Lions tried to trade ahead of Cards for PP7

Because we already have a Brandon Harris on our team, his name is Alphonso Smith and he brings the same aspect to the game. A lot, if not all the things that are being said about Harris were once said about Smith. Smith played well for us, but as of right now, he's a strict nickle corner, we started him once on the outside against the Patriots, and we all know how that turned out. Harris, like Smith, get's beaten pretty badly in press coverage, which is the only thing Shwartz runs with our outside corners. You don't draft a player in the 1st 2 rounds that don't fit your scheme just to fill a need, that's stupid. Mayhew came into the draft with the belief that PP was the only cover corner that could be a starter on the outside from day 1 as a #1 corner. We don't need any more #2 corners, we have plenty of those, Since we couldn't get PP, and it was clear that Shwartz was not sold on either Prince or Harris, so he took the best player available, which makes the most sense. And unlike Harris, LeShoure was extremely high on Shwartz' board, and him falling as far as he did allowed for the Lions to pursue him. There is still going to be an FA period, and if CB is that big of a need, we'll address it then. And if im Shwartz, and I have as talented a group up front as we are going to have, i'd be more then content with letting you 'beat us with slants all game'. Because the 2 best way to stop quick routes is to 1, put a hand on the face of a QB, and 2, disrupt the route of the receiver. Best way to disrupt the route of the receiver is through pressing him off the line, which is the only thing Shwartz runs on the outside. Timing is the most important thing with quick routes, and when that timing is disrupted it leads to a lot of turnovers and incompletions.

Lions tried to trade ahead of Cards for PP7

idk if I personally would of never made an offer like the one we did (1,2,4), but that's cause I don't put high value on corners. But it was clear from the way the draft went down that Mayhew and Co. believed that PP was the only true starting caliber corner, and almost pulled the trigger to get him. I would of been more then content if we came outa the daft with PP. But between givin up all that for PP, and getting Fairley, Young and Leshoure... I would chose the later... Easily.

NFL's Top Players of 2011: Aaron Rodgers

This is another one of those cases where im really interested as to whom is ahead of him. I thought if nothing else, his Super Bowl performance would put him in the top 10. But game recognize game.

Lions tried to trade ahead of Cards for PP7

It's true, it was all the radio was talking about the day after the draft ended. I would of loved it if it happened, im pretty sure it ended up not falling through because Mayhew didn't want to trade future draft picks for current draft picks, and I applaud him for that... I hate it when teams do it. This is one more reason why I really like what this FO did this past draft, they had a board, they knew who they wanted where, and they knew what their dream scenario was and what their goal was in each round. They were disciplined enough to stick to it. We got 3 very good players, and 2 that could develop, outside of Hogue, I liked every move they made.

I agree, only thing that turns me ff about the sig is the black borders. Can do without IMO.

Were Bears Afraid Of Packers Trading Up For Carimi?

Highly doubt the Packers would of taken Carimi if he was their... IDK much, if anything about the Packers roster outside of the obvious stuff, but I always believed that in the NFC North, Bulaga's best fit is at RT, which would of been Carimi's best fit on any team. I could be wrong on Bulaga, but from every game i've see of him, and the Super Bowl, his best fit is RT. IMO, Sherrod was the perfect pick for the Packers if they were to go OT in the 1st cause he's the best pure pass blocker of all the tackles, and he's a perfect fit at LT. Of course I could be entirely wrong about Bulaga as well.

Mel Kiper Grades the NFC North

The whole grading thing is overrated, and don't mean anything... But I kinda feel like it's just a formality, something you have to do when the draft is over... And there is nothing else to talk about.

Mel Kiper Grades the NFC North

Write-up is in the links, didn't feel like copying the whole thing. He pretty much gave the Lions the same grade I did. Thoughts? Comments on your team's grade?

Mel Kiper Grades the NFC North

Lions have decided to use a bpa plan instead of drafting based on 'need' and imo, that's the best thing that could come out of this draft. Im feeling a lot more comfortable about not getting Prince after he dropped as far as he did, there was obviously something wrong with his game. The Lions did the best thing IMO by drafting the best player available at that point because grabbing a player that makes your strength and even bigger strentgh, especially when it's the Dline is always a plus. It got an easy A for me. Drafting Titus Young was almost the perfect compliment to CJ, a 3rd receiver is what we've been looking for, and that's what he brings, he's not gonna play slot he's gonna play outside... Burlerson played slot very well. Young was one of, if not the best deep threat receiver in the draft, getting him was another great pick. I gave it a A- And the Lions value best player available over everything else, LeShoure was a guy that was high on their board, he was one of the first visits and he should of been gone late in the 1st... Grabbing him where we grabbed him was great value, and makes the perfect compliment to our offense. I have no problem trading away our 3rd and 4th round because both players then would of been questionable, whereas with this, we get a guy who should be an instant starter. I woulda really pissed if we got Harris. I gave this an easy A. We turned 3 early picks into 3 great picks... And out last 2 were spent on players who will take time to develop but could very well pan out... I gave Hougue a B- because there were better options at LB on the board, but Culbreath has tons of upside, and that's what your looking for in a late pick. If the CB or LB position is that bad of a need, I know the Lions will address them in FA whenever that comes around.

    16 Booms, 16 Busts

Nick Failrey would have to be one of the worse DT prospects in the history of the draft to be a bust with all the talent on our Dline... Just sayin... Boom Marcell Dareus Cam Newton A.J. Green Patrick Peterson (safety) Julio Jones Nick Fairley Cameron Jordan Mark Ingram Gabe Carimi Mickel LeShoure Bust: Von Miller Aldon Smith Tyron Smith (Unless if he plays RT) Blaine Gabbert JJ Watt Anthony Castonzo James Carpenter Muhammad Wilkerson There are a lot of guys in this year's draft that I believe will be serviceable, to solid, but never anything great.

    Prince Amukamara uniform swap

This is cold. I like it from the waist up, but the waist down seems choppy. It might actually look a lot better if it was cut with the pen tool. IMO.

Bucs weren't high on Prince, likely would have passed on him if he fell

A lot of people question his ability to catch up to receivers deep because he seems to lack vertical speed to turn and run, and he showed it during the DB drills at the combine.... As well as his ball skills being really questionable. I knew there were teams that didn't like him but... This was a bit of surprise for me regardless.

49ers envision Chris Culliver as a cornerback

Honestly... I woulda kinda liked if the Lions got Culliver in a later round... He fits the bill well for a press corner, and could truly develop into a pretty solid starter with time at the CB position.

    LOL WUT?!?!?!?!?

I swear to God.... Whomever buys into this whole thing is a piece of shit, and obviously doesn't know shit about football. You know your a stupid analyst/scout when you start measuring how good a player is based on his nationality instead of his measurables, and game tape. And I hope Nnamdi Asomugha, and Christian Okoye both find whoever actually believes this crap and smack the shit outa them with their ball sacks.

    Players Top 100 List

Interested to see where the players themselves rank all the other LBs if Lance Briggs and Jon Beason are that far down.... Not necessarily that I disagree, but it should be interesting.

Vikings draft Ponder, still going after McNabb?

Highly doubt McNabb would want to come in as a one year, or limited games stop-gap as Ponder grows. If I was a Vikings fan, I'd be a lot more content with Bulger then with McNabb, although IMO adding one of these vets isn't necessary considering the fact that the Vikings have Musgrave. But Bulger would come in, not necessarily as a mentor or anything, but more as a backup. In case Ponder isn't ready to start from day 1.
