    Colts @ Chiefs

While this is the classic trap game, it's a game that the Chiefs really need to win imo. At home in week 16 with an outside shot at the 1 seed against a team they'll likely be playing again in two weeks, they'd better treat them like they did the Raiders, with one exception: the defense won't fall asleep for a quarter this time. 45 17

    Most Improved Players

Dontari Poe, for sure. The guy was the biggest weak spot on our D-line last season, and now he's the most important guy up front. There were a lot of lulz and lmaoz being thrown out there after last season, but all of that has stopped. The guy couldn't fight through a one on one, and now he's routinely standing his ground against double teams. He blows up runs every week.

    Most disappointing players of 2013

There were definitely some names on other teams that sprung to mind right away. Ray Rice, C.J. Spiller, Eli, Matt Ryan, and Mike Wallace are a few off the top of my head that I don't really have much to say about. There are a few big disappointments that I'd like to say a little bit on. Jake Locker: His talent is definitely there. He just can't seem to be able to stay on the field. It's disappointing that we might never get to actually see what this kid has to offer. I could see the Titans looking to go in a different direction now that Locker is MIA so much. Trent Richardson: Wow. Just goes to show you that the Browns are so dysfunctional that their best players—guys viewed as can't-lose by the fans—are nothing more than scrubs in the grand scheme of things, with the possible exception of Josh Gordon. Hey Cleveland: does the name Josh Cribbs ring a bell? VH-1 is doing their next episode of "Where are they now" on him (see NY Jets). Andrew Luck: He still has some impressive games and moments, and I still think he's gonna be a good QB for years to come, but without Reggie Wayne he's looked considerably less impressive. Losing one's number 1 receiver should understandably be a set-back for most QB's, but when you're the "future of the league," you should be able to figure out another way. Rodgers changes WR's like he changes shoes, as does Brady, Manning, Brees, and even Rivers and Romo. Luck doesn't get raked for this imo, due to the fact that this is only his second season, but it's still been a disappointing year. As for the Chiefs, there were only two that came to mind right away. Neither of them was Alex Smith, which is great news for any Chiefs fan. He seems to be about what I thought he'd be and maybe slightly better. The guys who are just not kicking the proverbial ass are: Eric Fisher: What a surprise. A glorified RT from the Mac who was drafted #1 overall hasn't set the NFL on fire. While I completely saw it coming, it's still uber disappointing to see the #1 overall LT of the future go up in flames so horribly. Dwayne Bowe: While I blame his lack of statistical success on the QB more than I do on Bowe himself, it's always disappointing to see a guy get top 5 money and then follow it up with the worst season of his career. He's been a much bigger part of the offensive gameplan as of late, but I'd just like to see more out of the passing game in general, and by extension, out of Bowe himself.

    OPOTY

A third round pick who only got a shot because Larry Johnson inexplicably fell off the edge of the earth is now probably going to be the OPOTY. Oh, the sweet science of NFL scouting.

Teams that NEED to draft/upgrade at QB

As to the post in general, very well done. I laughed at more than a few of your lines. I was a bit surprised that the Chiefs didn't make the "barely missed the cut" list. The jury is still out on Smith with me, but he's looking more promising than I originally anticipated. This year's playoff run will be very telling, as far as I'm concerned. You should be very, very opposed to this. All it takes is one half of a season with Cassel to go 2-14. He's terrible. He has moments where he makes a few good plays, but you'd better hope that doesn't cloud the front office's judgement concerning this guy. He's a vacuum. It starts with a TO that "wasn't really his fault." Wait, didn't he have one of those against Philly that almost let them come back and steal that game away last week? That will generally lead to him forcing a throw, which could be construed as "understandable in that situation." Then his feet start dancing in the pocket. Maybe he holds onto the ball a half a second too long, and the ball gets stripped out, but "hey, it happens." After the blowout, he's got three TO's all by his lonesome. The thing is though, they were right there. They had a chance to win that game. It was just bad luck. It happens. Then it happens again the next week. "They were in the game, man. They should have won that game walking away. If they (Cassel) can just get the turnover problem under control, they'll be fine. It's only two games." The next game, Cassel plays pretty well. The problem is, AP—while rushing for 127 yards—fumbles twice. In the fourth quarter, down by one score, Cassel does his best Tony Romo job and throws a pick, leading to the lead-extending score to seal the game. The defense played great, but you can only ask so much of them. They're starting to get annoyed with putting the offense in a position to win games only to have offense put them back in a position to lose them. On top of that, this defense that you've spent time and effort into drafting is now starting to look, on paper, like a waste of both. After a couple more games littered with TO's, dropped passes, and errant throws, the fans start turning on the team. In threads with titles like "Start studded defense underacheiving" and "Why can't we win with AP?" every avenue leads to Cassel. "It doesn't matter how good the defense is. Cassel ruins everything." "Who cares how good AP is? Cassel is just gonna fuck everything up anyway." When the sun doesn't shine as bright, it's Cassel's fault. When your coffee gets cold, it's Cassel's fault. It consumes everything and everyone around the team. Suddenly the defense isn't playing with urgency. The receivers are dogging routs. The O-line is starting to struggle, and it's all because no matter how well any of these units were playing, Matt fucking Cassel would always find a way to make their effort moot. The frustration sets in, and the season is lost. Now the front end is on the hot seat, Frazier is on his way out of town, and the fans are on a which hunt. It's all because the team decided to ride out one more year with Cassel while they put the rest of the team together—a team that is staring at the possibility of being dismantled now because Cassel sucks so hard that he's sucked everyone into a hole with him. This is the lesson that the Cheifs learned. Just something to think about.

Kevin Huber has fractured jaw, cracked vertabrae

lolChernobyle. In the article pic from your link his shoulder is buried into the punter's chest. If that's not a legal hit, then just outlaw hitting. If punters don't want to get hit hard, then they should probably pay attention when casually strolling across the field during a play. Oochy, you're right, Just because a flag isn't thrown doesn't make it "legal. There's a flip side to that coin though. Just because the guy got wrecked doesn't mean it's an illegal hit. If I skip into bear infested woods all willie nillie with no weapons or awareness... You see where I'm going with this.

Kevin Huber has fractured jaw, cracked vertabrae

We're always talking about how Goodell is ruining the game with the Pussification of the NFL, but when someone gets crushed with a legal hit it's a God damned travesty. Make up your minds guys. *DISCLAIMER* This is obviously not directed at those of you who don't have a problem with it.
  9. For once, I get in on one of these great threads before everyone and their significant ( :ghey: ) other has already listed everyone I would. OooOoOoooOo... Kid in a candy store... Well, since I got to see some of Favre's list, I'd like to say a few things on a few of those guys. 1. Barry was the true embodiment of lightning in a bottle. He's the only player who could lose yards on 27 yard runs and it be ok that I've ever seen. He did things that a GM or HC would get fired for allowing their RB to do if it were ANYONE other than Barry Sanders. The guy was amazing. Thanksgiving has a big hole in it, and it's going to for the rest of my life. The guy was that good. Older fellas talk about how great Jim Brown was, And I understand why, but for my money I can't imagine any one single player being more exciting to watch tote the rock than Barry fucking Sanders. On the seventh day, God rested, and on the eighth day he got to work again, mapping out blueprints for the phenomenon that would one day be Barry Sanders. 2. MJ was another one of those guys who you knew when you were watching him that you were watching the guy everyone would aspire to be from then on out. When he got the ball in his hands, it was, at times, like time slowed down. He was one of those players that, if no one on the court wore numbers or names on their jerseys and they had helmets on, you'd still be able to pick him out, even when he didn't have the ball. Kobe is truly the closest thing to Jordan-espue that we've seen since, and he ain't really all that close. After awhile, you weren't even intrigued to see what he was gonna do next because you already knew: he was going to win. Those are my two of my favorite players in the history of their respective sports, so I had to comment. Sorry if it came off long-winded, but I loved watching them both. Even as a kid, I knew and appreciated the fact that I was watching greatness. Now for my list... Fran Tarkenton: I've seen highlights of this guy, and from what I've seen it was like watching the Eli Manning Super Bowl pass to David Tyree—minus the helmet catch—every Sunday. He would run 30 yards the wrong way, break 4 or 5 tackles, and complete a pass 40 yards down the field. Before Dan Marino broke all the passing records that Brett Favre eventually broke, Fran was the guy that had just about every single one. Oh, and he did it in a league where the forward pass was innovative to everyone else. Deacon Jones: In know some of you have heard the story about when I met this guy, so I'll spare you from my memory lane again lol. The guy was an absolute animal, and he created his own stat. It's now the biggest defensive facet of the game, and before Deacon it was never even recorded. On top of that, he got a legit technique outlawed because he was just too vicious with it. I'd love to see him crumble some grown men by slapping them in their heads on Sundays. O.J. Simpson: Murderer or not, as far as I can tell, he was probably the best RB of his era. He just played for, as Matty would say, a dog shit team. He was the only guy to go for 2,000 yards for a very long time, and since then, in an offense driven league, only a handful of guys have done it to this day. Rather than take a bunch of other people's guys, I'm going to leave it there for now and just wait to comment on some of theirs. I'll close with two more: 1. George Brett: He was chasing .400 in the strike shortened season, and I was really into Albert Belle at the time. Still, I followed Brett that year obviously, but in a land without interwebz and global coverage, I got Indians games. That was pretty much it. The guy that many consider a top 5 hitter all time, Brett is the best player to ever play baseball for the only baseball team I care about, and I can't even recall an at bat... The 1985 Kansas City Royals/1969 Kansas City Chiefs: Most of us around here have a team that we root for who won a Super Bowl before we were alive, so the Chiefs are just one of those obligatory things. The Royals, however, I was alive for. I was not yet 4 years old, and the Royals won the World Fucking SERIES!!! And have not made the playoffs since. I'm so intent on the Royals being good. Everyone here knows that, and this is why. It's happened in my "lifetime," but it's GOT to happen in my LIFETIME! PLEASE, GOD, THROW MY A BONE HERE!!!

    Are 11-6 Chiefs for real?

The offense is going bananas right now, and that was the big question mark for everyone. Now that they look more like the Broncos than the Chiefs, how's everyone feeling about this team? They're scoring more points every week for the last two weeks, and they're blowing teams out. The put both teams away by halftime the last two weeks, and when they inexplicably got complacent and let the Raiders score 21 unanswered, they get their shit together and balled out with 21 unanswered of their own to close out the game with the starters pretty much sitting out most of the fourth quarter. The defense, while they did have a momentary lapse against Oakland, is forcing TO's and getting pressure again. If this is the real Chiefs—if this is the team clicking on all cylinders—and they win their last two games against the Colts and Chargers in SD, are they legit SB contenders in the AFC in your eyes? What say you, TGP?
  11. do you really fail to see the irony in your post? You're saying that the family shouldn't be responsible for paying for the crime that a judge ruled the family is responsible for in the first place. Ifit is the family's privilege and money that made this crime happen in the first place, then why shouldn't they pay with their privilege and money? Are you saying that nobody should have to pay for the deaths and suffering of these people? Personally I think that the whole scenario is crap but it is what it is at this point. The rich have their own rules, and it is disgusting, but under those rules someone needs to shell out some serious bucks.

Mack Brown Sabotages UT (MUST READ)

How many of these "classy" coaches do you think are truly classy though? People seem to get success confused with class these days. Just because a guy wins a bunch of games doesn't mean that you would want him to come over for dinner. The "Ol' Ball Coach," Nick Saban, Mack Brown, etc, don't strike me as class acts. Yet all you hear is how worthy they are of a seat at the foot of Christ.

Sheldon Richardson says he'd go 1st overall in a draft re-do

No way he goes first overall. Have you guys even been paying attention this season? Eric Fisher has revolutionized the right tackle position. He's changing the way the game is played from the second most important offensive tackle spot on the field guys. Seriously. Get a grip. The Chiefs made the right call, call, call, call... *echoes while shit gets waivey, awakens in bed* Shit it was just a dream? Fisher still sucks, you say? Worst #1 overall in the history of the game, you say? FUCK!

    Rank the Superbowl Contenders

I understand why no one is very high on the Chiefs, so this isn't a "what are you guys thinking" post. Someone has to make a case for them though, so might as well be the fan. Sooooooo... AFC- Honestly, I think the AFC is as up for grabs as it's ever been. Every team has a flaw, and every team has looked very good at times. I wouldn't be surprised with any outcome, accepting the Colts I guess. I don't like the team as well as the others. After they lost Wayne, they just haven't seemed like the same team. Therefor, in no particular order... : Obviously, the #1 seed gets consideration. :Patriots: : Bill and Brady. : This is the best Bengals team since the '80's. If good Andy makes an extended stay, it could mean trouble for everyone else. : If that defense is back taking risks and hitting QB's and that offense is officially clicking like it seems that they are, they can beat anyone. ANYONE. Close losses to the Broncos doesn't make me think that they CAN'T beat them. Only that they haven't. Playoff football is all about defense and running game, both of which the Chiefs have proven to have. NFC- Obvious favorite is, well, obvious. In order of likelihood. : I'm not even going to explain this one. They're as tough as anyone when they're hot. I don't think they can win in Seattle, but anything is possible. They aren't turning the ball over, and last I checked they have the best RB in the playoffs in the NFC as of right now. Chip and Foles is proving to be the unforeseen diamond in the rough of the 2013 NFL season. I can't count them out.

    Texans Fire Kubiak

Unlikely he's the same way as a coach as he is as a commentator. As a commentator attempting to get back into coaching, being super negative isn't exactly the way to go. but he WAS that way as a coach. I'm sure you don't remember, but he carried 5 qb's on the roster in Tampa. None of them were any good, but he loved them all.
  17. AL_Royalty

    Texans Fire Kubiak

To those that are STILL riding the Gruden train, he is without a doubt the worst choice for HC in the case of the Texans. He'd get there and immediately start defending every QB on the roster. "LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THIS SCHAUB GUY! HE'S A REAL SCRAPPY GUY WHO MAKES ALL THE THROWS! IF HE CAN LIMIT THE PICK SIXES, WATCH OUT FOR THIS GUY! HE'S DEFINITELY A STARTER IN THIS LEAGUE!" "WHAT CAN I SAY ABOUT THIS CASE KEENUM KID?!?!? HE'S YOUNG, DETERMINED, AND EXTREMELY TALENTED! I'VE SEEN THIS KID MAKE THROWS THAT JUST LEAVE ME SPEECHLESS! HE REMINDS ME OF A YOUNG BRETT FAVRE WITH THE WAY HE CAN EXTEND PLAYS!" "T.J. YATES IS A DETERMINED QB WITH PLAYOFF EXPERIENCE! HE'S EVEN GOT A PLAYOFF WIN UNDER HIS BELT! HE'S EXTREMELY PATIENT—FROM THE POCKET AND THE BENCH, AND HE DOESN'T TAKE UNNECESSARY RISKS! THIS GUY CAN DEFINITELY MAKE AN IMPACT IN THE NFL!" Then, just to cover every base, he goes out and signs Jay Cutler after drafting Johnny Manziel with the first overall pick. lolGruden.

No Tailgating At The Super Bowl

A buddy and I were supposed to go up to Detroit for the Super Bowl the year that the Steelers won over the Seahawks. It was a no go because I got arrested a week before the game, but we didn't have a ticket. We were just gonna go up there, park somewhere near the stadium, and kick it with some locals in the lot. We knew we weren't going to be able to get into the game, but it would have been cool to say that we were "there" anyway. It sounds like that is no longer an option for anyone, which is really lame. If you don't have an extra 1,000 dollars laying around AND hit the super bowl ticket lottery just to be allowed to purchase one for face value, then fuck you. You have a tv. Stay the fuck away from the game. No sir, I don't like it.

Ohio State is new #2. Thoughts?

After Saturday's BCS shakeups, there was a lot of HURP DERP DURP and HOO-BAH-DEE-BLAH in the shoutbox the other night about who would be ranked where and who should play for what. Most of the sentiment was that THE Ohio State would not and should not be playing for a national championship. As it stands right now, they have a better than good chance of doing just that. As it stands, they are ranked #2 in the BCS, Harris, and USA Today polls. It's a clean sweep, which tells me that as long as they win against Michigan State in the Big Ten Title Game, it's all but settled that they're going to be playing against Florida State—who still has to play the ACC juggernaut Duke, lol—in the National Championship game. So, like it or not, it's starting to look like a win-and-in scenario for the Buckeyes. With everyone else who was in the running racking up at least one loss, this seems completely logical to me. Ohio State was ranked 3 or 4 all season long, so it's not like they had to leap-frog anyone ahead of them to get where they are. They were already elevated, and they took care of business, albeit not in the same fashion that FSU pummeled their weak sauce schedule. No matter who wins the SEC championship, if tOSU and FSU win their respective conference championships, it's looking like the SEC's reign of 7 consecutive titles is coming to an end. I just don't see how a one loss Auburn or Mizzou jumps Ohio State if the Buckeyes win out. So the question in there is this: If you were the only one who's opinion mattered—if your choice was the end-all be-all in the final say for who plays in the NCG—who ya got in the game, and why? It's always fun to read the incredible amount of mud-slinging that this topic always undoubtedly spawns, so let's hear why tOSU is gonna get creamed, or how the SEC is a conference of super God teams and should play for everything ever, or how the BCS is a joke, or whatever it may be.

    What Car Do You Drive?

2008 Mustang. Great car. Gonna tweak it up this spring/summer, too. My first car was a 1993 Ford Escort, and since then they've just gotten older. This thing is 15 years newer than the newest car I'd ever owned. lol. I am loving driving again.

Ohio State is new #2. Thoughts?

I saw the comments above and understand that the quote originated in a significantly different scenario, but I do find it interesting and worth pointing out that his 1-loss SEC team shellacked an undefeated Ohio State team in that year's title game I saw the comments above and understand that the quote originated in a significantly different scenario, but I do find it interesting and worth pointing out that his 1-loss SEC team shellacked an undefeated Ohio State team in that year's title game ... But you don't find it interesting that he is coaching the team that he shellacked in that year's title game? Is he just a super lucky guy who falls into insanely opportunistic situations in every job he lands? Luckiest guy ever? Speaking of which, does anyone think that maybe, just possibly, in some small way, Urban having coached an SEC team to multiple titles might prove to be beneficial in the "Fraud Bowl?" No one thinks that having a coach who's won championships might prove beneficial to the Buckeyes?

Which NFC QB needs a playoff berth the most?

Well, through process of elimination I came up with Cutler. Romo is a choke, but he's already been given a big money extension. Kaep made the SB, so he's good to go. Palmer can make the playoffs all he wants at this point, and it's not going to change a thing. Foles has time to grow and make future playoff runs. Stafford is fucking rich, and on top of that he's already probably the best Lions QB ever. I have no idea how Rodgers even made this thread, being that most people consider him the best QB in the league right now plus he's paid. What that leaves us with is shitty, small contract signing, porcelain bone structure having, under bus throwing Jay Cutler. At this point, his teammates have to be tired of him blaming everyone else for his problems and underachieving with a pretty talented roster. He's trying to get paid by someone, even if it's not the Bears, but missing out on the playoffs after such a strong start and then being outplayed by McCown is probably going to be a nail in the Cutler coffin. lolJay.

Ohio State is new #2. Thoughts?

If it's not even meant in the way that you're using it, meaning that you've taken it out of context, how the hell does it ring true? If he's talking about a one loss team vs. a one loss team, you're just playing Bill O'Reilly. Way to put your own spin on something that has nothing to do with your argument. A current affair wants their anchor back. I wasn't saying that the first 12 games should be factored into the voting. I was saying that it plays a factor in their current ranking, which it clearly does. You've admitted as much. Do you think that if the Buckeyes went 6-6 last season they would have been ranked #2 to start the year based on what was expected of them this season? if you respond to that with anything other than a flat out "no" you're just being a Add to that the fact that their 12-0 THIS season to keep their ranking as high as it is while everyone in front of them FUCKING LOST, and you get tOSU playing in the NCG with FSU. Who knows if they'll bet blown out or not (well apparently you and everyone else does. Start gambling heavily if you can see the future.) . Hell, they still have to beat Michigan State. If they do that though, they deserve the chance to get blown out, because they earned it. You really believe that a team who was ranked #2 in the country and won every game that they played while all but one team ranked ahead of them has lost doesn't deserve a chance to face their accusers? An undefeated team WON themselves out of their ranking Is what you're saying, and it makes no sense when everyone else LOST their way out of theirs. EDIT: Almost forgot. HERP-DURP-DURPITTY-DURP!

Ohio State is new #2. Thoughts?

BJORN, Ricky, and Blots: The computer that I'm on still won't let me quote or paste. First to BJORN: My point isn't that Auburn isn't good because they won those close games. My point is that they're not this God team that everyone Is suddenly making them out to be. They're just as vulnerable as OSU is, and they're also just as tough, but they have one loss, so if OSU wins out they're in. Makes perfect sense to me. Also, you can't really judge who gets into the NCG off of what COULD happen IF team "A" WOULD have played in a different conference. Reason being: you and I and everyone else really have no idea what WOULD happen. If Batman would have had to face all those super villains without his gadgets, it would have been a much shorter comic series. All we know is what did happen, and that is Auburn running through an SEC that has no defense currently, outside of LSU who still isn't playing "LSU defense" this season, and did it in dramatic fashion. OSU did the same thing in a conference that is pretty offensively challenged right now. Next up is BLOTS: That's kinda my point. I've never said that OSU's defense is good. It's easily the weakest link on the team, but they can score with anyone, especially with the SEC teams. I have a GREAT deal of respect for what Mizzou has done this season, and just so you know, I watched Maty Mauk play in the state high school championship game here in Ohio in person. Being a Chiefs fan born in KC, MO, I always keep an eye on the Tigers and root for them every year. The fact that they give up a little bit less PPG than OSU doesn't make their defense good though. It just means that they played a little better at times, imo. Finally, RICKY: Last season has everything to do with this current scenario, and it's certainly more pertinent than any what-if and would-have speculations. Where do you think they come up with preseason rankings? That's the main thing that has OSU ranked as high as they are: where they were LAST SEASON. If their preseason ranking wouldn't have been so high, we wouldn't even be having this conversation right now. When Boise State was briefly in the NC conversation, it wasn't because they went undefeated for one season. it was because they they won for years and finally taken seriously. What happened last year has an EXTREME effect on this season's rankings. There's no way to argue otherwise, but you're right about one thing: retarded argument is retarded. Derp. I don't really care if you hate the Buckeyes or think them unworthy, but don't let that force you to say nonsensical shit like this. Side note: It's not the "school's fault" that they had sanctions, btw. It was the fault of a handful of players basically making a Plato's Closet type transaction. I guess players shouldn't sell to thrift stores, either. it breaks NCAA rules. lol.

Ohio State is new #2. Thoughts?

How do they not deserve to go? Is it because of that horrible loss that they had in week... Oh, wait. Maybe it's because they their lame duck offense could never hang against the juggernaut defense of... Who, exactly? Is it because they were unjustly propelled up the standings over other undefeated teams? Nope, that isn't the case either. It's easy to say, "Oh, they don't deserve to be there. Everyone knows that HURP DURP DERP LULZ!" especially when you give nothing to back that up. I usually like seeing what you have to say about a topic, even if I don't agree with it, but this is a clown post bro (thanks Bryce Harper.) Bottom line is they made it through sanctions and still had an undefeated season. Then, when the games counted for something, they didn't fold up the tent and show their asses. They took care of business. They've won 24 straight games, the only team in the country to do so at this point if I'm not mistaken. If they make it 25 against the nations toughest defense in the Big Ten championship game, they most certainly deserve to be there. If Florida State does, so does tOSU. Let's not forget that the BCS standings do NOT take into account margin of victory, so since both have played bad teams but beat them all, they get in. The Buckeyes even dropped out of the #2 spot and hung tough, week in and week out, until all but one team in front of them lost their way out of the NCG. Bottom line is that winning by 1 is better than losing by any amount of points. Besides, let's not act like Auburn is this unbeatable super team. They are one freak tipped last second hail Mary and one missed Field goal away from being a three loss team and completely out of the conversation. Mizzou, while putting together one hell of a surprising season, has routinely let teams score on them. I really like the Tigers, but they aren't a team that I would say is head and shoulders above Ohio State. Saying that you think they'll get beat up in the NCG would be one thing, but saying that they don't deserve to be there is another entirely. As far as I can see, they most certainly do.
