Rudeness. In any case, we had a lot of big leapers this week. Jared Goff eviscerated the Giants, Jay Cutler went ham on the Raiders, hell even Matt Stafford and Carson Wentz got healthy boosts against their opponents this week. Alex Smith still holds the top position with an iron fist, but with his first INT this week, there's a chance he could fall behind the rest of the pack. We've still got half a season to go after all, and anything can happen.

The real interesting battle is between the three sophomore QB's. Normally you expect the sophomore slump to be in full force, but Dak, Wentz, and Goff have all been hovering around the top ten all season long, and now all three of them are in the top 6. That's crazy.

Sorry for the long delay, shit happens. In any case, there was a lot of flux in the NFL over the past week. Alex Smith threw his first multi INT game against the lowly Giants, and has been knocked off his top spot for the first time since week 2. Tom Brady still looks immortal back there, and has rebought his spot at the top of the heap. Other young fan favorites took a big tumble, Dak Prescott falling off the top ten entirely without his Zeke (and after thanksgiving the trend will continue), Marcus Mariota practically gave the Steelers a victory last week, and Derek Carr became the unfortunate target of a rejuvenated patriots defense.

Jay Cutler took a large tumble as well, or as we call it in the business, a regression to the mean. Brock Osweiler, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tom Savage all make their first appearances on this list and boy howdy are they stinking up the joint. Well, not so much Fitzpatrick actually, but he's currently on the "plays well enough to steal a starting job after the starter gets hurt" part of his cycle right now. The race for the bottom got a whole lot more interesting with the new additions these past few weeks.

And at roughly the 2/3rds mark of the season, I present you with the current Accrued Value over Time marks for every QB who has been on the rankings so far. I've made a significant adjustment for season ending injuries, which is why players like Aaron Rodgers and Deshaun Watson are a lot lower on the list, despite consistently ranking highly. I haven't put any adjustments in for Jameis yet, but if he does continue to miss time I will drop him further. Players who have been benched, like Hoyer, Glennon and Siemian have little need for adjustment, because they are bringing up the rear on these sorts of things, and as such, the points they get from week to week aren't all that high to begin with.

Week 11 AVoT:

No rebound for Smith, and Brady is starting to pull away from the rest of the pack. Rivers was our big leaper for the week after demolishing the Cowboys on thanksgiving, while Fitzpatrick, Newton and Trubisky took fairly large tumbles.

Alex Smith came roaring back this week in an attempt to retake the top spot. Brady's hold is tenuous heading into the final quarter of the season. Kirk Cousins took a big tumble to tenth, and Russell Wilson went into the top 5 for the first time this season. Aaron Rodgers has been hovering near the top since his injury, but he's looking to come back for the last three games, and he could make his own push for the top spot. It's gonna be a hell of a battle.

Blaine Gabbert is the 40th QB to make an appearance on this list and he's not doing too too badly so far. Considering where we usually see him, he might be a decent backup QB in this league. That's more than I thought possible, that's for sure.

That 5 INT game against the Jags is dragging him. Otherwise, the gap between 5 and 14 is actually really small right now. A few strong performances to close out the season and it's not impossible to see Big Ben in the top 10.

Out of curiosity, I did run the numbers, and without that Jags game, Ben would be 5th in my rankings, between Keenum and Aaron Rodgers. So... yeah, food for thought.

Any chance when the season is over that you could do 1st half rankings and 2nd half rankings? Say Week 1-8 and then week 9 to the end?

I'd be interested to see those splits.

I could probably manage something like that.

Week 1-8 split is just my QB rankings at week 8, so I really only have to do some work for the second half.

Thanks for that explanation. Figures, that's the only game anyone wants to talk about this year. The entire team got buttfucked. I stilll say Ben was really not the crux of the problem.

I would be really interested in the 2nd half rankings as well.

Just because it's late in the season doesn't mean there isn't room for the rankings to shake up drastically. The gap between 5 and 17 (Goff and Wilson) is smaller than the gap between 4 and 5 right now, which is pretty wild. Cam Newton and Brock Osweiler are our big risers of the week, jumping many places with dominant performances against garbage football squads. Meanwhile it was clear that Rodgers was rushed back to the field too soon, as he comes in basically just to drop out of the top 10. Rivers choked against the Chiefs, Cutler regressed to form against the Bills, Blaine Gabbert has returned to his rightful place in the bottom of the pack, and even Derek Carr and Mitch Trubisky took some fairly sizeable tumbles. However the biggest drop of the week is Russell Wilson, who went from potential MVP candidate to white dogshit. The Rams defense took him to task and this result might make the Seahawks miss the playoffs for the first time in the Wilson era.

Crazy stuff.

With the penultimate week of the regular season over, the chase is really getting crazy now. Alex Smith, Tom Brady, and Drew Brees have been dueling at the top all season, but with the 49ers starting the heir apparent this late in the season, there is still an outside shot we could see Jimmy Geesus hold the number one spot at the end of the season. That would certainly be a wild finish to this season.

Our big riser this week is Ben Roethlisberger, who essentially swapped spots with Dakota Prescott this week. With HFA still on the line for the Steelers, and a game against the lowly browns on the schedule, Ben might not be done rising. He doesn't want the AFC to forget who he is, it seems. Prescott tumbles out of the top 10, and the Cowboys tumble out of the playoffs entirely, blowing their prayer of a shot. Russell Wilson and Matt Stafford make a quick swap as well, despite the Seahawks having more penalty yards than offensive yards, Wilson still makes a small climb up.

Joe Flacco is trying to get out of the quagmire of suck in his last few weeks of the season and sort of look like a playoff caliber QB. Meanwhile Brett Hundley cannot play football in Lambeau, and is trying really hard to be the worst QB in football this season. If only he didn't have to compete with the likes of DeShone Kizer, Tom Savage, and Blaine Gabbert. Nick Foles, Bryce Petty and TJ Yates are all on pace to make appearances on this list for the last week of the season, so get hyped to see how the worst of the worst shake up.

Razor, what happens to the list if you eliminate each QB's worst game? Or maybe their best and worst game? Too much work?

17 weeks down, and Alex Smith holds onto his top spot, never falling out of the top 2 all season long. It's rare that you see a guy hold onto the spot all season long, but Smith managed to do it. Brady recovered from his poor start to give Smith a hell of a run, but he faded towards the end of the season as the cold weather sent many of his passes errant and overhead. Drew Brees was steady all season long, and while he wasn't throwing for 5000 yards like we're used to seeing from him, he had a remarkably efficient season, aided by the best defense and run game he's had in a long time.
Meanwhile, the big shifters for this final week are Philip Rivers and Matt Stafford, who despite being eliminated from postseason contention, came out swinging against their division rivals to put the nails in their season. Meanwhile, Kirk Cousins and Cam Newton took big tumbles as they had what could easily be the worst games of their respective careers. Cousins may have only been playing for pride behind a heavily injured offensive line, but the Panthers had a division title (and would have been the 3 seed) on the line if they had won. Andy Dalton's heroics didn't get him a higher ranking on the list, but it did earn him the lifelong admiration of all Buffalo Fans.
The battle for the worst concluded, as DeShone Kizer pulled himself up by the bootstraps and had a marginal game against the Steelers backups and got out of the bottom spot. That means of all the poor QB's who have played this year, Tom Savage claims the title as the worst, edging out Kizer, Gabbert and last year's Booby Prize winner Bryce Petty.
I'll get on doing the Second Half Rankings, the Best and Worst games removed Rankings, and the final AVoT list.
