Is there NOW a case for Case?

Recommended Posts

I didn't want to believe it, but after the past 4 games, I'm starting to think Case Keenum might actually be a good quarterback in this offensive system. With these weapons around him. With this offensive line in front of him. I don't think he's successful at all in a shittier environment, but then again, there's like 5 quarterbacks in this league who are good no matter the circumstances, and even in lesser circumstances, they are lesser players, if only marginally.

Anyway, my point is, I am not certain that the Vikings have a better option unless Bradford can return at 100% come playoff time, and that just isn't feasible. And it's not like Bradford can move around in the pocket like Keenum can, anyway. He gets rid of the ball quicker, but he won't escape so many sack opportunities for the defense.

Case Keenum has been better than Teddy ever was so far. His arm is better. His mobility, at this point, is probably better. He makes better use of his weapons than Teddy ever did. I'd like for Teddy to be our starting quarterback at some point to see if he can become a franchise signal-caller, but at this point in time I'm happy to roll with Case if he continues to play at this level. It's not that crazy to think he could, either. If he's good to lead at least 3 TD drives a game, this Vikings defense can do the rest, especially if they can get their FG kicking game straightened out after a pair of rough weeks that don't completely fall on the shoulders of Forbath.

What do the rest of you think?

I think he has to be at least decent because it is not like the Vikings offensive personell is anything to write home about.

I'll be rooting for the Vikings so long as Case remains the starter. Been a fan of his since his college days at UH. Glad to see the lightbulb finally flash on for him.

Coming from that college spread, it was like the Texans actually got to him too early, like a high school girlfriend. There was no doubting his passing ability, but his biggest flaw with the Texans was that he couldn't read and react against NFL defenses.

No way I'd even consider Bridgewater or Bradford, unless Keenum just has some completely collapsing breakdown over the next few weeks.

Yeah, I was about to say, I wouldnt even think about putting Bradford in. Pay the man, he is still under 30 and looking like a master in this offense

Pretty much this. He was setting records and shit in college and I thought for sure he would fall because of his height and just be Brees 2.0. (tbh I hope Teddy comes back because Keenum is on my short list if Ben retires)

The cynic in me is holding back and accepting Case is good. I just don't want to be hurt again. :(

From what I read on twitter Case had like 9 dropped interceptions just through the Green Bay game. Doesn't sound like he's changed a ton to me(even if he is playing better the past couple weeks), just sounds like he's luckier this year.

It's a catch 22 imo. I haven't seen enough of Keenum to say weather it's the weapons the Vikings have in the passing game or Case, but at the same time it's not easy to find guys who can get those weapons the ball. When you go to pay a QB you have to evaluate whether he's the kind of player who makes the guys around him better. Watching that Detroit game man, it's pretty crazy how wide open Thielen gets. He's just absolutely one of the best route runners in the game and Diggs is so dynamic. He can turn any reception into a TD. Dalvin Cook will be back next year too.

I mean, those of us who are reasonable football observers know how terrible Sam Bradford is and those guys made him look great. The Vikings also have Bridgewater. I think with an offseason of mini camp and training camp and preseason he could be ready to start if he can still play. I admit the jury is still out on that one but maybe you just continue to build up that line and go with Teddy rather than paying Keenum a ton of money.

I think the coaching staff has done a good job planning for Case's strengths and weaknesses against whatever team they face. Dunno if it's that Case is suddenly better. We do have a lot of great weapons on offense, which is weird to say.
