Jack Doyle

Recommended Posts

Well, Chris Ballard has come in as GM, stating that you "can't buy a locker room", and that we will be a great drafting team and "grow our own". Considering the fact that we have a cool 50 large to spend in FA, and that we must use a high percentage of that, Jack Doyle seems like the guy who has positioned himself perfectly. He was a big reason why the Colts even got to .500 last year. The guy was frankly a very good tight end. I don't care how much we paid Allen....use some of that 50 large and pay to retain our own talent.

Allen could still earn his contract, but he will have to bring more than he did this last season. Of course, he needs to be freed up from blocking duties a bit more, but when he was, he did not make the most of his opportunities.

Hoping he makes it to FA so the Titans can steal him to eventually take over for Walker. Walker/Doyle/re-sign Fasano for a couple years. :yep:

Colts re-signed TE Jack Doyle to a three-year, $19 million contract.

The deal includes $9.5 million guaranteed. Another $2 million is possible through incentives. A onetime fantasy punch line, Doyle emerged as the Colts' No. 1 tight end in the absence of Coby Fleener, out-playing Dwayne Allen in 2016. Doyle posted a 59/584/5 line compared to Allen's 35/406/6, and even earned better blocking grades from Pro Football Focus. The yardage and catches were both more than Allen has ever posted in a season. There's been little chatter on the matter, but the Colts could create $2.937 million in cap space by cutting Allen. That would make Doyle a fantasy TE1. As of now, he's a matchup-dependent TE2.

Yesss! First big move by the GM says, Do your job well and we will pay to keep you.

Good vibe to send to the Colts locker room.

Patriots acquired TE Dwayne Allen and a sixth-round pick from the Colts in exchange for a fourth-round pick.

The surprising move is a result of free agency's moving parts, with the Colts re-signing Jack Doyle and the Pats letting Martellus Bennett walk. Allen has long teased tantalizing upside as a complete tight end, but was extremely disappointing in the first season of a four-year, $29.4 million extension in 2016. Allen was out-played by Doyle, including as a blocker. The Pats clearly believe his game can be revived, while he can be more of a role player if Rob Gronkowski can stay on the field. If not, Allen has the skill-set to be an every-down player, at least in theory.

Hard to say with DA. I could see him really becoming a player for NE. However, his price...coupled with his inability to make the big catch when needed, pushed the team to sign Doyle, and probably use a later rounder for depth or pick up a cut player from a TE rich squad. Swoope shows promise, but there is now way we go into the season with just those two.
