United Airlines dun goofed

Recommended Posts

Fucking ridiculous.

1. Flights shouldn't EVER be able to be overbooked

2. Nobody should be bumped from their flight ever involuntarily... even if there is compensation... it's the principle that matters.

3. The force used by these officers is ridiculous. It looks like the guy is struck in the face and THEN his head is slammed off the arm rest. THEN dragged by them, completely tasteless and unprofessional.

4. United bumped him because they had 4 employees that had to be on this flight but didn't properly book the flight to accomodate them. This man was a Doctor. Fuck your shitty airline employees who all can't seem to be on the same page.

This man saves lives, while you guys grope and constantly fuck up people's lives because they choose to fly.

This situation outrages me.

Those 2 people that also willing got up for money should also be body slammed because they are the ones that make United think they can get away with bumping people and THEN having the right to forcibly remove them.

I am not nearly as outraged as a lot of people.. If you fly somewhat regularly, you know this stuff happens. Is overbooking and all that lame? Yeah, but it happens.

I don't like the force exhibited by the security officers but let me ask this.. What do you do in a situation like this? I am not asking sarcastically.. But when you have an individual, refusing to leave and just acting like dead weight.. what else are you suppose to do then try picking him up and carrying him...

If he's resisting (and he was).. and in tight quarters, and a consequence is the guys face slams into an arm rest and gets knocked out.. IMO, so fucking be it. The security didn't seem to TRY hurting him. They go to pick him up and escort him off the plane, he's puling back from them, getting leverage to stay in the seat. Security guy increases the force he uses pulling the man out of his seat and the passenger almost seems to just give up and go limp.. You see the security guy lose his balance and kinda fall when the passenger hits the arm rest.. he wasn't expecting it to be that easy.

Airlines can bump you from flights for whatever reason. Guy being a doctor doesn't change anything for me... and all those people acting outraged on the plane... Please. You could have easily seen that struggle begin and then volunteer your seat instead. You didn't, and you thought it was better to get your cameras out..

Get off the damn plane.

I'm most surprised that they couldn't find four people who would take $800 and a free hotel room to get on a flight the next morning, I'd take that in a heartbeat. And before you ask about circumstances, if there's anywhere that I need to be so urgently that I can't take that offer then I'm not going to be a flight away the night before.

What if you had to be a flight away because of urgent business though?

I know there are people that fly from city to city on a daily basis for there job...

F4E, I know what you're doing so stop it...

Oochy, it seems to me you're willing to accept incompetent and inefficient airline work in return for a small sum of money which essentially encourages them to think that what they are doing is ok, as long as nobody makes a big deal.

Well. The deal has been made and regardless of how you look at this, this is bad... bad PR that will hurt your company in some way shape or form and have people wanting change.

Are other airlines not an option?

If it's business that urgent that requires I be in two cities that quickly then I'm probably not flying commercial.

And ATL, it's not really incompetence, it's knowing the market and knowing that a certain percentage of people who book flights won't show up, then making a calculated gamble as to how many no-shows you'll have. Sometimes you're wrong and you have to bump people to the next flight. Are there better ways to reduce overbooking? Sure, the whole idea of cancellation fees drives up the number of no-shows, get rid of those and you wouldn't have to overbook much, if at all. Even if you didn't give a refund, but just made it free for people to tell you they weren't showing up I bet most people would, but if your options are a $100+ fee to cancel or just not show up, I can tell you what I'd do.

Chick-fil-A booked my flight so not really. I won't complain too hard because I get paid for the travel time, but I do not like United at all.

Also, to be clear, the amount of force used to 'voluntarily' bump him from the flight is absolutely absurd, but that's on the officers, not United.

I think overbooking is fine, but if an airline does they can't force someone off. Just keep raising the incentive until you find someone willing. Maybe no one would take $800 but if it gets up to $5k? I guarentee you'd find someone then (probably wouldn't even need to go that high). If the airline is gonna take that risk, they have to accept the consequences b

Apparently it wasn't an overbooking issue. They just needed to move their staff. Same principles apply about raising the incentive, so I'm not arguing with blots. Just stating.

Does this change anyone's mind? Guy was indeed a doctor, but he was charged in 2005 with 98 felony counts for misuse of and abuse of painkillers. He also admitted to exchanging sexual favors for drugs, had his license revoked in 2005, he was reinstated in 2015, but in 2016 restrictions were placed on it so he could only practice in a hospital with other doctors checking him- and only one day a week.

TL;DR: Guy is a fucking HUGE scumbag.

I don't think that matters. It's not like doing something terrible to someone terrible makes the action any less terrible.

Doesn't change my mind but it does make me laugh even more about him thinking that him being a doctor put him above other people.

I now care even less than I did before.

100% disagree.

Half of the people that were so upset were using the logic that he was a doctor and thus needed to be at the hospital.

What United did was wrong as shit, but the fact that the guy is a sleazy scumbag does diminish my righteous fire for seeing him get "justice."

Airlines don't have the right to assault people to force them off planes to cover up their shoddy planning. Doesn't matter what the guy did in the past.

Technically the airline didn't assault him. Security / Police did.

Annnnnd that information may be wrong, and was being reported about someone whose second name was Anh, whereas this guy's second name is Thanh.

I'm sure glad all the major publications took time to slander him to make United look good.
