Teams keep trading players to the Pats

Recommended Posts

NFL pls.

Patriots acquired DE Kony Ealy and a third-round pick from the Panthers in exchange for a second-round selection.

Just a couple days after taking a low-cost shot on Dwayne Allen, the Patriots are at it again. With a picked-over market at pass rusher, acquiring a former second-round pick by essentially moving down eight spots (assuming the picks are in 2017) is another piece of smart business from New England. That said, Ealy has been a below-average player outside of a memorable Super Bowl performance. The Patriots still have work to do on the defensive line.

Couple hours later, new trade. NFL pls

Patriots acquired WR Brandin Cooks and a 2017 fourth-round pick from the Saints in exchange for a first and third-round pick in the 2017 draft.

The Saints promised Cooks would be gone by the end of the day and they were true to their word. The rumor was that New England was looking to land Cooks for top corner Malcolm Butler but he's staying put. The Patriots are giving up some premium draft picks, but this is a big get. Cooks is coming off his second straight 1,000-yard season and now gives the Patriots another weapon alongside Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, Chris Hogan and Malcolm Mitchell. New England has been the winner of free agency so far, landing top corner Stephon Gilmore and now acquiring Cooks for draft picks. Back in New Orleans, Michael Thomas and Willie Snead are both looking at a big boost in fantasy production with Cooks out of the picture.

While I think the Patriots have made good moves, its been a weird offseason for them. I wonder if they're feeling like Brady is gonna retire soon and want to make sure they're stacked for his last few years.

Belichick is not going into the draft without a 1st and 2nd rounder. I'll be stunned if Jimmy isn't traded to Cleveland or some other team to get some picks back.
