if you had just predicted every game wrong one week at a time. Whichever method you choose is up to your leisure, but once you've chosen a method, you can't back out. Wild Card Schedule: Saturday: Raiders @ Texans 4:35 ET Lions @ Seahawks 8:15 ET Sunday: Dolphins @ Steelers 1:05 ET Giants @ Packers 4:40 ET The slates are clean, ladies and gentlemen, it's time to pick em! RazorStar 4,025 Posted January 2, 2017 Well I am a fortunate man, and I must make my fortune. Wildcard: Saturday: Raiders @ Texans 4:35 ET Lions @ Seahawks 8:15 ET Sunday: Dolphins @ Steelers 1:05 ET Giants @ Packers 4:40 ET Divisional Round: Giants @ Falcons 4:35 ET Raiders @ Patriots 8:15 ET Steelers @ Chiefs 1:05 ET Lions @ Cowboys 4:40 ET Conference Championships: Chiefs @ Patriots Giants @ Cowboys Super Bowl: Giants vs. Patriots
oochymp 2,393 Posted January 2, 2017 Divisional Round: 2 points for correctly picking the winner and both teams playing. 1 point for picking a correct winner, but against the wrong team, 0 for any incorrect pick Seems like that puts a lot of weight on getting the 3v6 games right
RazorStar 4,025 Posted January 2, 2017 Well getting those games wrong will lose you at least 4 potential points in the divisional round, while messing up the 4/5 will only lose you at least 2 potential points in that round. So it does make a difference, but it can be made up in spades by getting the later rounds correct. I tried to balance out the risk/reward so it wouldn't just be an obvious conclusion on which method to choose.
SteVo+ 3,702 Posted January 2, 2017 (edited) For the record, I'm doing the one-week-at-a-time method as it pertains to Razor's points system. But I'm also predicting the entire playoffs for fun. Raiders @ Texans 4:35 ET Lions @ Seahawks 8:15 ET Dolphins @ Steelers 1:05 ET Giants @ Packers 4:40 ET ----------------------- Patriots > Raiders Chiefs > Steelers Cowboys > Packers Falcons > Seahawks Patriots > Chiefs Cowboys > Falcons Patriots > Cowboys Pretty much chalk, but, that's how it's gonna be. Thanatos 2,847 Posted January 3, 2017 I know too much about NFL playoffs being damn near impossible for me to pick. Going to stick with the one week at a time method.

seanbrock 1,684 Posted January 4, 2017 Raiders @ Texans is gonna be hard to watch lol. Seattle isn't losing at home. Packers are the hottest team in the league and I just don't see Matt Moore going on the road and putting up enough points to beat Pittsburgh in their building. oochymp 2,393 Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) looks like more people are doing weekly, so fuck it, let's do it all: Wild Card Round: Raiders @ Texans Lions @ Seahawks Dolphins @ Steelers Giants @ Packers Divisional Round: Raiders @ Patriots Steelers @ Chiefs Seahawks @ Falcons Packers @ Cowboys Conference Championships: Steelers @ Patriots Packers @ Falcons Super Bowl LI: Packers v Patriots Still don't like the extra weight on the 3/6 game, but not sure how to balance it out, I'll just blame the NFL for not doing a straight bracket Also, I might post weekly just to see how I'd have done under the alternative scoring for my own curiosity, but I'm going to consider this post my official entry Edited January 6, 2017 by oochymp
