Straight Up - Who is the best QB in this class?

I like to believe that the actually evaluators having the discussions at team facilities knew all along the flaws, pros, and cons of all these prospects and whenever stock goes up and down it's really just media hype because NFL teams know talent. But, the truth is we will never really know unless we work for these teams. With that being said I believe NFL teams had him as a first round talent all along, but the interviews and his personality turned them off not his pro day. A top 5-10 pick you are saying he comes in today and starts. In the driver seat as a franchise QB and risk everyone's job. Do you really feel Bridgewater could step in and be the face of these teams picking 1-10? Yes. But you don't throw him in the deep end. Let him hold a clipboard for a while until he assimilates the system and the team, etc. Rogers sat behind Farve for 3 years? You would have to say it worked. Having said that, you don't waste a top 10 pick on a prospect that has to sit for a year.

Straight Up - Who is the best QB in this class?

Absolutely agree. The silly argument I sometimes see over on the Texans board is that it ain't worth taking a QB because they are not "locks" at QB. I argue with them saying how long are you gonna wait to take one? And even if a "lock" QB came along, if you are not the #1 pick, and the team at #1 needs a QB, then you are gonna wait another three or more years for another opportunity. I am a believer in the right system for the QB - you can't fit a square peg in a round hole and don't throw him off the deep end if he ain't ready or if you have a bad line.

McShay & Kiper 3 Round Mock

That would be golden for Texans, but Bridgewater falling to #33? Smoke and mirrors. He WILL be the first QB off the board. Jags, Browns or Oakland will take him. I can see the headlines - Texans bamboozled out of best QB since Luck and Griffin.

QB Hand size vs Height: Draft Value

Yeah like butta55 said. Also if you look at who Thomas had around him last year it was all freshman/sophomores who had no idea where to to go, what routes to run, that entire team was a travesty. It's still just an excuse though, and Thomas wasn't good enough to overcome that so he's obviously not that great of a player yet. But this is pointing out he's the best piece of clay to mold if you grab him in the middle to late rounds. That's why whoever it was that drafted Thomas in the mock draft game here I congratulated the value he got. If I'm gonna pick up a day 3 QB give me the guy with rare physical measureables so I can coach him up and see what can possibly come of him. If he doesn't pan out oh well it's just a day 3 pick, those don't pan out at a good % rate anyways. I could have a two hour discussion on Logan Thomas. Maybe one of the most interesting prospects (hear that alot in this draft), because he does have rare size and if you've seen him run you know he knows how to use it. But beyond the typical dual threat college QB he has very good patience and progression when in the pocket. He is not going to lock on to one guy and run around until he is open, Thomas actually has shown the ability to line up against a defense with some standard route concepts, read the defensive coverage and take what they give him, The problem with Logan is that when the ball comes out I don't think anyone but Jesus knows where it's gonna end up going. He flashes the top level arm strength and accuracy to fit it in between a half-way rolled up car window and out the other side. And then he shows you he can throw it into a pool and miss the water. There can be a number of reasons, but sometimes people just aren't NFL caliber players and whatever team grabs him will already believe they know the problem...they have the solution....and they have the staff to execute fixing him. That's pretty much the way I saw it too. If he IS fixable, he could be pretty decent. Fortunately for my team, we have a guy who fancies himself as a bit of a QB fixer upper... :allhail:

QB Hand size vs Height: Draft Value

Nice work dude. Doesn't Logan Thomas have chronic accuracy issues yet by the graphic, he has the biggest hands...? Perhaps he is just raw and needs a decent QB coach to help him with throwing mechanics.

An insane person thinks Tom Savage should be the first QB drafted

O'Brien indicated he had Savage in his sights about 8 weeks ago when he was about the 5-6 round range. I seriously doubt he is interested in taking him higher than one of our 4's now. #33 for Texans is wayyyy too valuable to fritter away on anything less than BPA or as close as possible to a priority need. They may even trade down with it to get an extra high round pick.

Falcons Looking At The #1 Pick?

They take Watkins #2 and shoot for Zack Martin (Guard) at #13. Guard is a need. Conversely, they take Greg Robinson (RT) at #2 and shoot for Mike Evans at #13.

Falcons Looking At The #1 Pick?

Rams are in the driver's seat in this draft as I don't see many teams willing to trade into #1. If there was an Andrew Luck type lock at QB, there would likely be several teams vying for him already and Texans would likely not want to trade out at any price unless it was an offer they couldn't refuse. A trade with Rams makes sense as it would not cost the earth to get into #2. I think Rams may be after Watkins to give Bradford another weapon to throw to - that way they can be certain if Bradford will be their guy moving forward.

Falcons Looking At The #1 Pick?

Goat Sampson is pretty much on the money with all four points. Just on the 3rd q, Bortles would likely be the target, but if they trade down, it would not surprise me in the least if they grab Aaron Donald. The guy has no red flags or question marks and his situation is remarkably reminiscent of JJ Watt a few draft's back. He has the motor, skills and versatility to warrant a very high pick in this draft.
  10. I think Donald will be one of the three best players to come out of this draft - the team that gets him will have an instant quality starter - a true plug-and-play guy.
  11. Some real nasty up front with RaShead Hageman would also be good for Broncs. I am hoping he falls to #33 for the Texans. I've really been loving this pick since you mentioned it a while back. Dug into him a lil bit and like everything about him. I need to see him play beside Terrance Knighton in JDR's D. It would be like Stroud and Henderson all over again, but with great pass-rushers on the outside and a good secondary. I WANTS. I don't blame you. He should be available for Texans around the #33 mark and if you watched JJ Watt last season, he was constantly double and even triple teamed. Some extra nasty up front would release the Kraken - what a formidable front those two would make!

Straight Up - Who is the best QB in this class?

You have McCarron a couple tiers too high... You know what though, now that I think about I think I do have him ONE tier too high. I'm gonna edit and put him in Tier 5. I don't think McCarron is too bad either. He may be a bit vanilla, but he is a decent game manager and won't lose you too many games. Surround him with some decent support in the right system and he should grow into a serviceable signal caller.
  13. Why not? Not much else to do but wait. I'll take a stab with Carlos Hyde and Kelvin Benjamin. I'll also make a bold prediction for Aaron Donald - he goes as high as #5 - call it the "Watt Effect".
  14. Would Falcon fans be upset if FO traded up to #1 for Clowney - considering it will likely cost them dearly?

Straight Up - Who is the best QB in this class?

It all boils down to working WITH your QB - if he has failings or weak areas, you try to stay away from them in game play and work on them in practice. You can't put a square peg in a round hole. You mold your system around the strengths of your QB, not the other way around - so that means the HC's need to carefully scrutinise the candidates and choose the one he feels most closely allies with his ideas and workings. Then you surround him with tools to succeed - like weapons to throw to and blockers and a decent running game to fall back on when situations demand it. It's common sense, not rocket science.
  16. Some real nasty up front with RaShead Hageman would also be good for Broncs. I am hoping he falls to #33 for the Texans.
  17. Browns and Rams both have a great opportunity to greatly improve in this draft. If Browns hit on a winner with a QB they will be trouble. Rams need a big time weapon for Bradshaw and if Watkins is it, they too will be dangerous next season. Both these teams are only one or two pieces from championship seasons - maybe not SB, but divisional for sure.
  18. #1/R1. Jadeveon Clowney. DE/OLB Texans need some extra pass rush badly. That will indirectly help all aspects of their D. #33/R2. Jimmy Garoppolo. QB is a no brainer for Texans and Jimmy G has a lot of potential. (The top four have gone already) #65/R3. Joel Bitonio RT Texans Oline was shown up last season so a quality healthy olineman is a necessity. #97/R4. Marcus Roberson CB Our secondary was also second rate last season. R4 (comp.) Justin Ellis DT Texans have taken two backups from FA, but now need a front liner. High effort guy. #129/R5. Andrew Jackson ILB Small school wonder. His tackling technique is nigh perfect and rushes well also. Each one of these picks is a need. There are others but these are the biggies.

Texans sign Ryan Fitzpatrick to 2-year deal

I'm starting to come to terms that if I were to bet money on who goes #1, I'd put it on Clowney. If for whatever stupid reason Bridgewater drops, I'd be freakin' ecstatic to get him at #33. I'm a big fan of Murray when it comes to the "second tier" quarterbacks in this draft class. Not particularly high on Mettenberger myself. I'm pretty high on Murray - I think he will be very successful in the NFL under the right coach in the right scheme. He has a sweet back shoulder fade and QB smarts. Mett will likely need a little more polishing but I see him as a Matt Schaub type player with a big arm. If TB gets past Arizona then there is a big chance he falls to #33 and that would be golden for Texans. I hope another player at their biggest need is available so they have to pass on him - that is the beauty of this draft, there is so much quality in the first round especially that teams will likely be practically forced to go BPA.

Texans sign Ryan Fitzpatrick to 2-year deal

Hey a Texans fan! Welcome to the boards. I'm in the Bridgewater fan club. Manziel scares the shit outta me... You know, I used to be exactly the same way about Manziel. But I started seriously investigating the top ten QB's in the draft and I came to the conclusion that Manziel does have "it" factor out the wazoo. I started thinking if there was a chance for Texans to hit on paydirt with a QB to be the catalyst for a big turnaround for Texans, Manziel would be the most likely to be that spark. Manziel is the only other #1 I would consider besides Clowney. Of course, the best scenario for Texans is to trade down for extra picks. I would take Clowney, and hope that Bridgewater fell down to us at #33. If we miss TB top of the second, we wait for Mettenberger or Murray.

Texans sign Ryan Fitzpatrick to 2-year deal

Well obviously. All I was saying is that it's not the end of the world if he's the Week 1 starter as opposed to T.J. Yates or Case Keenum. If they go QB at #1 (Likely Bortles) then yes he would be the starter from the get-go. I don't think Bortles will be ready week 1. Manziel and Bridgewater otoh can be. The only pick I think Texans can justify over Clowney is Manziel. Of the top three QB's, Manziel has the "it" factor, while Bridgewater is the most NFL ready now. Bortles holds the clipboard until you feel comfortable with giving him a shot and with #1 pick, I don't think you can afford that.

How did you find out about TGP?

Welcome aboard and nice avatar Thanks man. He's my favourite player in the whole NFL. Eagles were my first team when I moved to the States - still have a soft spot for them!

    Who will bust?

The op asks "Who will bust?" I'll go the other way - who will boom:- Jadeveon Clowney will awake and shine.. Greg Robinson will be solid. Sammy Watkins will be a star. Jake Matthews will be solid. Khalil Mack will be good. Manziel will have a rough start but will turn into a franchise player. Anthony Barr will be very good after a couple of seasons. Aaron Donald will be a stud. Darquese Dennard will be very competitive. Louis Nix III will be very solid. That's enough neck sticking out for now. 8^)
