Power Rankings Thread

Recommended Posts

Week 1

1. Pittsburgh- Yeah, they didn't blow out the Browns but for as much as everyone knows about all their weapons on offense, Pittsburgh was underrated defensively last year and I think they've gotten a little better on that side of the ball. This team is dangerous

2. Oakland- Going into the year we all saw the Titans as a team with a lot of upside on offense. They held the Titans to under 100 rushing yards. Their defense doesn't need to be dominant this year for the Raiders to be Super Bowl contenders.

3. Kansas City- Going into Gillette Stadium against Brady and Belichick and coming out with a win normally would have the Chiefs higher on this list but they lost their best player for the year in that game. Really hate to see that happen to Berry of all people but that's a really big deal. They're also down a starting CB

Green Bay- Mike McCarthy is still a moron, I still don't trust their defense but they also still have Aaron Rodgers. If their CB's can stay healthy and they can get something out of their pass rush this year, they should be considered one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl.

5. Baltimore- I haven't followed the Ravens very closely this off season but man were they dominant on defense in week 1. The Bengals aren't the regular season power house they were a couple years ago but I think they're at least still a respectable team.

6. Denver- Brandon Marshall is a difference maker for the Broncos. Their defense is always good but when he's in the line up, they might be the best in the league. Their offensive line is going to continue to hold this team back though. Siemian is fine, nothing special but good enough to be the QB behind an elite defense. They have to find a way to get their running game going or they will finish 3rd in the division again.

7. Dallas- Against a dominant defense Dak Prescott made plays when he had to and didn't turn the ball over and Zeke moved the chains. They still have one of the best offenses in the league but despite their defense looking great I think the bigger story is how bad the Giants were. It won't take long for them to get exposed but their offense will carry them.

8. New England- I'm sure most of this season they'll be a top 3 or top 5 team. Brady and Belichick are still there but you have to worry about what the Chiefs offense was able to do to them. They really missed guys like Collins and Chandler Jones last week because Alex Smith had forever in the pocket and Hunt just ran roughshod over them.

9. Atlanta- They didn't look great against the Bears, who were supposed to be one of the worst teams in the league going into the season, but Atlanta made plays at the end on defense to win the game and there were no turnovers on offense. A lot of times we see teams suffer a super bowl hangover but Atlanta took care of business.

10. Philadelphia- The Eagles receivers have clearly improved and it looks like Carson Wentz has too. He wasn't perfect but he made some big plays and put points on the board. The real story of the day for Philly was that defense though. Timmy Jernigan is probably going to end up being one of the biggest offseason moves of any team. They harassed Cousins all day long. The Skins offense couldn't get anything going.

11. Minnesota- Their defense picked up right where it left off last year as one of the best in the league. Offensively they took advantage of an easy match up against what could end up being the worst defense in football. I will say that I like their RB corps a lot. It's a dimension they needed to add seeing as how they have one of the worst starting QB's in the league.

12. Detroit- Matt Stafford got paid this offseason and I think he deserved it. They don't have any stars in their receiving corps but they have a really good group with a diverse skill set and Stafford makes use of all of them.

13. Seattle- They're going to make the playoffs because their division is garbage but their offense is a mess, their offensive line in particular. They're similar to the Giants but they Have Russell Wilson who can still make plays. They going home after Wild Card weekend.

14. Carolina- Something is still up with Newton, but I think their defense is going to be good again this year. They really looked like a 7-9 team this week. The team that went to the Super Bowl a couple years ago would have put up 40+ on the 9ers.

15. Los Angeles Chargers- Man they are very unlucky to play in that division because they're a pretty good football team. Their defense looks like it's pretty good and they still have Rivers who is also still pretty good.

16. Los Angeles Rams- If Goff can play even decently they have a defense that could maybe even contend for a division title. Watch out for this team. They could be a sleeper. Seattle fucking sucks.

I'm too lazy to do 32 teams so I'm stopping at 16. It's like playoff teams with honorable mentions included.

Chandler Jones' last snap as a Patriot was in January 2016. Jamie Collins' last snap as a Patriot was in October 2016. Considering they went 14-2 with a SB title last season, I don't think they really miss them too much.

1. :Chiefs: You beat the champs, you become the champs.

2. :Raiders: Derek Carr is good.

3. :Pats: I'm remiss to drop them too far down, they'll bounce back better than ever.

4. :Packers: Looking like the cream of NFC early on.

5. :Cowboys: Offense still looks damn good, but we'll see if their defense can put up the same results against the Broncos that they did against the giants.

6. :Eagles: I just love me some big black Fletcher Cox.

7. :Broncos: Slightly homer, defense is still good, offensive line is still questionable, but improved slightly. We aren't getting completely blown out of the box until the 4th Q.

8. :Vikings: Sam Bradford looked like the truth against the Saints Defense, but it's the Saints defense.

9. :Falcons: Tough game against the Bears, but they held out and won. Doesn't matter how ugly the wins are, as long as you win.

10. :panthers: Offense looked a little sluggish against San Fran, but that defense is a swarm. Can't wait to see what they do with those guys.

11. :Ravens: Not sure how fluky the bengals win was, but they bageled em. Maybe that defense is legit and I am disrespecting them. Joe Flacco got carried to playoff berths on his defense before.

12. :Chargers: Still super unlucky and will probably suck again this year. But Bosa and Ingram in tandem are good, and the injuries haven't piled up yet.

13. :Titans: That's Mark Mariota out there, doing decent work. he's alright.

14. :Lions: Rough start, but the richest player in the league recovered well and bounced back to a win.

15. :Steelers: Eh? I dunno. Roethlisberger looks like he's hitting that decline pretty hard, but the team around him is solid, and should carry him.

16. :jags: uh... was the Texans game a fluke or is their defensive line that good?

17. :dolphins: Currently Unknown

18. :Bucs: Currently unknown

19. :Rams: Blew the doors off the Colts but... they might be the worst team in the league. I don't trust em.

20. :Bills: Eh you beat a tanking team, you can be here if you want. I expect to drop them in the coming weeks

21. :Redskins: I just have a weird amount of faith in Kirk Cousins

22. :Seahawks: They should recover from their loss to the Pack, hopefully Wilson finds his groove against the Niners.

23. :Bears: This team showed more fight than I gave them credit for. Good work.

24. :Browns: DeShone Kizer did a good job in his debut, but the Browns are still at least a year away from the playoff chase. Still, if they can play their division rivals close, there is hope.

25. :Cardinals: Their season is over with David Johnson's injury. Hope was nice while it lasted.

26. :Saints: Defense is still as porous as ever, Adrian Peterson looks like shit, and Drew Brees has no receivers. So Business as usual.

27. :Jets: Sure, Josh McCown at least didn't look like the worst QB in the NFL, but they're still tanking.

28. :Bengals: How do you get bageled in the modern NFL? That just doesn't happen, what the hell Andy?

29. :Texans: They just got beaten down, and their offensive line is non existent.

30. :49ers: Not very good, and now that Reuben Foster is hurt, their positive vibes are gone.

31. :Giants: Double Yuck. The defense looks fine, but the offense might as well not even exist.

32. :Colts: Super Yuck. With Luck they are nothing.

Sean's insistence that Sam Bradford is a bad starting QB is asinine. Did Wentz look all that great with Ertz as his best offensive weapon? No. Bradford now has an even better TE and at least 3 WRs (once Floyd is back) that are noticeably better than Jordan Matthews has ever been.

You are the biggest homer on these boards if you think Sam Bradford looking decent for once against the Saints defense is enough to negate the body of work from the original Captain Checkdown.

How do you put the Steelers first when they almost got beat by DeShone Kizer in his first career start? I am not saying they are bad... but they didn't look #1 worthy to me.

He was good all last season. Also he now has 3 WRs and TE that are better than anybody he's had at those positions throughout his career

Yeah Bradford sucked with the Rams, sucked with the Eagles and sucked last year in Minnesota. The guy looks terrified every snap. He can be ok sometimes if his protection is perfect like it was in college. He has a nice arm but the guy has literally done nothing to suggest that he isn't a terrible starting QB outside of a couple games.

20 TDs versus 5 INTs with the worst OL in league history and no running game = not bad

Bradford's big problem is he's always been a coward and bad at moving the sticks. He did alright at that early last year, but it got worse as the season went on. Hopefully his bombs to Theilen and Diggs are a sign of good things to come for him.

Kaepernick goes for 16 TD's and 4 INT's one a worse team but he's not even good enough to be in the league according to you right? Nick Foles went 27/2 one year and where is he? Razor nailed it. Bradford plays scared and he always has. Edited by seanbrock

Power rankings are a silly thing in general, though fun to do.

Prior to week 4ish, though, they are just asinine.

I don't remember the last time I saw the Jags higher than the 28-32 range.

Supposed top-5 fantasy guy? You act like DJ wasn't the best player- fantasy or no- on the Cards offense and its not even close.

He was the best back in the league last year, IMO.

The Cardinals are done without DJ, period. If I'm Fitz I'm asking for a trade to a contender or retiring. They're cooked

I kinda have to agree with PE on this one, the multiquote feature is completely broken for me. Have the hardest time getting the damn thing to work.

1. :Chiefs: Best resume through week 2.

2. :Broncos: Siemian looks good, got a run game, and a defense.

3a. :Raiders: Derek Carr is legit, Marshawn looks to be back.

3b. :Pats: Got handled by the Chiefs but still clearly the team to beat.

5. :Falcons: Can't put too much stock in them since they were built to beat the Packers, we'll see how they hold up.

6. :Ravens: Still need to see them face a good team but clearly this is going to be a tough team to beat.

7. :Eagles: Played the Chiefs tough, looking really good.

8. :Titans: Still all in on the Titans

9. :Bucs: Too high? Probably but the offense will be hard to stop.

10. :Lions: 2-0, beat two teams that were supposed to be good but look bad.

11. :panthers: Soft schedule so far, good defense, upside on offense.

12. :Steelers: Hey can't hate on 2-0 but they haven't exactly dazzled on offense like they should.

13. :Packers: Merely here because Rodgers but with the injuries and poor secondary, they currently have a low ceiling.

14. :Vikings: Looked great vs the Saints, played sloppy @ Pittsburgh, need Bradford to get healthy.

15. :Cowboys: Big loss, defensive questions, but still a team to be reckoned offensively.

16. :Seahawks: Been uninspiring at best but lucky for them...that is the theme of their division.

17. :dolphins: Beat the Chargers as they always do, but should have lost.

18. :Redskins: Redskins defense looks improved, not looking too bad.

19. :Rams: Goff & Defense need to step up if they want to be good this year.

20. :Bills: Not looking good or bad

21. :jags: Head to head over Houston

22. :Texans: Need another week

23. :Chargers: Prove you can actually win a game

24. :Cardinals: Ok you beat the Colts, so what?

25. :Giants:

26. :Bears:

27. :Browns:

28. :Colts: Maybe not a laughing stock with Brisset?

29. :Saints:

30. :49ers:

31. :Jets:

32. :Bengals:

(-) 1. :Chiefs: Good strong win against the Eagles, still top spot until they do something terribly wrong.

(-) 2. :Raiders: AFC West is gonna be a real dog fight, the Raiders gave the Jets the spaking they deserved.

(-) 3. :Pats: Nothing like the Saints defense to cure an ailing offense.

(+5) 4. :Falcons: The offense is back and better than ever. Got to love the way they blew GB out in their home opener.

(+2) 5. :Broncos: Dominant performance by the defense, solid performance by the offense. The loss of Bolles hurts a lot, but if Siemian and the Defense can continue to play well... Look out.

(+5) 6. :Ravens: That defense is playing unreal right now. They should trash the Jags in London as well.

(+6) 7. :Titans: They look like the favourites to win the AFC South right now.

(+6) 8. :Lions: They took the Giants to task, and Stafford is looking comfortable in the pocket.

(+1) 9. :panthers: They're 2-0 somehow. Great defensive play, but the offense looks like it belongs back in college. The Saints will make them look good again though.

(-4) 10. :Eagles: Tough loss to the Chiefs, but they showed a lot of fight throughout, and had a chance right until the very end.

(+7) 11. :Bucs: That defense looks amazing, and the offense still shows flashes of brilliance from time to time. The Bucs could rise even higher if they get that offense thing figured out.

(+3) 12. :Steelers: They're a very unimpressive 2-0. Wins are wins, but they beat a rookie during his first start, and career retread Case Keenum. Luckily their schedule continues to be easy, I doubt the Bears pose much of a threat to them.

(-9) 13. :Packers: The Packers look a little sluggish coming out of the gates, hopefully Aaron finds that chip that's supposed to be on his shoulder and carries the Packers on his back again soon.

(+3) 14. :dolphins: Good solid win against the Chargers, means the Dolphins are at least a solid team.

(-7) 15. :Vikings: They looked pathetic without Bradford in. Truly the darkest timeline. This offensive line still needs time to gel, but the season isn't so merciful.

(-11) 16. :Cowboys: For the first time in his career, Ezekiel Elliott looked like a mortal man, and he pouted and whined because of it. The Cowboys never show up with back to back winning seasons, time to see how Dak responds when there is some legitimate pressure on his back.

(+4) 17. :Redskins: My weird amount of faith was rewarded. Good hard fought game with the Rams, and they're rewarded with a primetime showdown against the Raiders. Yikes.

(+4) 18. :Seahawks: No matter what garbage the 49ers trot out, the Seahawks struggle. Hopefully this just means the 49ers are a tough rival for them, or this is gonna be a long season for the 12s.

(-) 19. :Rams: No change. They're still alright, my predilection to put them hear after thrubbing the Colts was correct is all.

(-4) 20. :jags: Defense is doing a good job, but it can't keep that offense in games against good teams. Sorry Jags fans, you had a smidgen of hope, but it's gone now.

(-9) 21. :Chargers: Anytime you want to finish a game, go right ahead.

(-2) 22. :Bills: They may be tanking, but they're hanging around against teams they probably shouldn't be. Still don't have a great read on the depths of their badness yet.

(+6) 23. :Texans: The Oline is in shambles, but DeShaun Watson has flashes of playmaker ability written all over him. This is like if the Texans had just drafted Vince Young way back in 2006. (and had a good defense)

(+2) 24. :Saints: Same old story with the Saints. Brees is good, defense is shit, 4-6 win season.

(0) 25. :Cardinals: You beat the Colts! Somehow.

(-3) 26. :Bears: Oh no, Mike Glennon is who we though he was. Whoops.

(+3) 27. :49ers: Good fight against the Seahawks, but the reason they go up is because every other team sucks.

(-4) 28. :Browns: Kizer looked like a rookie last week. Sure he had a migraine, but that's no excuse to turn the ball over so much.

(-1) 29. :Bengals: Marvin Lewis needed to be gone like 8 years ago. Yeah he's had a job since 2003, that's longer than Cherry has been alive!

(-3) 30. :Jets: Their tanking was made obvious on sunday. Somehow they still aren't the worst team in the league.

(-) 31. :Giants::puke:

(-) 32. :Colts: No amount of biscuits can make a bad team come to play. They can't draft, they rarely get quality free agents, and Luck isn't around to carry their sorry asses.

I think Dan Quinn is becoming one of the best coaches in the league. Falcons looked so good this week. They didn't miss Shannahan and they are decidedly not suffering from the Super Bowl slump. Their defense isn't elite but man they can fly.
