How is your team doing in free agency?

Recommended Posts

So the Super Bowl is over, which leads to what's traditionally the slowest stretch of the year on here. With that in mind, I'm going to be starting a few threads to hopefully spark some offseason discussion. In the first of the series the question is in the title of the thread, what do you want to see your team do with its pending free agents? Hopefully this can provide us a good look at pending free agents, maybe some people that fans of other teams don't realize are hitting the market or don't appropriately recognize the value.

Anyway, enough foreplay, I'll start off with the Titans:

Try to bring back cheap:

Anthony Fasano - he's a solid TE, I'd like to keep him around for another year or two, but I'm hoping we can get a bit more dynamic at the position behind Walker and Fasano's 32 so I wouldn't invest in him for more than 2 years

Rashad Johnson/Daimion Stafford - we ran a four man rotation at safety this year and it worked well enough, but I'm hoping Byard is able to take on a bigger role and I don't think we're going to need to bring both of these guys back, but if they both walk then safety goes from a position we could beef up a bit to a major need, I wouldn't mind bringing both back, but neither are guys to break the bank for

Karl Klug - he's been great as a small part in the dline rotation

Sean Spence/Nate Palmer/David Bass - these guys are getting clumped because they're depth LBs and primarily special teamers, it'd be nice to keep a couple of them cheap

Byron Bell - you can never have enough depth at the oline and he's a guy that can plug in at multiple positions, he was slated to start at LG before he got hurt, but he's also capable enough at tackle to play there when needed so I wouldn't be surprised if someone signs him as a low-end starting RT, where he started for a lot of 2015

Brian Schwenke - similar to Bell he can provide depth at multiple positions along the oline, but I wouldn't be surprised to see someone bring him in to at least compete for a starting spot at center or guard

Valentino Blake - the corner formerly known as Antwon, he's a decent corner for depth and when he bothers to think he can be an asset on special teams, it'd be nice if he sticks around cheap, but he's not a guy I'd make an offer above the veteran minimum for and, like the above, he's almost shown himself capable of competing for a starting spot, if he goes elsewhere I'm not gonna be disappointed

Let them walk:
Kendall Wright - it's been a foregone conclusion for a while that Wright is done in Tennessee, he's a frustrating guy because there's all sorts of talent, but I just don't think he's willing to put the time in during the week, he's at his best when he's allowed to free-lance so maybe he can find an offense that'll let him do that (look for him to land in Chicago with Dowell Loggains)

Chance Warmack - I have no idea what happened with him, he's flashed greatness, but mostly shown barely mediocrity, I wish him the best elsewhere but he never came close to expectations after the draft

Matt Cassell - he's been a fine backup and the veteran presence was great for Mariota, but at this point I'm hoping we go younger (and cheaper) with the backup QB

Marc Mariani - he was a solid returner in that he didn't make any mistakes, but that's all he did, I'd like to see us either get a more dynamic returner or a returner who can contribute beyond just returning (and those are not mutually exclusive)

:Texans:

CB A.J. Bouye - Easily the top free agent of the Texans. I feel like he's going to sign somewhere else, but it would be great if they can somehow keep him around. Should be Johnathan Joseph's replacement.

P Shane Lechler - He's getting old, but still one of the top punters in the game.

S Quintin Demps - Had a really good year and would like to see him return and build off of it.

K Nick Novak - Dude is money when it's less than 50 yards.

Everyone else is either meh depth or STs contributors that don't really have much impact if re-signed or not.

:Pats:

Re-sign:

LB Dont'a Hightower: Biggest priority in FA. Worse comes to worst he should be franchise tagged.

LB Barkevious Mingo: Great ST player. Still think he has a lot of untapped potential on defense as well.

DE Chris Long: Solid player... 1-2 year deal sounds about right.

FS Duron Harmon: Keep him at the right price

FB James Develin: Best FB in the god damn game

RB LeGarrette Blount: only at a fair price and a 1-year deal... rather wouldn't see Pats break the bank for Blount.

DT Alan Branch: 1-year deal pls

CB Malcolm Butler (RFA): No-brainer to keep him.

SS Brandon King (exclusive rights FA): ST stud... keep him around.

Let 'em walk:

CB Logan Ryan: Credit to him, he did play well at the end of the year and into the postseason, but I've seen more bad than good from Logan Ryan over his career. I'm sure several teams will be lining up to offer him a shit ton of money, and he probably won't pan out too well for whatever team he goes to.

DE Jabaal Sheard: Definitely enjoyed watching Sheard these past 2 seasons, but he's going to get bigger offers elsewhere. Not to mention Trey Flowers can step in right away.

TE Martellus Bennett: Black Unicorn is probably going to get a huge payday. Pats will try to find another solid veteran (Jared Cook?) at a cheaper rate to replace him.

RB Brandon Bolden: meh

WR Michael Floyd: Just decent for depth is how I see Floyd. Some desperate ass team will pay him.

Well, I planned to do the next question in a separate thread, but I'll throw it in here and see if we can get a little more traction, it fits reasonably well:

What free agents from other teams do you want your team to sign?

For Tennessee we've got three spots that I think need an immediate starter (meaning I don't want to rely on the draft) and there are a few players I'd like to see us target at each spot:

Defensive Backfield (okay, this covers multiple positions, but our secondary was garbage last near, needs almost a complete overhaul):

Eric Berry - okay, he's not going to hit free agency, I need to admit this now so I'm not disappointed, but if he does the Titans need to back a Brinks truck up to his house

Logan Ryan - sorry Phil, from everything I've read about him he's a guy I'd love to see in two-tone blue, I know Robinson thought a lot of him when he was drafted (and Robinson was in NE) so I think he'll be one of our targets, that said as you alluded to he may end up way over valued

Stephon Gilmore - had a down season, but he's still young and not long removed from being a top corner, he's definitely an upgrade over what we had last year

Linebackers

Dont'a Hightower - let's just sign all of the Patriots free agents, but seriously, our inside linebackers were barely serviceable and it's rare to have a guy as good as Hightower come available (and he still might not)

James Harrison - it's hard to see him playing for anyone but Pittsburgh, but maybe he wants to finish things out with LeBeau? he'd be a great third guy in the rotation behind Orakpo and Morgan

Lawrence Timmons - would be a huge upgrade at one of our thinnest spots

Wide Receiver

Cordarrelle Patterson - feels weird to rate a guy who's never had a 500 yard season as the top target, but he'd be a great compliment to Matthews and Sharpe and would give us a kick returner more dangerous than we've had in years

Kenny Stills - sounds like he might get overpaid, if that happens I want no part of it, but if he comes at a reasonable price I think he could be a great deep threat, which is something we sorely need

Pierre Garcon/DeSean Jackson - I doubt the skins will be able to keep both and I'd love to see us go after whichever one they let walk, like I said in another thread I would prefer Jackson because he's different from what we have, but Garcon is definitely an upgrade and might fit better with the culture Robinson is trying to build

Nosetackle (not necessarily a need, but there are a couple guys at the position that I'd like to see us grab)

Dontari Poe - KC is not going to be able to keep him and Berry, whichever one walks needs to be on the Titans' radar

Brandon Williams - I think Baltimore is going to try to get him back, but the guy's a fantastic space eater and would do a lot to ease the pressure on whoever is lining up at ILB for us next year

With the $27 mil in cap space that we have, it would be an awesome idea to dangle some money at OT Riley Reiff and see if he wants to come to a good situation where a lot of OL help is needed. There really is no veteran on the line. This would allow Reese Odhiambo to keep growing at guard, and Germain Ifedi could then also stay at guard or swing out to right tackle. Having the Ifedi injury in the playoff game against Atlanta exploited how not deep we were at OL. I know they want the OL to have the least amount of investment but this would be beyond worth it and would help out the defense and really everyone. The money spent here would go farther than anywhere else.

CB Logan Ryan is intriguing. Lane and Shead were awful when Earl Thomas was out of the lineup. Deshaun Shead's injury was so bad that he will miss a lot of 2017 and probably have a lousy year when he is out there. Shead is not overly valuable. Either this or we better have a fantastic draft plan for CB or convince Walter Thurmond to come out of retirement because we are THIN at CB, and we are the Legion of Boom. Not the Legion of Pussies.

As far as our own guys...

We should retain

FB Marcell Reese

SS Kelcie McCray

TE Luke Willson

CB Deshaun Shead

Let walk...

K Steven Hauschka

SS Jeron Johnson

Don't expect the Texans to do much in free agency when it comes to other team's players, but I'd like to see them get some RT help. Sebastian Vollmer or Menelik Watson would be cool, so long as it's on the cheap.

Eagles will take AJ Bouye off your hands. :D

I just don't want the Eagles to hand a big contract to Jeffery or Jackson. Both are very good players, but the Eagles need players who will suit up for 16 games or at least have a chance to. Injuries happen, I get that but they happen to those two seemingly every year. With Jackson there's also the age concern. Once he loses his speed he's essentially not even good enough to play in the NFL. He could have 3-4 years left in the tank but do you take that risk? I wouldn't

Dre Kirkpatrick is somebody I would like to bring in and I think he's an excellent scheme fit too.

Please stay away from Logan Ryan

Terrelle Pryor (Wouldn't want to pay him mega bucks like he will probably want)

Brandon Marshall (if he's available short deal)

Kenny Britt (likely to be re-signed)

Pierre Garcon (short deal)

Brandon LaFell

I'd like to see us pick up some veteran offensive linemen, especially at RT. We need to spend our first on a LT, that should go without saying, but our whole line is a mess outside of Paradis. Sadly the tackle market is pretty slim pickings, it's basically Ricky Wagner or Riley Reiff.

Otherwise it's basically just luxury picks I'd be interested in. Donta Hightower to bolster our linebacking corps (and fuck the Patriots), Micah Hyde for a legitimate return man and solid depth in the secondary, and hey if the Bears don't want to resign Alshon Jeffrey, I'll take him for the Broncos.

As for guys I'd like to resign:

DeMarcus Ware: Get him a conditional deal or something, I don't care. I want him to retire a Bronco. He's been nothing but a class act and leader for our defense, the loss would be more than just a starting edge rusher.

Kayvon Webster: Great special teams player. Not a high priority, but if we could get him back for cheap, we'd be foolish not to.

Sly Williams: We probably aren't going to pay top dollar to get him back, so I imagine he'll end up walking. He is a presence on our defensive line though, I'd like him back, but don't want to break the bank for him.

Everyone else in free agency can walk, They're replacement level guys.

He's the best Free Agent that has a slight chance of hitting the market, but I don't see that happening. Teams find ways to keep players that young with that talent.

So apparently the market just became full of left tackles. Kelvin Beachem, Brandon Albert, Russell Okung to be not retained according to reports. Give me one of those first two pls.

You might just get that.

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/9104/aj-bouye

According to ESPN's Ed Werder, the Texans are "concerned" about losing free agent CB A.J. Bouye to the Eagles.

It was reported Tuesday that Bouye was likely to sign with a team in the AFC South but now the Eagles are making a strong push. The sides have been talking since the legal tampering period began on Tuesday, though Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle insists the Eagles have yet to make an offer. With all the interest he's generating, Bouye seems like a lock to net $13 million annually on his next deal. That would represent an enormous raise after earning just $1.67 million on the last year of his rookie contract.

Now that free agency has started this thread can evolve again: How is your team doing in free agency? hate a new addition? did your team miss out on someone you wanted? I imagine we'll have separate threads for a lot of the big name free agents, but use this for the low-key guys you still want to comment on

The Titans have signed Johnathan Cyprien, I'm not sure of the terms but I love the signing, Byard should grow into a solid centerfield-type safety and now we've got one of the best in-the-box types to compliment, I don't know terms but I already like the move

Very happy with the start of FA for the Bucs. We kept William Gholston and Jacquizz Rodgers then went out and got DeSean Jackson and Chris Baker. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the roster take shape now.

sounds like we were the only other team fighting Baltimore for Brandon Williams, he ended up re-signing with Baltimore for five years and $54M ($27.5M guaranteed) that's a little steep for a NT, I don't mind that we passed

we've also signed a couple of special teams players, no real big names so far but it seems like there are a lot of big names still out there

tough to see Bouye sign with Jacksonville, but that's a hell of a lot of money for a guy with one year of production

Pretty happy so far. I didn't want Alshon to be honest but there's no doubt that he upgrades the team and the Eagles aren't locked into a long term deal with a player who has had a lot of injuries in the past and a guy who is looking at a ten game suspension with another ped violation.

Hoping Torry Smith can bounce back to format with us. I think he's a decent bet to be able to that with Matthews, Ertz and Alshon taking some pressure off of him.

Really like the upside of Warmack. Young player who is being reunited with his college position coach. If the Eagles can unlock his potential they got an absolute steal.

The only bad thing is we have yet to sign a CB and we're now up against the cap and still have to make space to sign their rookies. We'll see how it goes but the Eagles are off to a good start.

Re-signed our kicker and punter, and pretty much lost everybody else so far. Oh and it cost a 2nd round pick to get rid of Osweiler's atrocious contract. Start up "Romo Watch 2017."

Man the NFC East it going to be lit this year with the Iggles WR improvements.

I'm stoked that Brandon Marshall has been signed as he gives OBJ protection, Sterling the chance to improve away from the main spotlight plus the bullshit that happened at the end of last season won't be happening with BMarsh there. He's a vet now and he's been there and done that shit but he wants that ring and is in as good as a position to do it, he wont take shit anymore as he showed with the Jets,

I'd love the Giants to take a shot on Menelik Watson for two reasons. The first it keeps the UK player trend alive, secondly because if he can find a way to stay healthy his run blocking will be a big improvement to what we have in the tackle department right now.

Cant complain. Desean takes a lot of pressure off Evans and will finally give our offense some speed.

Chris Baker for that contract is amazing. He is an instant upgrade over Akeem Spence and Mcdonald.
