Thanatos 2,847 Posted March 23, 2018 I don't know if people here have heard much about this case, but there is a comedian who is going to jail because he made an offensive joke. He made his girlfriend's pug do nazi salutes while using the phrase "gas the Jews" as the "trigger" for the dog to do it. The whole point was mocking and making fun of those kinds of people, and also to make a joke at his girlfriend. He was found guilty last week of a "grossly offensive act" with both the judge and the prosecution saying that context is irrelevant. He is to be sentenced sometime in April, he could go to jail for up to a year. Folks, if someone doesn't have the freedom of speech to say something grossly offensive, then freedom of speech does not exist. I expected Jonathan Pie to have something to say about this- I linked him before after Trump won, he's the guy who called on liberals to stop labeling their opponents and actually try to open a dialogue. He is essentially the left's version of Jordan Peterson. This video nails it here:
RazorStar 4,025 Posted March 23, 2018 (edited) If they aren't jailing people for being idiots, they shouldn't start now. Just because a joke falls completely flat doesn't mean you should be imprisoned for it. Though I will admit, it is very difficult to ever take the phrase "gas the jews" in a humorous context. PhilElliot 65 Posted March 23, 2018 Since when does someone need legal approval to speak as they choose? Lol at thinking they need to reference "freedom of speech", to have freedom of speech. That's how mentally imprisoned by imaginary bricks, we've become.
Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted March 24, 2018 (edited) I don't think the video is even that bad. I mean... You aren't going to see me making a video like that, not something I died laughing at or even something I would share with friends. I can see how people would call it insensitive or offensive or in poor taste but... that's about where it ends. And I want to emphasize something Than's bro Pie says... You had a judge say that context and circumstances were irrelevant. I don't think Scotland is a place I want to go. Put it on the list with Florida. seanbrock 1,684 Posted March 24, 2018 Legislating morals in a liberal way could end up being way more dangerous than a theocracy. This is a dangerous road to go down. I hope people understand that they're being used before it's too late.
BwareDWare94 723 Posted March 25, 2018 How in the hell can one be convicted of a crime for a "grossly offensive act?"This is satire, right?

I hope people understand that they're being used before it's too late. too late? everyones got a fucking homing/ surveillancedevice in their home and has for years! everything you do is logged. theyve been legislating morals since the old west was finally able to get people to follow sheriffs rules. they incorporated religion with the law to make people think it was the right thing to do to let man make you a slave to govt because it will be better when you die, they said. govt tells you, you need to pay them to make your marriage legal. To live in a home..to work. everything you do is legislated. Therefore, everything you think is.. even if not literally..yet. youre complaining about the possibility of it coming to fruition..but youll never actually do anything and just take the chains they give you if it happens 2
seanbrock 1,684 Posted March 25, 2018 It's definitely troubling to see whistleblowers jailed and not tried under the espionage act and stuff like that but it can get worse. I think it can get better but it can most definitely get worse.
Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted March 25, 2018 Obama went so ham on whistleblowers . I actually havent paid as much attention to it under Trump because of everything else going on. Wouldnt shock me to see him continuing that though.
OSUViking 505 Posted March 25, 2018 We need more whistleblowers. I think it's disgusting that people think whistleblowers are horrible humans because the government tells them to think that. I get that they're technically violating a plethora of laws, and there are consequences to whistleblowing, but the fact that people don't even process the information before labeling them traitors is ridiculous.
