Weren't there reports that the Browns were offering a lot more than that before the draft?

Lets see what he has got! I like the trade for the 49ers.

Edit: Maybe not, he is on an expiring contract

The report I'm seeing is that they also offered a 2nd. Given that the Pats had 0 chance of keeping him unless Brady retired, it's pretty impressive they could snag a 2nd rounder.

That's not too much of a concern I'm because the 9ers have a ton of cap space for one. They have a lot of leverage in contract negotiations for a guy who has started, what, 3 games. They'll have to pay him at least 10 million a year but that could mean they have a good QB at a 50% discount for 2 or 3 years. If he sucks it won't kill them too much and they could draft a QB in 2019 or 2020 and cut bait on Jimmy G.

Garropolo is gonna be playing for the 49ers this year. Unless he's complete trash, he'll be getting Osweiller money.

This trade makes sense for both teams, but it does seem awfully risky for the Patriots to not have a viable backup to Brady, doesn't it? I guess if you're going to gamble on someone, gamble on Tom Brady.

For the Niners, they spend a 2nd-round pick on a guy who's played in the NFL a few years and didn't look bad. Now they don't have to risk a QB with their 1st-rounder and get get a guy like Barkley.

Pats defense and offensive weapons is bad enough that they aren't good with Hoyer or Garropolo. If Brady goes down they're done.

The Sacramento Bee speculates Jimmy Garoppolo will not make his 49ers debut before Week 12.

Reporter Matt Barrows reached the conclusion after parsing coach Kyle Shanahan's Tuesday words. It would make sense, as it would give Garoppolo two weeks to learn the system before the 49ers' Week 11 bye. Quarterback plans can change in a hurry, but the go-nowhere 49ers have little reason to force Garoppolo onto the field before he's ready. Waiting until Week 12 would still give them six games of evaluation.

Isn't it the same west coast system the Pats play?

From my understanding Pats run more stuff over the middle in passing game + exploit seams more. Shanny gonna make it work tho.
