Does Belichick being so good take away from Brady's legacy even in the slightest? Belichick is easily a Top 5 coach of all top. IMO, Top 2... And maybe even best ever. And as Sean pointed out, it's not even really close when you look at him compared to anyone else. Nobody is even within distance of reaching his greatness. And I am not just talking about winning and championships... Look at it from an atmosphere / team culture perspective, or team building where he flips over guys like crazy and takes a lot of gambles on old guys who either suck or were good once but haven't been in a while... Or even from a game-planning perspective... And he makes some of the best adjustments in the league. And his mind as a defensive coach is very underrated since he became a head coach, IMO. The guy knows defense better than maybe anyone.

Well there's the fact that he's proven he can win without Tom and any other player. What team losses it's QB AND it's 2nd best player (other than the QB) and not only wins but looks like the best team in the league? I would wager that it has never been done in the history of the NFL, AFL, UFL etc lol. He didn't have Brady for 15 games and went 10-5 with Matt Fucking Cassel all the while the Patriots were 5th in total offense and 8th in points scored. Small sample size though so it's irrelevant. lol

I don't think it's irrelevant... It was only one year, but it was the entire season. That's a better sample size than say the 4 games Brady missed this year. But he can consistently win without Tom. It'd almost be a shame to see them retire together, because Belichick could probably coach forever and be good with whoever he puts in there.

No coach makes players, especially QBs, better understand his scheme and vision. The Patriots, through Belichick, are the best teachers in the league on both sides of the ball. That's why the Patriots are so good year after year.

He's not just winning without Brady, the Pats still manage to have one of the leagues best offense's without Brady.

The Panthers were tied and kicking off. They did fuck up kicking it out of bounds but they weren't in position to win.

As I said, nothing Brady did up to THAT PLAY would have mattered. Lynch scores and that's game. When someone else fucks up to give your team a win, I can't put that on the opposing qb for winning. He had nothing to do with it.

There has been MANY TIMES you have complained, "oh this team didn't really beat us etc etc". That's the same concept I'm talking about here. Luck or some bullshit doesn't equate to WINNING the game rather than being lucky the opposing team lost it. If Brady throws the GW TD that's different.

He, uh, he did throw the GW TD, Mikey. They were down 24-21, he drove them down and threw a TD. Final score = 28-24. Ergo, Brady threw the GW TD in SB 49.

Not really sure what on earth you're going on about here. Of course Brady can't stop the Hawks offense, he doesn't play defense. That fact doesn't take away one iota from the clinic Tom put on in the 4th quarter in SB 49.

Lynch was 1 of 5 from the 1 yard line that year. It's not a guarantee he gets in. If they run him immediately and he does get in, there's a minute left. Detracting from Brady's performance in 49 just cements you as a hater lol. Especially saying he was lucky. The Hawks were lucky to be in that position given Kearse's miracle catch that set it up.

That was insane. Forgot about that. Has to go down as one of the greatest catches in Super Bowl history.

It was definitely one of the most exciting Super Bowls ever, if nothing else. I still feel terrible for Falcons fans. That's sports at its absolute worst, your team losing a championship like that.

It'd be one thing if it was, say, New England or Pitt losing a game that way. Or any team with a lot of trophies.

But Atlanta? No Super Bowls and as a sports city, just a dreadful one. To collapse like that... man it could tear the team apart. Be really interesting to see how they respond next season.

I have a friend who lives in Atlanta. The morning after the game, he said the whole city was somber, like a city-wide funeral. That sounds absolutely awful.

It's crazy to think if Alford catches that ball... the game most likely ends and the Pats comeback doesn't happen.

There are so many things that would have tilted this game for Atlanta. That's the remarkable thing about the comeback. All it took was one more Falcons catch, one more completion, one less penalty. Or perhaps one more Patriots drop, one more errant throw, one more missed block.

The Patriots needed everything to go their way and then some to complete the comeback. They got it. All the armchair coaches who are criticizing Shanahan for not getting a FG on that last drive are justified, in my opinion.

Yeah that's my thing, everyone says Atlanta got greedy trying to get the TD... after seeing that comeback, nobody should be criticizing that. You don't play to maintain leads, you play to keep building that shit up so crazy things like that don't happen.

Atlanta's defense was so gassed and Brady was shredding them... so I don't get the logic where if they run and go for the FG... that they magically hold off the Patriots.

It's still incomprehensible how the Falcons blew the game. Atlanta statistically had a 99.8% chance of winning with 21 minutes left. 99.8 percent. The game was OVER. No team has any business coming back from 25 down... in the Super Bowl... with a quarter and change left.

It was pretty disappointing when the Pats were getting shit on, but there wasn't really any need for me to lose my shit since A. Pats just won the SB 2 years ago, B. I don't mind Atlanta and they were going for their first SB, and C. I was thinking ''at least getting blown out is better than losing a heartbreaker''. Think I was in as much shock as Falcons fans were after the game. Legit didn't even know what to feel.

There wouldnt have been enough time.

FG wins the game for the Falcons. They run it three times, first off, they get :40 more off the clock, because that incomplete pass doesn't happen.

So that means they lead 31-20 with <3:00 minutes left. Pats would have to have an onside kick recovery to win at that point.

I legit felt bad about that game, I still do. Even though they are rivals, you never wish losing your potential first SB like that.

Also if Freeman doesn't miss the block on Hightower, the Falcons have a TD:

Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. is not 5he goat lol. The Patriots are 14 and 5 without Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. and have still had one of the leagues top offenses without Brady. There is no other hall of fame QB in the history of the game whose team had that much success. Put Scott Tolzein in for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers would probably lose and lose badly to the fucking Browns. We saw how the Colts fell apart without Peyton until Luck. Than was saying it was a small sample size or some bullshit but show me a QB with a better sample size. The Patriots looked like the best team in the league without Brady AND Gronk. Brady is a hall of fame and an all time great but the Pats success has MUCH more to do with Belichick. I'd say like 70/30 in Belichick's favor.
