Joe Mixon

I would like to add that I truly hope both he and the woman involved in the first incident, are able to move on from this and have it be a minimal affect on their respective lives.

I think the situation with Mixon largely depends on how he has acted since, and how he interviews with teams. Mixon has had only one incident from what we've seen, and while it was certainly not pretty, it wasn't nearly as bad as being a repeat offenders. I would tend to lean more to the idea that assault is way less of a problem for a prospect than domestic violence. I think it's much more of a behavioral issue to have a case where you assaulted a family member or lover rather than simply decking someone on the street. From everything I've heard, Mixon has expressed genuine sorrow for his actions, and teams like what they've heard from him.

Give me Mixon, who once punched a woman who insulted him with racial slurs, over a guy like Dalvin who has had robbery and firearm charges brought against him. Or Dede Westbrook who apparently beat his pregnant wife.

I am not saying what he did was right, nor am I condoning it, but I hold her more responsible than him. Women are starting to figure out and learn the hard way that you don't get to put your hands on men and say," I am a woman, you cant hit me even if I am beating the hell out of you." I think this is actually the real problem, is women being told they don't have to act like a lady, but men are required to treat them like one regardless.

I was massively against the Ray Rice thing, and I still would not want him on the Ravens, but that is more so because he was sucking before he left. His wife was beating his ass too, and it is just kind of crazy this whole quasi-feminist society we live in tells us that women want equality, but don't behave as such. If she was hitting him in an aggressive manner (she was) and she got dealt with like a dude I have no sympathy for her whatsoever. I would draft him if this were the only trouble he had been in. If he was a great person all throughout, and as it turns out he just does not like people hitting him, I still don't think he is a bad dude.

My opinion over the last 2 years has really softened with this as I have witnessed on no less than 4 occasions women beating the hell out of men in public, and people clapping and whooping it up. On one occasion the dude had enough and caught her with a hook that would have made Tyson envious, and my girlfriend and I were the only ones clapping. Everyone was appalled that he had the audacity to not let her finish beating him. NO MAN, I REPEAT NO MAN has to sit there and get his ass beat by some crazy cunt. This would be different if he just cold cocked her for saying he had a little dick or something in which case he should be thrown in jail and if he can run the ball at 40, let him play. That isnt what happened though, some little white girl got all offended about something, pushed him, he said dont do that, and she smacked him. Well she found out what and I dont feel bad for her.

I'm not saying this isn't a conversation that should be have, especially as I'm joining in on it, but at this point, having this conversation is textbook insanity imo. Because it's one we are going to have every single year, for at last a couple players. From a draft perspective though, pretty much what Chery said is all that needs to be imo.

The fact there is a video is the reason why so many people -not everyone- is outraged by this. Textbook Ray Rice scenario. He deserves every single bit of hardship he's had to endure since putting his hands on her, imo. From the media crucifixion, to wherever he gets drafted, if he gets drafted come draft day(s).

But at some point people (again not everyone) need to check the hypocrisy at the door.

And while I understand you aren't really looking for an argument Warhorse, I think your attempt at making us all see how wrong this is by asking us to put ourselves in a situation where this might be our sister or daughter is a bit of faulty logic. I would throw hands at anyone who put their hands on any of my four sisters... But my sisters, and my future daughter (god willing) were also taught to keep their hands to themselves, and that every action has consequences, so in the same way you'd hope your brothers and sons wouldn't put their hands on a woman, you'd hope a woman would understand the same thing.

Even if you're one of those who think the girl got what was coming to her which we don't even know because we don't know WHY she was hitting him the fact remains that doing something like this when you looking at trying to become a professional football player is patently stupid. Like if I knew hitting somebody was going to potentially cost me millions of dollars I think I could restrain myself and I know he was 18 and 18 year olds are pretty immature but an 18 year old should be smart enough to grasp that concept.

As someone who has felt the backlash of media misrepresenting events, I would assume you would have more faith in Mixon than almost anyone else. As a first time offender, it makes his case all the better that he simply lost his temper.

It's also intriguing that we are still viewing Mixon like he is the same kid he was in 2014 when the incident occured. I know personally I've experienced quite a bit of growth from 2014 to 2017, and while I'm younger than Mixon in that timeframe, I'm still about same age. If you asked me about stuff I did or said in 2014, I'd be shitting on my past. Mixon was still honestly a kid when the assault occurred, so you have to look at how he has grown since then.

Thanks everyone....and I felt I just had to get my thoughts out. I am absorbing all the things shared here and taking it all in. I have limited info, and that makes things tough. I think that my reaction was coming from a place of disgust at many Colt fans on .com, merely sweeping it under the rug because of how talented the guy is. I keep things pretty much to myself as evidenced by my lack of participation in the political threads.

In the end...healing for all is what I hope for.

If you guys think she had that coming, you are completely lit. Go re-watch the video, it was a complete bitch ass move by Mixon. It is up to the man in those situations to be a man and have some restraint. Mixon deserves 100% of the blame. I have actually been in a similar situation in my early college years where a girl punched me. Trust me, it is not that difficult to diffuse the situation without knocking her senseless. It is really simple, you don't Mike Tyson a bitch for slapping you. It is not like she was even a threat to him. He is a 200+ pound football player. This is a prime example of why men should never hit a woman unless it is absolutely necessary.

Ngata, instead of "sitting" there and letting her "whoop your ass"...how about you walk away or run or put your guard up until someone intervenes or restrain her yourself? Also, Ray Rice was hardly phased by his wife and not only did he annihilate her, HE FUCKING DRAGGED HER OUT OF THE ELEVATOR AS SHE WAS OUT COLD. But "no I cared more about him not making the team because he sucked." Come on man...

All of this being said, Mixon only got a misdemeanor for it, so I don't really think he should be shunned from the NFL or anything. As to your question Warhorse, I will not respect him or root for him individually until he shows he has grown past doing something so ridiculous. Also, as others have said, there are people who have done much worse that are playing in the NFL.

See this is the exciting part of this argument, a it is every time. You have the white knight (you, no offense meant) and the asshole (me) who are arguing about expectations. That is what this really is. So without further ado lets go point by point here.

You say how about I walk away. Why ? Why is it up to me to mitigate the bad behavior of others ? Why must I leave public places because somebody cant control themselves. Oh, yes, I am being the bigger man. That is the argument right? Well the answer is simple. I have a right to be at a public place regardless of how other people behave, and my right to be there is extended to me so long as I am able to behave myself. Why do I have to run for behaving in society like all adults should? So I can accommodate a cunt ?

Now that may seem harsh and people will not like the word cunt, which is fine (bunch of cunts), so let me extend an olive branch. I only say these things because of equality. I believe that both men and women have the ability to control their behavior, and are smart enough to know that you should not hit others, unless you are looking for a fight. If this were a man, and he were to walk into a restaurant and smacking patrons, and some dude cracked his ass, would you have a problem ? The problem with this question for people who see things as you do is either way you answer, you are sexist. I dont mean this offensively, but how do you answer that question without misoginy or misandry? Put a man and a woman in identical scenarios and where would your outrage lie. If you agree that nobody should put their hands on anyone then, we have nothing to talk about. She started it, and he finished it. They were both wrong and on the grounds of morality it has to be a draw AT MINIMUM, because she really did start the physical violence.

Then their is the implication that women are stupid and have no self control. If you are saying I have to run because she does not have any control over her mouth or limbs, or is to stupid to resolve conflict without violence it is not a good look on her. Now I have not heard you say that but to say she has no fault in it, is close. that is saying she has no control over her actions. If that is true she is stupid or has no control, either way it insults her. At least people who see things as I do recognize that she is an adult with cognitive abilities and most likely understands that is a fight you dont start, like any other fight unless you are willing.

So I mean in the end you can play the awesome dude, and that is fine. AS Dmac said though, check your hypocrisy at the door. If you think it is only his fault, you are a being hypocrite, and there is no defense for it.

Team interviews aren't going to do much in terms of real answers. Guys get coached up for that stuff way in advance.

If he showed real empathy and doesn't have a history, sure chalk it up as a one-off and go about your day.

Acting like the media taking him to task or his draft stock falling is punishment though is laughable. That isn't punishment, those are consequences for your mistake. I am not saying the guy should be shunned or in prison, not by a king shot -- but let's not act like people having a negative view of him now somehow vindicates him.

I will add, while I don't condone Mixon's actions and wish he would not have hit the woman, he was clearly about to walk away until she pushed him. I think it was honestly just a situation of him losing his temper.

When you are being slapped, it happens. All I am saying is I think it is hilarious he gets crucified for being able to hit harder than she hit him, and nobody wants to admit...just maybe she deserved to get smacked the fuck up. Maybe not punched out like she did, but clearly she missed a few ass whoopins from her parents if she thinks you just get to all willy nilly put your hands on people.

you know how you prevent getting hit 99% of the time. Don't hit others. I cant believe people struggle with this. Not you per say.

And again, as someone who doesn't support violence against women I myself don't support his actions.

But posts like sb's, etc, makes it sound like we are all raised the same and think the same or have the same moral values in life, and we can all control our temper the same. Especially at the age of 18 coming out of different backgrounds into a college campus.

Total PR move. They dont even have a pick in the first two rounds. This odd announcement (by their standards), stinks of Kraft manipulation.

Interesting moral compass the Pats have. It's ok to drive so drunk you're passing out behind the wheel and could easily kill somebody, but you hit a woman and suddenly you're just not acceptable for the team.

I wouldn't want that sorry sack of shit anywhere on the Eagles, I don't care how talented he is. You never hit a girl/woman ever, he could've defused the situation but decided to cold clock her the dude doesn't deserve NFL Roster spot.

Just because hes talented shouldn't outweigh what the mother fucker did.

Mixon, Westbrook and anyone else who actually as evidence they abused a woman should never allowed a NFL Roster spot

Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon allegedly punched a female while in high school.

The allegation comes from Anthony Hernandez, who says for a "fact" that Mixon hit his daughter when the two were in high school. "He threw my daughter to the ground and hit her," Hernandez said. "I went to the school and they hid him in the office. He got no punishment. The police even came. I was escorted off the campus as if I did something wrong. These are simply the facts, he's a woman beater." Longtime personnel man Gil Brandt said this incident is of concern among NFL teams, in addition to the video of Mixon laying out a girl with a punch at Oklahoma. Mixon could be drafted anywhere from Day 2 to being an UDFA.

Now that changes everything. I still think the chick who hit him is as culpable as he is in that situation, however, if there is a pattern than yeah, fuck him.
