Vin+ 3,121 Posted February 3, 2018 Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti said Ozzie Newsome will step down as GM next year. He'll transition into a consultant/evaluator role after the 2018 season. "He'll be the highest paid scout in the league," said Bisciotti. Newsome will be succeeded by Eric DeCosta, who has served as the Ravens' assistant GM since 2012. It's been a successful run for Newsome, who has led Baltimore to a pair of Super Bowls since joining the organization in 1996. However, after missing the playoffs four of the last five years, it may be time for a new voice to lead the front office. Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted February 3, 2018 Getting Thompson'd... Makes sense after the Packers wanted to interview their #2 and wouldn't let it happen.
Omerta+ 1,206 Posted February 3, 2018 I like this move a lot. I think Ozzie is still one of the best overall in the game, but he has some problems that he needs to correct. He is n o longer the best fit for the Ravens. If you have a team with a franchise QB and WR and need to build around that, you cant do any better imo. Ozzie will find everything else, especially offensive and defensive line. The thing is the Ravens have that in spades. We have a super stacked RB, OL, Dline, D, S, and cornerback position. Any one of those groups when healthy is top 5 in the league. ITs that we are so low at WR, average at QB, and we pay aging greats, and hang on to shitty coaches too long. We need a new and innovative guy who will take some riskier moves in the draft ala the Julio Jones trade to get that gamebreaker. I think DeCosta is the right man for the job and I think he is going to do very well given a little while to settle down. And he is young so I am excited at the possibility of having a top flight GM for 30 years. The most important part of that State of the Ravens press conference was him saying he was close to firing Harbaugh but not THIS year. I am going to be so happy when that no talent hack job kicks rocks.
