People are losing their minds at Bortles for the throw Gilmore elevated with a DPI and knocked away. He couldn't lead Westbrook any more than that or it'd have been uncatchable, plus he had to throw it on the run because of pressure.

Blake Bortles was great over these last two postseason games, and was better this season than anyone will give him credit for with sub par receivers or young, talented, but inexperienced receivers like Westbrook. He's earned another year.

Bortles is average at best.

Your great QB's in this league would've done more on that final drive, he's replaceable and with the options this offseason at QB... the Jags can def upgrade.

Why would you not upgrade just about the only thing that is holding you back outside of some on the offensive line?

You'd be foolish not to.

Defense wins championships but this is a QB driven league.

See Minnesota. When your defense decides to shit the bed... it's gonna be your offense that has to bear the burden.

Yeah Bortles has some solid games this season and in the playoffs but he is so darn inconsistent. Im not sure how the jags can move forward with confidence in Bortles.

Now that the 2017 season has ended for the Jaguars, a critical decision has moved immediately to the top of the to-do list. What to do with quarterback Blake Bortles?

As a top-10 pick in 2014, Bortles is entitled to a fully-guaranteed fifth-year option of $19 million for 2018. The Jaguars can avoid that only by cutting him on or before the start of the league year in March.

They could sign him to a long-term deal with $19 million as a starting point. They could choose to pay him the 2018 salary and kick the can for a year, setting the stage for a franchise-tag face-off in 2019. Or they could cut him before the money becomes guaranteed, thrusting him into the open market before the market officially opens and hoping to re-sign him to a multi-year deal reflected by the interest, or lack thereof, in his services.

There’s a fourth option: Cut him and move on to someone else. Someone they would trust to do something other than take a knee twice with 55 seconds left in the first half of an AFC title game. Someone who could chew time off the clock late in the fourth quarter of a championship game with a three-point lead. Someone who could lead the team down the field with a four-point deficit and a Super Bowl berth in the balance.

Only the Jaguars coaches and front-office staff fully appreciate the lengths to which the offense went to accentuate Bortles’ strengths and conceal his weaknesses. Only executive V.P. of football operations Tom Coughlin knows whether and to what extent Bortles compares favorably at this point in his career to Eli Manning, who has shown not once but twice that he can do what needs to be done to deliver victory against New England in a fairly big spot.

Whether it’s Bortles or Eli or someone else, the most important position in pro football becomes the most pressing question for the Jaguars. And if they pick the right one, they could be one of the two teams getting ready for Super Bowl LIII, only 52 weeks from now.

Are you telling me Bware that Bortles is worth 19 million or a long term deal?

If you say yes...

I think BWare is the only one advocating keeping Bortles.

And that should settle the case.

I mean, you do it if you strike out on bringing in someone else (though for me that's a pretty short list. Alex Smith. No Cousins. I'm sorta intrigued by bringing in a dude like Bridgewater, even though I didn't like him when he was healthy, just cuz he's young), but he shouldn't be the first plan.

Bridgewater is a guy who wants to play and who wants to win. You don't need someone coming in just looking to get paid.

The Jags as a whole are hungry. I see Teddy being a good fit, I could see a rookie being a good fit too.

Risky business bringing in a big time FA though...

That was on the fumble recovery. I understand why it was blown dead because live it sure looked like that. But when Jack actually gets possession of the ball, Lewis is no longer touching him. Should have been a TD for the Jags which would have put them up 27-10 at that point and Prisco is right, game would have been over at that point almost certainly.

Although Brady still would have had 11 minutes or so to come back and given that he had the ball last and given that the ensuing Jags drive which ran about 90 seconds off the clock wouldn't have happened, I think he still has a shot, but definitely a very very long shot.

To be fair, however, looking at the rule there is a provision for taking a ball from a player while that player is on the ground that seems to indicate Jack was correctly ruled down by contact.
