Vin+ 3,121 Posted January 19, 2017 ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the Seahawks could be docked a second-round pick for failing to disclose Richard Sherman's MCL injury. Yikes. Coach Pete Carroll has to be regretting trying to explain away Sherman's (slightly) down 2016 right about now. What the Seahawks did is blatantly against the rules, but a second-rounder would be an extraordinarily severe punishment. The Seahawks are no strangers to pushing boundaries, but there's not a team in the league that doesn't play injury report games. The Seahawks are already missing a 2017 fifth-rounder for illegal offseason practice activity. Source: Chris Mortensen on Twitter

oochymp 2,393 Posted January 20, 2017 Cheating upsets balance of the game too. Fining them does nothing. How does failing to report an injury upset the balance of the game? Also, here's a follow up tweet from Mortensen that clears things up a bit: https://twitter.com/mortreport/status/822147632738889728 so the 2nd round pick wouldn't be just for failing to disclose the injury, but would include the OTA violation, so the steep penalty makes a bit more sense

Why would teams manipulate injury reports if it didn't matter? Why wouldn't Pete and the Seahawks disclose this information earlier if it didn't matter? It's not the most egregious thing ever, don't get me wrong.. But it's clearly a rule that the Seahawks knowingly broke. They deserve to be punished.

Yeah I mean, it seems like over kill but I wouldn't be surprised if they continued to pull those shenanigans if they only got a fine. These teams make so much money and the owners are so rich that it would have to be a pretty damn big fine for it to even matter to them.
